I suppose my issue is that it's only certain 'crimes like this' that seem to enrage people and have them talking about riots. Where was that same energy for this attempted beheading? Why weren't people angry then?

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crmpejxlm7do

We’re enraged because we have enough violent men.
We have no need to import more.

Not because we think “white” or “British men” don’t have the capacity for violence.

Northernladdette · 09/06/2026 12:53

Mountainsandhuts · 09/06/2026 12:25

It is on the front page of the BBC news website, the picture is a screenshot from the video and without clicking into it It says 'brutal' knife attack and that the attacker is Somali. It's obviously horrific, that goes without saying, but it's also being covered in the media.

Tbf, there was barely anything earlier in the day.

NameChangeMay2026 · 09/06/2026 12:53

I'm not going to watch the video. It sounds horrific, and the police have called on the public not to watch or share it, as “doing so risks causing further trauma to the injured man’s loved ones and may impact the ongoing investigation.”

I wouldn't want to watch it anyway. Who wants to watch something like that?!

Apparently the attacker was shouting religious words, so I suspect it was just another total nutter.

No not just another total nutter. Why would religious words mean that?

More likely someone standing watching and filming instead of helping. The video should not have been shared, the sharer has not considered the victim, his family or friends who will be visually reminded of the attack. People sharing videos like this are as bad as the attacker in my eyes. There is no need for such a video to be made public, it should have been provided to the police only, then deleted in front of the police including the deleted folder

May be the person behind the camera has lost faith in the police and government to deal with it and doesn’t want to have to read a BBC article about how a welsh choir boy stabbed a man on his street and then get called ‘far right’ for objecting,

BeamFloorDoor · 09/06/2026 12:56

Monty36 · 09/06/2026 11:50

Except they did. They took money from ordinary shopkeepers, pubs, you name it ‘for protection’ and terrorised them and plenty more when it wasn’t forthcoming. They most certainly did subject ordinary people to violence.

There are plenty of others.. The IRA bombed ordinary people.
Please don’t persuade yourself that his violence did not happen.

I would be interested to see your sources for the Krays and the Richardsons attempting to behead victims unknown to them in the street.

They were convicted of the murder of two gangland associates, with the suspicion that they murdered several more but basically other gangsters.

There is no suggestion they murdered the shopkeepers etc. on whom they visited the protection racket, much less openly murdered them by attempted beheading in the street.

You are begging the question by suggesting that I am arguing "violence didn't happen". I have said that this is of a different character and you have not successfully refuted that.

Wow! The BBC in all its glory! This aligns with their agenda. They won't spare any "far right" smear. Not that their reporting on this correct but even if it was this is extremely rare and if it doesn't excuse importing foreign murderers and ideologies that are contrary to the country's own or in its best interest.

Why aren’t you angry that a man had his eyes stabbed out and was the victim of an attempted beheading while minding his own business walking down a street in Belfast?

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 09/06/2026 12:57

EasternStandard · 09/06/2026 12:30

That’s not true. Crimes along these lines are more common place elsewhere.

And where they are, you can hardly call the societies stable or healthy, and the people who do this kind of thing mentally stable or healthy.

Sunglade · 09/06/2026 12:57

Maggispice · 09/06/2026 12:51

There're no jobs. We don't need more immigration. I immigrated here legally from Africa over 20yrs ago. We must speak truthfully without bias. It needs to stop now.

We need more migration to keep house prices unnaturally inflated in order to keep a few people very rich. This is the main reason it's allowed.

With this description are you keen to enable their arrival here?

No.
We’re saying that culture and indoctrination can impact people where mental health isn’t an issue.

You're refusing to engage with the conversation, which is your prerogative, but don’t pretend you don’t follow the discourse.

Go figure. Being told off for something I haven't joined in with and my original comment hijacked! Don't you just love MN?!

Ablondiebutagoody · 09/06/2026 09:16

But what are the other pieces of information they are trying to hide?

It’s absolutely horrifying but quite why anyone wants to encourage the circulation of the video I don’t know. Let’s hope this man recovers, but then he and his family have to live forever knowing that ghouls are sharing the video of the worst thing that happened to him.

It’s well known that Rudebekana and the Abedi brothers and others watched endless streams of this kind of violence and that it contributed to their own actions. And here are you and @MelanzaneParmigiana trying to get people to watch it and amplify it even more. Blood on your hands.

Northernladdette · 09/06/2026 12:53

It happened last night. It was all over the place but the BBC didn't report it to late this morning.

Cailleach1 · 09/06/2026 13:00

DontBuyAnotherBook · 09/06/2026 10:01

No I am not but it is mainly the IRA supporters on social media who are happy kids were killed.

You say you’ve seen social media posts by people saying they are happy that children were killed.

Is there any source for that?

BornToBeWokeFree · 09/06/2026 13:00

Listen people, when they come over they could be doctors or engineers which are so, so needed. Or he could be a lovely carer to wipe your mum's backside which again, so, so needed. Unfortunately this one was a knife wielding decapitator and now you are going to have to pay for him for life - unless he gets the same judge and jury as the Manchester airport violent attackers.

BridgetJonesV2 · 09/06/2026 13:01

Absolutely horrifying.

Import the third world, become the third world.

Isn't migration wonderful...

They’re probably more upset it’s happened at all.

Look at the Nottingham press conference, there’s so much pressure to underplay failings that the parents and families have to speak out bluntly.

Still people override it.

I presume you are a Reform party recruiter? I only ask because it is exactly posts like this in response to a violent attack, rather than concern about the attack, that encourages people to vote reform.

Surely anyone shouting religious words while committing abhorrent violence is a nutter? No God in that is there.

You stated

“Do you realise it's hard to radicalise someone with a sound mind?”

We countered.

You avoided further discussion by pretending not to understand the conversation.

If you really are struggling to understand simple disagreements with your arguments, then you’re right in thinking Mumsnet might not be a good fit for you.

I think we've had enough of immigration, let's face it.

Edited

Absolutely! I agree! I'm an immigrant. I migrated LEGALLY over 20yrs ago. There're no jobs in the UK. The NHS, renting, house prices etc all negatively affected by huge demand and lack of supply. Govt needs to face the citizens first.
