Feeling nostalgic I decided to write a list of my favourite TV programmes from my childhood. I'm sure I've missed loads of the ones I used to watch. But here's what I remember, in case anyone's interested. 😊

In no particular order.

Champion the Wonder Horse
Flipper
Casey Jones
Daktari
Blue Peter
Crackerjack
Vision On
Ask the Family
Top of the Pops
Top of the Form
Jukebox Jury
Robinson Crusoe
The Flashing Blade
The White Horses
Belle and Sébastien
Follyfoot
The Little House on the Prairie
Top Cat
Scooby Doo

Nobody mentioned The Man from UNCLE? And The Girl from UNCLE?
The Avengers with Honor Blackman, then Diana Rigg, before it got silly.(sillier).
Children of the Stones, that was creepy.

Ooh yes, I loved the Man from Uncle! Used to think David Mcallum was lovely! 👍

No, I'm a bit older than that! Born in 1958. Omg, I'm old 😱 😂

I remember watching Belle and Sebastian when I was 7 because I remember speaking to my mum about it when I went to visit my new born sister in hospital.

So were you 15 you watched it or did I watch a repeat?

I was born 1959 so we share a lot of likes. I loved children's TV. My very favourite was White Horses. I have the theme saved on my Spotify Favourites. I was gutted when on a cruise that stopped in Slovenia that I didn't realise I could have done a trip to see the horses.

As a teenager I loved Budgie. I wanted to be Adam Faith's girlfriend.

Oh I’ve just fallen in love with Clarence again, reconciliation after 55 years. He was so lush.

Just remembered another crush: Alias Smith and Jones, both of them.

Oh gosh, I loved Alias Smith and Jones. I was so upset when Pete Duel died. I had convinced myself that I would go to America and meet him and he would marry me as soon as I was old enough! Oh dear! 🤣

I still think of him every year on his birthday. He would have been 86 now.

And does anyone remember the slightly odd things that used to come out at Christmas? Like The Box of Delights?

Cerbonny · 15/06/2026 20:16

@ThunderThunderThunderThunderCats I'm guessing you're probably of my children's generation, born in the 1970s or early 80s? A lot of your list were my kids' favourites.

I forgot about Grotbags! We had the loveliest lollipop lady by our school and all the kids used to affectionately call her Grotbags as she was a similar build and had curly hair in the same sort of style, but of course, being kids, we were convinced that we were being so subtle about it. One day she came in wearing the costume under her white coat, stripy tights and a bright green wig; we all loved it so much, she crossed so many delighted kids that day.

Ooh yes, I watched the Box of Delights with DS when he was little. Well, to tell you the truth, I was watching it and he was not the slightest bit interested and was just playing with his Lego! 😂

This thread has brought back a memory id forgotten about until now🙊

My first rude dream ever was Nicholas Ball in Hazell

I loved Porridge, Rising Damp and the Liver Birds

I loved the 7 Up documentaries and believe another is coming up soon.

Serious programmes were the Naked Civil Servant, and I Claudious, which was brutal for its time

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/06/2026 20:26

Byker Grove. I was a member of the fan club and used to get the Grove Gossip newsletter and everything. Knightmare, me and my mates applied to go on SO many times 😱

@MyFavouritePlace good shout about Robinson Crusoe theme tune.

What a lovely thread! Going dewey-eyed over all the 1970s stuff! Love all those suggestions… Daktari! Loved Clarence!

The RC theme was great, but surely the best one was Flashing Blade!

Apart from the kids shows, DB and I loved Tales of the Unexpected, Starsky and Hutch, The Goodies, Petrocelli, The Water Margin, Monkey, The Incredible Hulk and the Six Million Dollar Man

WilfredsPies · 15/06/2026 20:30

No, I watched it when it was first shown, in 1967. I was 9 then.
