What is your go-to order from the chippy?

What is your go to from the chippy? We are having one for dinner tonight and I fancy just chips with curry sauce to dip, usually I get a single black pudding with lots of salt on it and a chip butty with salt, vinegar and broon sauce.

What do you like?

I know it's a typo but I read 'code' and chips in a bad French accent like Allo Allo 🤭

Lol I fixed it

I think we’re quite boring here and I never have it because to me it’s seaside food but if I were to order it would just be cod and chips and a pickled onion.

Its a notion for us, not a thing we get often, when we do it always hits the spot.

Battered Sausage and chips with loads of salt and vinegar and curry sauce. If I were back home (SE England) I’d have a pea fritter too, I think they may just be a local thing there, no one else outside of there seems to have ever heard of one.

Whats a pea fritter?

Cod, chips & mushy peas, very traditional me! Actually I could share the chips, there’s always way too many. I get all the condiments out at home: tartare sauce, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, vinegar, plus salt & pepper.

DisrobeDatrobe · 31/05/2026 18:43

A pickled egg.

I now want a chippy tea, not the doubtless nice beef stir fry DP has just started. It's going to be a dinner of sadness.....

There is always tomorrow?

The biggest fish on the menu with batter because, contrary to many, I love the batter. Chips I can take or leave. If I do have any, it is very few. They are not the feature for me. Vinegar is mood dependent.

Ill lower the tone and say deep fried pizza with salt, vinegar and chippy brown sauce! Or battered haggis n chips. Used to love white pudding supper but not many do it now.

Deep fried pizza with chippy sauce is my favourite! My local chippy gives you the choice of cheese and tomato, onion, or mushroom pizza. Love a mushroom one.

Literally a pizza deep fried? Or is this a local thing that's actually not a pizza that people who aren't local would expect?

Absolutely love a pea fritter. I'll have a portion of those please and a portion of battered mushrooms and a "fish special" £6 and easily feeds two!

What actually counts as a haggis supper ? I’m not in Scotland but do like haggis , the more peppery the better, but we have it with mash, greens, carrots and Yorkshire pudding

Literally a deep fried pizza! It’s cheap ready-made pizzas, deep fried. I think it is a very Scottish thing. After all, there isn’t much we won’t deep fry. Some places give you the option of battering the pizza. I recommend that only after a night on the booze as it’s like chewing a greasy slipper.

Cod bites, cheesy chips with gravy and a battered Mars bar
