What is your go-to order from the chippy?

What is your go to from the chippy? We are having one for dinner tonight and I fancy just chips with curry sauce to dip, usually I get a single black pudding with lots of salt on it and a chip butty with salt, vinegar and broon sauce.

What do you like?

One large haddock and chips, curry sauce. I then provide buttered bread and mushy peas from the cupboard and we share the lot.

I’m wondering if these are what I used to have ( rather too regularly at lunch) when I had to do relief duties in a mining village near there - they were essentially thinly battered fish cakes rather than breadcrumbed and had a lot of parsley in them - it’s 40 yearsago and I can taste them now!!! lol

Its sliced potato with cod or haddock in the middle and battered, never had parsley in but maybe they did the past.

Oh yep - I’ve had those too - we used to call them fish scallops - god I loved those as well . You just don’t get them down here in Bath -

Small cod and a cone of chips.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 31/05/2026 20:35

Pudding, chips and gravy! That is, of course, rag pudding, which is a Lancashire thing. My uncle was appalled to find that they didn't exist in chip shops elsewhere 😂

Oh, and a deep fried Mars bar!

FutureMandosWife · 31/05/2026 20:45

Either sausage supper with cheese or the pakora supper (6 pakora and chips)

large haddock and chips to share

battered spam, pickled egg and chips

When in Whitby, small chips, scrapps, peas, loads of salt and vinegar then into the Endeavour for a pint to drink with it.

You're chippy does rice??

A lot of the chippies around Merseyside are Chinese so they do boiled rice.

You'll also be able to buy a savoury. It's a big ball of mashed potato and sage (about the size of a tennis ball), battered and fried.

Bear in mind that this is MN , where a roast chicken lasts all week, so lots of people don’t have a whole portion of chips to them selves. I’ve never met anyone in real life who shares chips.

Our locals portions truly are massive. Like imagine a Tesco bag for life, half filled with chips! That's one portion!!

We definitely share.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 31/05/2026 21:46

Mmm either, large battered sausage with chips and curry sauce loads of salt, vinegar and ketchup or chicken and mushroom pie (needs to have a soggy bottom and crisp top!), chips and mushy peas and curry sauce lashings of salt and vinegar and ketchup on the mushy peas! And a dandelion and burdock.

No human could eat a whole portion of Yorkshire chips and the fish are huge too. Plus its a lot cheaper than some of the prices quoted. Those of you paying £20+ for so little food you can eat a portion of fish and chips to yourselves are being seriously ripped off. Here its about £10-12 for a very large portion, generally enough for two if you add peas and a slice of bread and butter each.

If with DP, we get a haddock each and a portion of chips. They rarely have cod here, which is fine as I much prefer haddock. There will almost certainly be leftovers.

If just me and I don’t want leftovers, I get a fishcake, which is fish sandwiched in slices of potato and fried in batter.

Well doesn’t sound remotely healthy but yep I would try that .

The black pudding is better.. im not a haggis fan mind you. Totally bad for you but well worth the extra healthy meals after it for a month 😆 🤣.

I see, that would be so good in scotland, id be happy with chips, rice and curry sauce 😋. Ohhh that savory sounds delicious..probably call it a tattie ball in Scotland though. Ohh even better if it was served inside a giant yorkie with gravy 😋 😋 😋

Whats on the pizza? I always get loads of salt on the pizza and everything on the chips. Defo buttering your own roll though, it always tastes better with the lurpak 😆 🤣

Onion all the way

Im not a bit salt fan but I do love a roll covered in vinegar

then, around 10pm, I finish off with a box of Gaviscon 😆

Latenightreader · 31/05/2026 22:23

Medium cod and a half chips (wallies added at home). My local chippy is so generous with the portions this feeds me, my daughter, and leaves chips left over!

FrangipaniBlue · 31/05/2026 22:23

Smokey sausage, chips, curry sauce, buttered roll and a pickled egg.

sometimes I push the boat out and ask for a bag of scraps with salt and vinegar on.
