What is your go-to order from the chippy?

What is your go to from the chippy? We are having one for dinner tonight and I fancy just chips with curry sauce to dip, usually I get a single black pudding with lots of salt on it and a chip butty with salt, vinegar and broon sauce.

What do you like?

DD and I shared a pizza crunch supper last night while watching the BGT final. Gold star brown sauce for her, salt and plenty of vinegar for me.

Mushy peas are the work of the devil.

What actually counts as a haggis supper ? I’m not in Scotland but do like haggis , the more peppery the better, but we have it with mash, greens, carrots and Yorkshire pudding

Chippy wise its made in batter and served with chips. If you havent tried it before I dont think you'd be disappointed.

Its haggis battered with chips...my husband likes it but I dont, I prefer a blackpudding from the chippy. Can also get a spicy haggis too from the chippy.

Chippy isn't open on a Sunday in my part of England.

A fish supper (haddock) and 2 pickled onions

goldenhunter · 31/05/2026 19:29

Cod and small chips, buttered roll and then a small battered sausage so I can share it with the two (very little) DCs who also have a few of my chips! A lethal amount of s&v.

ChasingRainbow5 · 31/05/2026 19:30

Gluten free fish supper, mushy peas, two pickled onions.

Trouserstrouserstrousers · 31/05/2026 19:30

Sheffield fishcake, chips and scraps.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 31/05/2026 19:31

I think Deep fried pizza at a chippy must be a regional thing as I’ve never come across it (nor the Chinese/chippy combo where you can have chips and rice).

WilfredsPies · 31/05/2026 19:41

Cod, chips and tartare sauce if we’re getting it from our local chip shop.

We’re not far from the coast and several pubs and takeaways that do get a daily delivery of fish. One of them does the best fish I’ve ever tasted, but their chips aren’t my favourite, so I have them with new potatoes, which are beautiful with cod and tartare sauce.

DH lives in hope that our local chippy will start doing rissoles.

Notsosweetcaroline · 31/05/2026 18:22

Very few fish and chip shops have daily fish deliveries, mostly it’s a couple of times a week. Unless it’s someone like Rick stein. Your average chippy there is no difference buying on a Monday v a Friday as you don’t know when the delivery was.

I know but it’s been drummed into me ( no fish on a Monday we live at the coast).

Is it Edinburgh broon sauce......if you know you know

Edinburgh sauce is rank. I tried it and had to throw my dinner away!

CatBooksWineInThatOrder · 31/05/2026 19:11

Literally a deep fried pizza! It’s cheap ready-made pizzas, deep fried. I think it is a very Scottish thing. After all, there isn’t much we won’t deep fry. Some places give you the option of battering the pizza. I recommend that only after a night on the booze as it’s like chewing a greasy slipper.

I'm both absolutely disgusted and also wondering how long it would take to get to Scotland for tea 😆

Sheffield fishcake, chips and scraps.

I’m wondering if these are what I used to have ( rather too regularly at lunch) when I had to do relief duties in a mining village near there - they were essentially thinly battered fish cakes rather than breadcrumbed and had a lot of parsley in them - it’s 40 yearsago and I can taste them now!!! lol

BashfulClam · 31/05/2026 19:54

In my area it’s Curries red kola to wash it down. None of the Barr’s nonsense.

Gold star broon sauce 😋. Live about 30 miles from Edinburgh.

Knew it......you can't beat it, it's an easy coast thing. Best sauce ever

Well doesn’t sound remotely healthy but yep I would try that .

ExitPursuedByABare · 31/05/2026 19:58

Large battered fish, large mushy peas, 5 chips. Yes my chippy will chuck me a few chips in for nothing. I’m not a chip lover and their portions are huge. I like to eat the chips on the way home in the car. 😋

NellyNoMates · 31/05/2026 20:00

Chicken goujon supper with taco sauce.
DH will have a cheesy beano

AgnesX · 31/05/2026 20:04

2 single fish and a portion of chips to share. Mushy peas for DH and a pickle for me.

Unfortunately there's no really good chippies near us so it's only on away days to the seaside.

MissAmbrosia · 31/05/2026 20:05

Dh like Huss and I love a Sheppie (are these Kent things?) or battered sausage with chips to share and a pea fritter for me and a picked egg for him. Lots of salt and vinegar.

Lansonmaid · 31/05/2026 20:05

From our local chippy- battered cod/ haddock with chips and their homemade tartare sauce. Salt but definitely no vinegar (the devils elixir on chips but I actually love it when used to pickle gherkins..)
DH has chicken and mushroom pie, chips and mushy peas.
