It just wont fucking go away, I thought tomorrow was supposed to be cooler. It maybe is by about 1 or 2 degrees 🙄

We are in the south east

The house refuses to cool down because the horrible hellish heat wont fuck OFF

Dread to think whats coming in july/August 😫

The UK just isn't designed for it, its so oppressive

PlumpHobbit · 26/05/2026 22:30

Just seen videos of some of the storms in the Midlands im so jealous 😫

This made me laugh.😂
I'm genuinely not sure why some people came on to a thread that is called HEATWAVE SUPPORT THREAD 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😡😡😡😡😢😢😢...
Where the whole OP is just
'I am not coping'... and then proceed to berate people who have found a little corner of the Internet to have a whinge about it being really, really fucking hot...
... were there not enough clues?? Maybe next time use more emojis OP... or add SAFESPACE - HEAT LOVERS AVOID
IE. GET OFF THE INTERNET AND ENJOY THE ONLY 3 DAYS OF WARMTH YOU GET A YEAR.

I love the sun and don't get enough of it as a rule. However, I'm not coping well with temperatures of 26 degrees. Some of you are probably dealing with much hotter temperatures and you have my sympathies. It probably doesn't help that I have a head cold and I'm all bunged up. I've a visitor coming next week and I'm supposed to be blitzing my house in preparation for her visit, but I'm just not feeling up to it. I put away two loads of washing earlier and had to give up and lie down. Think I may have been a bit dehydrated.

One of my cats doesn't like the heat and struggles a bit during a heatwave. I've been keeping him in during the day and letting him out early in the morning and late in the evening. Hoping I've a bit more energy tomorrow. I think we've one more day of very high (for Ireland) temperatures and then it will be cooler on Thursday.

On a positive note, I've caught up on loads of washing. Finding it hard to squeeze everything into my wardrobe.

Bloody love the heat, bring it on I say. It’s currently 22 with me in Central Scotland and I am loving it, would happily have it hotter. Light linen clothes, cool drinks, great sandals and a good pedi for me, lol. I am physically much healthier in better weather too

Edited

22C is not “heat”. I’m sure the vast majority of people on this thread would be okay with 22C. Where I am it’s fucking 34C! A totally different ballgame.

bluewanda · 26/05/2026 23:46

I screwed up at work today because I felt so lethargic and brain dead thanks to the heat. I opened a window at dusk to try and get some cooler air into the house and now have a bloody enormous moth flying round like something out of Silence of the Lambs (or was it Hannibal). I have sweat pouring down my face and my back is drenched. Honestly, fuck this shit.

bluewanda · 26/05/2026 23:49

What gets me even more about the heat lovers is that they’re literally celebrating global heating and climate breakdown with their inane posts about “how lovely it is”. Bizarre.

MoonlightMemories · 27/05/2026 00:05

The nighttime forecast of temperatures is that it's currently about 18C here....so how even with all the windows in my property open is my bedroom still reading at 25.5C? 😭

No thunder here so far, but we've had some gentle lightening on and off and there's a nice breeze outside, but my bedroom seems to be like a special hear bubble or something that's is impervious to actually getting any in it!😓

I'm finally feeling cool now - i dont have an internal temp gauge though

Dd is still up so no cocktails for me 😫 - shes done well with the heat tbh, but just won't settle

Its saying it could get as low as 17 but now its 21

I've got a bit of an obsession with the weather and also just out of curiosity, I've got portable combined temperature and humidity sensors in both bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and also one in the fridge. They seem pretty accurate with what my main heating thermometer reads for the room temperature.

My hallway is always about 2-3 degrees cooler then any other room, I guess because it's shielded from the sun by all the room doors? Usually I don't notice it but that temperature difference you can really feel in the hotter weather, such as this. I really like data and information 😂😳.

