How can I deal with my adult daughter refusing to wear a seatbelt?

Please help, I'm at the end of my tether, my 21 year old daughter who will not wear a seatbelt either driving or as a passenger. She was always brought up to wear it and everyone else in the family always wears one. I think it's a sensory thing as she has always been very difficult about changing clothes or dealing with zips and labels etc but if she is going to drive a car, she has to wear it. It's quite unusual for me to be in a car with her anymore but every time recently I have been, I've had to tell her to put it on. I know she goes straight back to not wearing one when I'm not there. I've resorted to threatening to call the police on her myself but short of taking her keys off her I don't know what to do. I'm hoping I can show her this and she can realise how reckless and stupid she's being. Please, if any of you have any pearls of wisdom to share about dealing with a stubborn, know it all daughter, I'd be so grateful.

Tell her its not just her who could be injured with no seatbelt, show her a video of people wearing no seatbelts and the consequences of this and the legal side.

I'd rather she be killed than some poor innocent person... sounds harsh, don't give a shit about selfish people like her. Ops daughter is an irresponsible twat that doesn't deserve the privilege to be driving. I hope she gets caught

And youre a cunt that shouldn’t have a phone🤷‍♀️

Show her photos on Google of dead drivers or passengers, completely smashed apart, from being in crashes when not wearing belts. Show her the images of those people mangled and bloodied on morgue tables; if that doesn't scare her into using her brain, then nothing will, as she won't have one left if she's involved in a serious accident.

And tell her that next time, it might be her lying there in bits.

A test is a totally different situation though. You know you’ll fail if you don’t wear your seatbelt.

As opposed to everyday life when you can die if you don't wear your seatbelt.

If you are more motivated by passing a test than by not dying, maybe you aren't suited to drive ?

So you’re wrong then? Because nothing you’ve quoted there says it’s the drivers responsibility over the age of 14!

The part you conveniently missed from
the HIghway Code is:-

Adults travelling in the rear of a car must also use seatbelts, if they're fitted. It's the responsibility of the adult passenger (not the driver) to make sure that they are using the seatbelt.

It’s stating a belt must be worn if available, which no one is disputing. No where is it saying that the driver is responsible, in fact it clearly states they’re not.

No excuse to be “arsey”, you didn’t come across as being “arsey”, you are “arsey” and wrong.

Stop doubling down, it’s embarrassing.

And if it’s a blur, then don’t talk nonsense and state it’s fact? Save yourself the embarrassment and check it first. Your memory is certainly blurred.

Driver
Adult passengers aged 14 and over
Seat belt MUST be worn if available
Seat belt MUST be worn if available

I'm quite clued up to know or work out when I'm wrong (or right). The rules of the road apply to everyone (unless of course you're a diplomat) and everyone travelling in a car in the UK must be in either a car seat or a seat belt (except for in some exceptional circumstances).

I'm not here for an argument. I just want to have a say in an argument to make sure we all get the right end of the stick. Everyone in a moving vehicle is supposed to be in a position when their possible trajectory is modified to avoid major injury. How does that become so complicated. I grew up before seatbelts, when there was a Guinness book of records record for how many people you could get in a mini. From memory it was @@ 22. Thankfully things have changed or, maybe, it was a fun way to die?

Honestly, stop repeating utter bolded nonsense!

Its not what you said, as you well know!

You said (I’ll bold it for you)

that the driver was responsible for over 14 years olds wearing seatbelts! As you’ve now copied and pasted they’re not!

I don’t care how old you are, it’s irrelevant as well!

Quite clued up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You’re wrong. The driver is not responsible for the passenger over 14 wearing seatbelts!

I don’t think the daughter needs a lift off you, so you’re safe there!

The rest of your post is filled with of personal insults! Very rude and unacceptable. If you resort to this nonsense, people won’t debate with you.

Hopefully, soon to be removed.

Maybe the PP means in the court of public opinion ?
