What’s the nicest vanilla ice cream?

I’ve tried carte d’or, too sweet, and Hagen daaz has a weird texture these days.

I watched a comparison thing on YouTube the other day and the best ice-cream (as in the one with ingredients you would find in homemade ice-cream, with no additives) was Mackies.
When this one melted, it turned into a puddle, whereas the Walls, HaagenDas, Carte for all held their shape as they contained so many gums and stabilisers.

I always buy duchy originals vanilla from waitrose - lovely flavour and nothing weird added.

I’ll have to try Mackies. Don’t think they do vanilla though

Love Mackies. It’s not actually vanilla though, it’s just milk flavour, which is why it’s so nice.

Came on to say Mackies too - not technically vanilla as is simply fresh cream cream - it’s delicious.

Mackies. All the flavours, but the traditional one is so far above any competing (vanilla) ice cream that it ought to be in a class all of it's own.

Another vote for Kelly’s clotted cream.

I like Sainsbury’s TTD Madagascan vanilla, (no bad ingredients) but you do have to take it out of the freezer a bit before you want it, otherwise it’s very hard to scoop.

Joes. It’s absolutely delicious and the only one I don’t buy as I found myself opening the freezer all the time to take a spoonful 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm not keen on Mackies at all. They do a vaniilla, but its quite sweet and not very creamy.

Tesco Best vanilla is quite good or at least it used to be.

Another shout for Mackies. Not really vanilla flavoured but very delicious. They also do a caramel flavour with crunchy bits in which is AMAZING with sticky toffee pudding.

The best vanilla ice cream is Jelbert’s : made in tiny batches in Newlyn, Penzance. It’s perfect 🍦

Glad to see other people love Kelly's clotted cream - i thought I was the only one!

In terms of cleanest ingredients, with no stabilisers, gums and artificial ingredients, I have only found these three in supermarkets: Waitrose Duchy, Hagen Dazs and Yeo Valley. I buy whichever is on offer. I have never tried Mackies. I just checked and it has stabilisers and emulsifiers, but maybe it tastes good as so many here like it.

The thing is Kelly’s clotted cream is….clotted cream flavoured. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s not vanilla.

I grew up in the US and I have despaired for nearly 2 decades now about the lack of vanilla ice cream here. Everything is just cream flavoured, but no actual vanilla. I want specks of real vanilla bean in it like I grew up eating and that’s really hard to find.
