I don't actually worry about being accused of racism for one very good reason
I'm not

I don’t care either, as it happens.

It’s advice for those who do.

LizzieSiddal · Yesterday 10:11

Hoppinggreen · Yesterday 10:07

I would characterise the majority of them as mentally ill/bored/racist/violent thugs who don't care about the victim or family

Agree you only have to watch videos of any riots to see what kind of people they are. If football hooliganism was still a thing they’d be right there.

The DM aren’t even reporting it yet. Expect they’re waiting for Nigel.

Happyjoe · Yesterday 10:14

This is why people video and share though, as much as I hate it. It’s the ONLY way the media seem to be held to account to saying what really happened.

The police have asked people not to share the video have they not? I don't think it's all a conspiracy theory.

SpudGunToo · Yesterday 10:15

TheWineoftheChicken · Yesterday 09:04

You’re complaining that no one knows that really happened but you won’t tell us what really happened?

It seems that someone was trying to cut off a man’s head while kneeling on top of him.

He appears to be a black man in his twenties and was bonding up the knife and shouting in what I think is neither English nor Gaelic.

I wish I had not seen that.

99.9% of nasty bastards I have encountered in my life are white men. Where should we deport those guys to?

QforCucumber · Yesterday 10:16

ForeverPombear · Yesterday 10:00

I agree with everything you say apart from my only concern with not censoring somethings is where it comes to court cases and the right to a fair trial. Imagine if it were shared around the country all over social media and his lawyers managed to argue that he didn't get a fair trial because of that. I'm not sure what the answer is though because if that video wasn't out it would just be seen as a stabbing rather than beheading.

It is a difficult situation I agree, I don't know how you can choose a jury who aren't influenced though, but that's becoming more prevalent in day to day life anyway even without videos circulating.

Wishing14 · Yesterday 10:16

@Happyjoethe point I am trying to make is that as awful as social media is, from a public perspective it’s the only way we see the truth. I won’t be watching the video and the thought of it makes me feel horrendous.

RollOnSunshine · Yesterday 10:17

But but diversity is our strength.
You are racist if you disagree
etc etc

DrBlackbird · Yesterday 10:17

CoffeeAndACroissant · Yesterday 09:44

I, for one, am glad we have at least one sensible media organisation in this country that recognises that it has a duty to report on crimes in a manner that would not impede any future trials.

The perpetrator could claim they have not been given an opportunity for a fair trial if too many details of the case are released.

That is why you normally only find out the full details of crimes after sentencing, even though the media usually have it all.

There's no conspiracy here. There are plenty of people with a lack of understanding of our justice system though.

I don’t care if this is a derail… this is the bigger story and ⬆️ needs repeating.

Like all organisations, the BBC is not perfect and individuals within the organisation desire to advance particular narratives, but it is almost the only media company in the ‘West’ that is not owned by billionaires. It is by law required to remain neutral and is independent of government. This is a constant battle to maintain but there are laws in place to help do so.

We must not allow Musk, an American billionaire, to make us lose confidence in it or bow to efforts to stop its public funding status like Trump has done to highly regarded outlets in the US.

Look what’s happening there. The once highly respected Washington Post bought by Bezos. TikTok being sold to an investor consortium that includes Oracle, the tech company of pro-Trump billionaire Larry Ellison. In fact, CBS, CNN, HBO, Paramount, and Discovery is coming under control of Larry Ellison. CBS and CNN were once independent news sources that were critical of the current administration. On top of how the influential Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch and has already swayed elections in that country.

One consequence is that CBS News fired its longtime 60 Minutes anchor Scott Pelley since it came under new leadership. David Ellison (Larry’s son), an ally of US President Donald Trump, bought CBS's parent company, Paramount. A new CBS News chief subsequently fired staff, including its longtime executive producer, and installed a new editor with no broadcast news experience despite that 60 Minutes has been the US's longest-running and highest-rated news programme.

All of the more independent US news organisations are being bought and/or run by Trump supporting billionaires. It is all very worrying. Please appreciate that we are LUCKY to have the BBC. Do not be tempted to throw out the baby with the bath water.

Edited to add: as awful as social media is, from a public perspective it’s the only way we see the truth this claim is not true. Social media is even more prone to distortion and misinformation as it is entirely unregulated. Anyone can post almost anything. From anywhere in the world including bot farms in the Philippines or from Russia or North Korea. This is a well studied phenomenon.

Silly Argument.

We can’t deport British nationals but we
can control if we keep foreign criminals.

That’s not racism.

Wishing14 · Yesterday 10:13

@LizzieSiddal”what kind of people they are”. That says a whole lot about what kind of person you are.

Apologies I should have also included factual information about my assumptions.

Here you go…

A quarter of those arrested in the Southport riots had convictions for domestic violence. Also a quarter of those arrested have since been arrested again for other violent acts.

They are thugs.

Oooeeh · Yesterday 10:18

We have 3 asylum seeker hotels within 5 miles of us. None of these people (men) are tracked or vetted. It’s come to light recently that they are also given access to a local gym, where many women and children attend. We have no clue who they are yet they’re left to roam the streets. Our high streets are suffering from the highest level of crime we have ever seen.

call me a right extremist. Whatever you want. But it’s dangerous. I do not understand why these people are not kept under conditions until it is proved who they are.

this is not an isolated case. I have absolutely no problem with people coming to this country to better themselves. It’s not working.

I suppose that when photos and videos of demonstrators come out we will be able to come to our own conclusions about them.

Or at least the ones who's likenesses were videoed, photographed, edited and published.

That literally is conspiracy theory stuff.

Police and families often ask people not to speculate, riot and share content. The police because they want to do their job, the family it is out of respect.

Savvysix1984 · Yesterday 10:21

What a disgusting thing to say. Who are the IRA supporters who are happy kids are being killed?

If it wasn’t for Elon Musk people would be a lot less aggressive.

Blaming wealthy white men for other people’s crimes is not useful.