It's saying it could go down to 13 here, but I'll believe it when I see it....or feel it! Sad that no cocktails for you though 😥

No its a good thing to actually have facts! x

I think that the shared hallway of the flat felt cooler, so there's something to be said for the lack of sun 👀

OP posts:
MoonlightMemories · 27/05/2026 00:46

I genuinely think if we get another heatwave like this or worse this year, then I might just camp out and sleep in said hallway instead for as long as it lasts....who needs a bed anyway! 😂

BlackeyedSusan · 27/05/2026 02:32

It's finally getting cooler inside after being 28-30 degrees since Friday. That's with windows open overnight, curtains closed in the day.

StillCreatingAName · 25/05/2026 20:58

DH and I disagree on whether this is the thing to do first thing in the morning. I think only everything shut, windows, blinds the lot not letting any heat or light in works…he says everything open to let air through?!?! Today it was my way and it’s made no difference, it’s still a pit of heat and sweat. South facing bedroom is basically a sauna.

You are both partially right.

First thing open windows and curtains, blinds and if you have a fan point it at the window to get the hot air out. This cools the room.

Then close the windows and doors, if you are staying in the room put the fan on then or ac if you have it. This keeps the room cool(er).

cheezncrackers · 27/05/2026 06:06

Just woke at 5.20am, because the bedroom was so hot. Came downstairs and opened all the doors and windows as it turns out actually the entire house is still like a sauna, but there is a nice, fresh breeze this morning. Poor cat is still boiling. I'm hoping she'll go out and cool herself down. Very happy it's due to be only 25 here today.

KatherineParr · 27/05/2026 06:34

It was meant to be 25 here but I've checked the weather forecast and it's going to be higher. Really disappointed as it was lovely and cool around 1am but that seems to have gone already

Fraughtmum · 27/05/2026 06:40

Well today we are going to London for 3 days 🤣 luckily spending it in galleries and air conditioned theatre.

StephensLass1977 · 27/05/2026 07:12

Much cooler here in the north east of England - in fact we were late to the party with this heatwave - didn't kick in until Sunday, which was boiling. My family in London were sweltering and suffering from Friday though. Friday and Saturday here were cool enough to walk the dogs at midday.

Yes, it's just the fact our houses aren't built for it, then you get people in Dubai, Egypt, Australia etc laughing at how "weak" we are. Really annoys me. We don't have a/c as standard like they do!

tapdancingmum · 27/05/2026 07:12

This is the one we have which is, unfortunately, no longer availbe but gives you some idea of what to look for. We put silent into the search and this one is quieter than other ones. It still makes a noise but we soon got used to it. We did have the curtain to put round the window to seal it but just now shove the tube out the window.GRADE A1 - As new but box opened - ElectriQ SILENT10 10000 BTU Quiet Air Conditioner - Portable for rooms up to 25 sqm from Aircon Direct share.google/DLokrDpXWV55dHr6F air con unit

voxnihili · 27/05/2026 07:19

I normally really struggle in heat waves. We’re away camping at the moment and I was dreading it in the heat. But we’ve bought a paddling pool for around the tent and sleeping has been easier than at home as the tent cools so much quicker in the evening than the house does. Next heatwave I’m camping out in my garden!

Loveinbloom · 27/05/2026 07:51

So much cooler here in Yorkshire, wearing a light jumper at the moment!

Same in Cheshire. There's a lovely breeze here. I've flung every window wide open and it's cooled the house down significantly. Bliss!

Lottapianos · 27/05/2026 08:49

Bright sun with a cool breeze in east London this morning - absolutely lovely. Looking a bit hot for Thurs and Fri but then it's looking like this heatwave at least is definitely at an end!

We'll be moaning about the rain next week 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2026 08:54

Cooler on the NW coast too. I didn't have to get up super early to take the dog out (still before 7, but nearer to 7 than 6!). There's a lovely breeze and it's about 18° right now.

We had a very delayed train ride home yesterday due to restrictions on speed because of the heat. We also lost our driver at Crewe and had to wait about 20 minutes for another to arrive!

I'm happy to be home, it has to be said. DS has requested that our next London trip is in either Feb or October. Can't blame him really!
