I need something "feel good" or uplifting to watch.

My mood has dropped spectacularly, my cup is empty. I am tearful, irritable. I would love to watch something that is light, funny, uplifting, anything really. Say I am drawn to misery and doom which doesnt help I dont think.

Please suggest something.

ITV player has added all series of “The Middle”. I enjoyed it when I had anxiety because it’s uplifting, lighthearted, funny but with a deeper meaning about the ups and downs of life

SpareVanKeys · 07/06/2026 08:22

Only to listen to, but Cabin Pressure is so funny

Ted Lasso
Shrinking

Modern Family ( Disney) sometimes in Ch5 I think cheers me up.

im also a sad devotee of National Lampoon movies.

Superstore

Sheldon

HoraceCope · 08/06/2026 05:03

i have eventually just watched The Fundamentals of Caring
on Netflix
well regarded here when you do a search

Ponderingwindow · 08/06/2026 05:18

Ted lasso and schitts creek are my go to for people learning and growing

parks and recreation for acceptance of every quirky personality and general comfort.

for something new, I am loving Rivals. Not my normal thing but it is delightfully campy and the soundtrack is so nostalgic.

an under the radar movie that always makes me smile: Stick it. It’s about a gymnast who doesn’t really want to be a gymnast anymore and how a group of teenage girls decide to fight the system in their own way.

another movie: acceptance
its about a guy who accidentally creates a university. Emphasis on the power of independent learning.

Fisherman's Friend. It is sort of based on a true story.

Pride - again based on true story, it does have a couple of not uplifting bits but overall it is a feel good film.

Father Ted always makes me laugh, I could probably recite it, but I still laugh.

A bit of a left field suggestion but the 'Junior Masterchef USA' I find it so uplifting when 8 year olds are cooking food that could be (and sometimes is) served in a restaurant.

Kath and Kim! One of my favourites, ever.

I second The Other Bennett Sister on BBC1. It's so soothing and lovely.
I also find myself watching Gone Fishing when i'm feeling a bit down; it's gentle with a few fun bits and showcases the landscapes of the British Isles. Very little to do with fishing and more about everything else.
I hope you feel brighter soon ✨️ x

Despite many mentions here, I wouldn't recommend Small Prophets at all. I found it dreary and depressing! Most definitely not uplifting.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 08/06/2026 17:03

Ted lasso. Rivals.

wheresthesnowgone · 08/06/2026 17:11

Whatever you do don't waste any time on Dutton Ranch. It's beyond awful. Everybody is miserable and verbally abusive to each other, if they're not shooting at them. The story pings around without any explanations of who is where or why or what they are doing there. Utterly baffling and pointless.

Miranda65 · 08/06/2026 17:11

Schitts Creek, now on the iplayer.
Rivals, if you have Disney.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 08/06/2026 17:17

Agree with most of those recommendations! Ted Lasso is brilliant and I say that as someone who has no interest in football at all however I do have a big interest in Brett Goldstein

Speaking of Brett Goldstein, a daft romcom Office Romance on Netflix starring him and JLo had me laughing out loud yesterday. It’s a bit risqué so not one to watch with kids in the house, but definitely helped to while away a couple of hours with escapist light entertainment.

EmmaOvary · 08/06/2026 17:19

Small Prophets

Piglet89 · 08/06/2026 17:23

Fisk on Netflix.

Rivals or The Princess Bride - or both

Remarkably bright creatures, on Netflix. Book was fab!

GalaDinner · 08/06/2026 17:36

I strongly recommend Seaside Hotel (Badehotellet) on catch up on channel 4. Set in the 1920s onwards, it's about the wealthy families who go to the same seaside hotel each summer, and the staff who serve them. Light, elegant comedy drama with beautiful costumes and hats in a beautiful setting. It's in Danish with subtitles, but do not let that put you off, it's easy viewing.

There are ten series to go at, and it's the perfect time of year to watch it. Life affirming, and Denmark's favourite tv show. 😊
