My mood has dropped spectacularly, my cup is empty. I am tearful, irritable. I would love to watch something that is light, funny, uplifting, anything really. Say I am drawn to misery and doom which doesnt help I dont think.

Please suggest something.

Yes you’re right, gosh I always get them mixed up!

I love working girl and we used to sing the theme tune in our choir. 9-5 is an older film with a similar theme with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. It's brilliant.

'The Dish' with Sam Neill and Patrick Warburton is a lovely gentle comedy drama about the Australian team who helped bring television pictures back from the Apollo 11 Moon landing via the 'dish' (the receiving antenna / radiotelescope at Parkes).

For some reason it's been added to the Internet Archive, not sure it's actually meant to be there https://archive.org/details/TheDish2000

Also it's got a great soundtrack from the 1960s.

Another vote for Lucifer. The first couple of episodes aren't great but then it gets into its stride and it's a blast for 7 seasons!

scoobysnaxx · 06/06/2026 23:24

Coming to America!

CosmicBlunder · 06/06/2026 23:30

Great thread.
Came to suggest The Durrells, but pipped to the post already.
Is Larkrise To Candleford still on iPlayer, I wonder? That's similarly soothing.

friedaklein · 06/06/2026 23:34

Just watched the Blues Brothers- It’s on iplayer.
I forgot how whacky it is- little giggles all the way through and the songs give a happy boost.

OneOfTheseNights · 07/06/2026 00:52

Third (and last) of a trio of films called The Booze Cruise, sun titled The Scattering.
The character of Maurice
(brilliantly played by Brian Murphy RIP aka husband George in Man About The House ) is so funny when he gets the opportunity to relax and laugh.

seagullstolemypie · 07/06/2026 00:55

A film currently on Netflix: “Radio”

ItsGooodToTalk · 07/06/2026 01:23
