Really glad to have found this thread. I cried yesterday and I don't do that with celebrities. But Buffy was a favourite and ASH was the heart of the series without a doubt.

Met the guy years ago at a convention where he was signing. Really lovely guy and had lots of time for us. Very sad.

It's always a shock when we forget our teenage hero librarians are not immortal. :( I cried.

Such a great actor. Loved to hate him in "Merlin" as Uther Pendragon. I can still remember the coffee ads with Susan Maughan and the "will they, won't they"? Anthony's voice gave me shivers of the "wow" variety.😍

I rewatch Buffy every year (as does my DD1... we are both massive fans since it originially aired) and am on season 5 of my yearly Buffy fest... when DD1 messaged me yesterday with the news.
I don't generally care about Celebs but ASH.. yes I cried. From the coffee ads to Ted Lasso and eveything inbetween, such a good actor and such a truly lovely man.
And his beautiful voice. :(

You and @BoreOfWhabylon both mentioned the lists of Nicest Celebs on here. I would read them every time and then tell Tony that no-one ever said anything bad about him. He was always delighted to hear that. He had time for everyone. Wherever we went he was always stopped by people asking for autographs (in the old days) and then selfies and he never said no and would always have a chat with them as well. He was a truly lovely man.

I can think of 3 Buffy episodes where he sang, and he was amazing. Always makes me think of Willow's comment, on watching him sing and play the guitar, that now she remembered why she'd had such a crush on him. And the way he could switch in a moment for Giles to Ripper, and it be so clear which was which. It takes a skilled actor to make you suspend disbelief, the way he did.

DH and I watched Once More, With Feeling (for the gazillionth time) last night - he is also sad about it. The bit where he’s singing to Buffy that he can’t stay 😢

but honestly my life is richer for “knowing” him or I wouldn’t have seen some amazing programmes

I regularly rewatch Buffy from the beginning all the way through, but I often drop into particular favourite episodes if they suit my mood or I need cheering up or distracting. Band Candy that features Giles in his younger “Ripper” persona is one of my absolute favourite episodes and is one of those perfect pieces of work that stand the test of time. The acting from ASH is particularly superb in that episode, alongside Kristine Sutherland too.

I’m sure you think this makes you sound terribly clever and superior. Spoiler: it doesn’t.

@AnthonyHeadsSisterInLaw I’m so sorry for your losses. I hope ASH’s daughters are getting plenty of support (and that it brings them some comfort to know how loved and respected their dad was).

He was my good friend throughout my childhood and teenage years, a lovely boy and man . RIP Tony x
