What is your go-to order from the chippy?

What is your go to from the chippy? We are having one for dinner tonight and I fancy just chips with curry sauce to dip, usually I get a single black pudding with lots of salt on it and a chip butty with salt, vinegar and broon sauce.

What do you like?

Battered chips? Or an orange battered? Hopefully the chips are battered or you are even weirder than us Scots with the battered mars bars 😆 🤣 😂

Battered, orange chips from the Black Country. Tried them but didn't like them.

What Are Orange Chips And Where Can You Get Them?

Everyone should know about the hyper-local delicacy from our neighbours in the Black Country: battered, orange chips. We can't get enough!

I lived in Wolverhampton for a while and this was the norm - very tasty in a fatty way but really greasy things .

curlycat · 01/06/2026 10:20

@Flannelfeet if you are 30 miles from edinburgh you might be close to me depending on direction and we have a few chinese chippys. We also have a lots of chippys with a kebab shop included. Chips, cheese and donner meat with chilli sauce if my kids favourite. We also have a few italian chippys so lasagne with chippy chips😍
I'm no health freak but is it just me that thinks the smell is also better than the taste

I bet 1 chip is the full days quota for calories 😆. Can you get them in Luton?

I'm not able to eat chippy food anymore it just does not agree with me. In my 20s I loved a veggie burger, spice burger, taco fries and onion rings with garlic sauce

Chippy onion rings are amazing...I love battered mushrooms too 😋

Between 3 of us- large chips, large fish, 2 jumbo battered sausages, a gerkin, curry sauce and if we are being really bad some battered halloumi

SirChenjins · 01/06/2026 10:54

My absolute favourite is a pineapple fritter supper (supper = with chips). Got to be from a really good chippy, with salt and vinegar on the chips, and just a but of salt on the fritter.

Failing that, fish and chips with salt and sauce (east coast sauce up here is the best).

foxinasnowstorm · 01/06/2026 10:56

tinned roe, chips and curry sauce. In a little tray yum!

PaddyTheSaddy · 01/06/2026 10:58

I’m veggie, my go to order is Chips and gravy with lashings and lashings of vinegar. There’s an amazing chippy near us that does vegan food (so not fried in beef dripping and not friend with fish etc) as well as gluten free (their family member has celiac so they take it very seriously!). There’s ALWAYS a queue out of the door!

Bet a pineapple fritter from the chippy is good. 😋

Pizza crunch or half fried pizza (both a Scottish thing) and absolutely amazing. Salt, vinegar & tomato sauce, a couple of pickles too 🤤

tartyflette · 01/06/2026 11:03

My go to fish supper is skate, chips and mushy peas. Sadly our local chippy
rarely does skate these days as it’s getting so expensive, but it’s a lovely fish. DH has cod or haddock, we share a portion of chips (it’s very generous) and the mushy peas. They also do quite good homemade tartare sauce so we have that too.

When in Whitby, small chips, scrapps, peas, loads of salt and vinegar then into the Endeavour for a pint to drink with it.

I have a very fond memory of a superb fish and chip meal at the Magpie in Whitby, we ate in the dining room upstairs. The skate was divine, and DH’s cod overlapped the plate by a good two inches on each side.
Excellent quality fish. We had to queue but it was so worth it.

Sausage in batter and chips

Megsdaughter · 01/06/2026 12:37

We cant get a decent chippy supper down here in Wiltshire. First night home in Alloa its Fish Chips and sauce. Mind im on WLI now so it might be just the fish.

dontforgetme · 01/06/2026 12:41

Either battered sausage, chips and curry sauce. Fish, chips and curry sauce. Or balti pie, chips and curry sauce. We had chippy tea for Ds’ birthday the other week, good god the price!!!
