If you plan on voting Reform/ Restore, what could Labour do to win your vote?

SixtySevenLabubus · 27/05/2026 15:34

I am politically homeless but will vote Labour in the next election purely to keep Reform/ Restore out.

For those planning on voting Reform/ Restore, what would Labour have to do to win your vote? I ask as I will be campaigning for Labour and want to work on what the counter arguments will be.

Step pretending men can be women.
Stop charging VAT on education.

Would be a good start.

Definitely not votes for children - that's just a cynical ploy as the very young are idealistic and more likely to vote Labour.
Stop putting taxes up.
Get to grips with the massive welfare bill. The scandal of PIP benefits being assessed on line making it so easy to fiddle. Especially when many people are using AI so that they can use key words to get them over the line.
Repeal Angela Raynors employment act so that companies can afford to employ the young.
Increase defence spending in the savings made on the welfare bill.
Cut the civil service numbers, all the extra people employed during Brexit are still there. Also cut the civil service pensions.
I could go on and on....

Why cut civil servants pensions? They pay so badly how do you expect them to attract good staff?

Pickledonion1999 · 27/05/2026 15:58

I'm not going to be voting reform under any circumstances but labour seriously need to start prioritizing young people before it's too late. Few job opportunities, massive student debt and high housing costs. They throw everything at older people whilst neglecting the young. The amount that some older people are getting in benefits is crazy. I've been working in this area and have seen it. The media keeps talking about a lost generation but this is fast becoming the reality.

SixtySevenLabubus · 27/05/2026 15:45

Why?

Exactly. It's a contributions based benefit.

massivestress · 27/05/2026 16:01

Two of my adult children claim pip and I do think the online groups and ‘help’ is really too much. I’ve never used them and always just scribed for them, but I don’t think key words and knowing how to write a good application should be a factor.

Oooeeh · 27/05/2026 16:07

where To begin.

stop blaming the tories.
sort crime out - even the petty stuff.
sort out SEN
make it pay to work
scrap the cap on nurseries
sort out care home costs. Privately £2000 a week is insane when the council pay £800 a week.
sort out benefits.
sort out nhs.
sort out schools.
sort out anything to do with anything government.
sort out the endless control an abusive partner can have via their child.
sort out the prison system
sort out the court system.
make me feel safe to walk the streets. Sort out vape/barber shops.
stop hiding behind fake net immigration numbers. The British are leaving in droves.
don’t keep pointing to ties with EU - our kids should be able to be educated and find work here.

probably hundreds more !

I agree with all your points, but nothing Reform or restore have said makes me believe they care about any of these things apart from immigration.

Some of the Reforms senior politicians I am sure are interested in financials. That is contracts for when the NHS becomes dismantled, contracts for financial products when the FCA is changed ( the £85.000 guarantee I suspect will go out of the window). Contracts that will be around for the changes to state pension ( you won’t get much of one if you have assets of an undisclosed amount).
Basically contracts for any businesses yet to be set up galore.

Immigration they know is the meal ticket. But they cannot deport anyone anywhere if the country doesn’t accept the person belongs to them. ECHR or not.

Oh totally. I’m just saying if someone actually cares about winning they need to start looking at the actual problems. A fiver off Thorpe park isn’t gonna cut it.

Monty36 · 27/05/2026 16:42

I don’t think Nigel Farage actually wants to be the PM. He doesn’t really even want to be an MP.
He recently announced his shadow cabinet. But, extraordinarily Nadim Zahawi was nowhere to be seen. For anything. Arguably the most senior Conservative to defect to them.
I think if Farage won he would do it find some reason why he could not continue as leader and Nadim would take over.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 27/05/2026 16:54

I'm not a reform voter but tend to right of centre. I think you have to get the very very basics right first decent jobs, housing education and healthcare. Most people want to pay their own way. A decent job enables them to do that.
As a country we need to be self sufficient where we can be. In energy, food industrial things like steel. It is not Net zero to close North sea oil fields and then import oil from elsewhere and just say it's technically someone else's carbon footprint that's just crazy accounting. If like Norway we used our own oil and gas, the closure of straits of Hormuz would have had less of an effect. We have all the technology the refinery at grangemouth stacks of people qualified to work in oil industry who now fly backwards and forwards to middle east Nigeria and South America to work. We can use our own oil and gas sell the surplus and still work on solar wind tidal and nuclear energy sources.
A sensible discussion about immigration needs to be held, we should be training enough nurses doctors engineers etc to not need to pinch personnel from third world countries that need their trained personnel to stay there and work and improve their own country. People here would work in care industry if it paid better. It's a lot of responsibility for 15p and hour more than minimum wage. If they advertised the posts at 30-35k per year there would be plenty of applications

Labour needs to stop patronising the working class especially those in small businesses as thick racists whether they are hairdressers brickies painters or work in a corner shop. Most of these jobs are fixed hours no work from home it's physical and tiring sometimes trades make more money than entry level nurses etc that's okay Labour is not just for public sector workers. But it seems like it is

OK. Put all benefits on an even footing. Either make the State Pension tax free, like other benefits, or make the other benefits taxable.

RollOnSunshine · 27/05/2026 17:17

The single thing that concerns me is the the lawless state that we are becoming coupled with the lessening safety of young women.

Send more crims to jail and if that means cramming more people into the existing jails then do that.
Do not allow people arriving illegally to roam free until their claims have been processed. We would not allow people to waltz into our country bypassing airport security so it should not be allowed at our beaches.

Splooterer · 27/05/2026 17:20

There's absolutely nothing Labour could do to make me vote for them. They're finished as a party.
