So sad. RIP Anthony aka Giles aka Ripper in the Buffy episode Band Candy. Huge teenage crush.

God, his poor daughters. Loved him.

The news reports say pneumonia- so sad. I always wonder when people die soon after their partners whether a broken heart comes in to play. His poor daughters.

I have to say I thought he was younger that that too - he always looked in good health. I remember seeing him in LA once and being completely star struck. What a lovely man and a sad loss.

@Delatron I think he must have been at a very low ebb as his partners passing was so recent. My uncle also died very shortly after his wife and although it was a long standing condition it had been stable for years so you can't help but wonder if it was all compounded by his recent loss. I think it is a recognised phenomenon. It's so sad for his daughters.

Really sad, he was great (and to all accounts a genuinely lovely man) and can still see him in the old Gold Blend ads. Brilliant in Merlin and Buffy.

Such sad news. I loved him in everything I saw (or heard) him in. But Herc Shipwright has a very special place in my heart. I will listen to those dulcet tones tonight.

Oh no, not ASH! Giles is one of my all time fictional heroes and Tony was so funny and lovely (and un Giles like, but in a good way). How awful for his daughters.

I literally shouted "oh no" when I saw this thread title. DDs asked me what had happened and they loved him as Uther in Merlin, although he will always be Giles to me.

Yes. He was wonderful in that. I was hoping just the other day that he would also be in The Archers again. Not to be now. I am so sorry for his family. 72 is no age these days.

Condolences to his family, especially his daughters who have lost both their parents within the space of a few months. 😢
