They could have at least waited a bit. Until a few years out of office.

Like Biden. All the billions Trump claims Biden and Hunter were paid, they ain't splashing it about on private Bond villain islands. No, they are more restrained. Biden bought a new tin of Turtle Wax for his Corvette, and Hunter bought a new laptop.

They don't have that much time.

The Trump family need to squirrel away the money and buy a hideout before the old man dies. Because once he's rotting in hell, their assets will be frozen and warrants issued for their arrests.

"Of course, I still don't put it past him to try to run a third time. I know, Constitutionally that's not possible. Won't stop him trying though. Not that he'd really expect to win, he just wants the publicity and the attention."

Genuinely, @AcrossthePond55, though it’s supposedly not possible constitutionally, I still would not be at all surprised if he managed to wangle himself a third term, given the current State of the Union, and everything he has managed to dismantle in such a relatively short time compared to the centuries it took to establish the United States as we used to know them before 2016.

That's an interesting thought. I can 'sort of' see Scrotus putting him forth as a potential candidate, but I don't think 'Lil Donnie has a chance of the actual nom.

I think deep down Scrotus realizes this. And I think that in actuality he's going to endorse a 'viable' candidate who he thinks is the most likely to 'deify him' and who vows to 'continue his legacy'. I don't think he'll care if that person continues his political legacy (such as it is) as long as he says he's the 'best POTUS we've ever had' and praises his golden gilding and golden statues and such to the skies and vows to keep those things as a 'testament to this great, great man' (ie the ballroom, arch, etc, picture on everything).

Of course, I still don't put it past him to try to run a third time. I know, Constitutionally that's not possible. Won't stop him trying though. Not that he'd really expect to win, he just wants the publicity and the attention.

As soon as he nominates a successor he loses all power.

Whistleblower at the SSA reporting something we'd heard whispers of on these threads: that the Trump administration planned to declare people dead in order to make their lives unbearable.

Their simplistic thinking being that if you make people's lives hard(er), people will leave the country, even if they're US citizens.

The Trumpies don't seem to have thought of the other option, that the de-existed people will increasingly move into the criminal economy to survive. Plus you've just broken the systems you could use to track these de-existed people because, after all, they're dead...

They scaled down from their plan of 2.7 million people and actually de-existed 6100 people. Some of whom turned up at government offices to point out that they were still alive.

Trump’s DOGE team wanted to declare nearly 3 million living people dead to help drive out migrants, whistleblower claims

As soon as he nominates a successor he loses all power.

Technically he doesn't 'nominate a successor'. He 'endorses a candidate'. The candidate is nominated by state delegates based on primary results at the National Convention. Obvs an endorsement by a popular POTUS can go quite a ways as far as votes in the primaries and also after the candidate is chosen for the general election, but there have been notable failures. Two off the top of my head are Bush Sr endorsed McCain who lost to Obama, Reagan endorsed Bush Sr who lost to Clinton. And by the end of his term Dubya was so unpopular that 'behind the scenes' candidates were actively avoiding his endorsement and the party 'requested' he lay low.

I wouldn't say a POTUS 'loses all power' after a candidate is nominated. The 'lame duck' period is traditionally after the election. But TBH I think Scrotus' lame duck period is already beginning. His popularity is plummeting, the GOP legislators are starting speak up, if not actually rebel. If the midterms go the way they should, he'll pretty much be a lame duck for the rest of his term. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Well, he can try. But other than an actual coup (and he tried that on Jan 6) it won't happen. The process is spelled out pretty plainly in the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. Briefly, it has to be proposed and the proposal passed by a supermajority in both the House and Senate. When the proposal hits the floor of each house it has to be debated again prior to another vote to authorize it and passed in both houses in a supermajority. Then it has to be voted on and ratified by 38 states.

Whilst he has done end-runs around parts of the Constitution, I don't think he'd be able to do an end-run around the 22nd Amendment. And personally, I think the GOP will be glad to see the back of him. I'm pretty sure he's at the 'hold your nose and swallow the medicine' stage.

CaveMum · 07/06/2026 07:37

Hi all, apologies for the absence but life has been pretty mad the last week or two. All good though.

On the Trump succession front, I genuinely don’t think he gives a shit who gets the nomination. If whoever it is wins the Presidential election he’ll say it’s all down to him. If they lose he’ll say it’s because he is not on the ballot.

Vance is already toast and he knows it. The only way he’s getting close to power is the 25th or a timely intervention from the bloke with the scythe!

The minute he shuffles off, the grifting bunch of fucks will scatter like rats when the lights come on.
I expect all of them will flee the US. Ivanka and Jared to their Albanian fortress/Israel. The Fuckle Brothers (Don Jr and Eric) to wherever they can hunt more endangered animals. Baron, fuck knows but he seems to have friends in low places.

“And we’ve also had huge drops in — and I’ll tell you, this is something that’s amazing: African American unemployment is now doing better than it’s ever done. And I don’t know where that stat came from, but I’ll take it,”

“I don’t know where the hell that stat come — but we’ll take it.”

(It's at 6.6%. It was 6.2% when he was inaugurated. )

I think it was mentioned previously re Doge cost cutting activities, but I've been reading up on screwworms, and now that a second case has been found, US cattle ranchers must be in full panic mode over it spreading.
Canada has temporarily banned imports of Texan livestock; possible higher beef prices.... any cost of living increase will go down well with the voting public.

Next week's high points?

Trump’s name coming off the Kennedy Centre and Trump getting booed at the Knicks game.

(Knicks fans not at all happy he is planning on attending.)

@AcrossthePond55, thank you for the explanation of the 22nd Amendment, I had no idea about the supermajority. I really hope you’re right and he won’t be able to get around it. But I don’t trust him at all, because he has proven numerous times that when he puts his mind (such as it is) to it, he just gets away with stuff he shouldn’t, if you see what I mean.

But at least he’s passed all his medicals.

I can heard the phrase "compensating control" asking to be let into the chat.

Is that a mitigating action by another name?

ETA: If so, that’s where Canada and co are headed by forging new alliances and procuring hardware and services with less unpredictable partners.

I'm not sure it will be immediate for all. I suspect one of his sons wi bizarrely assume he is the natural successor and try to step into the limelight as heir. They do seem to have a loose hold on reality.

If some is dead they can't legally be prosecuted. Be a shame if they killed someone while they didn't exist.

Did Hegseth REALLY quote a line from Team America in his offensive and self-serving dribblings in Normandy - www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c802e7jk458o ?!

Fuming about that nasty crap; my grampy was a front-line medic in WW2 and went over on D-Day (also was involved in Op. Market Garden and was with the unit that liberated Bergen-Belsen). I am so, so furious that these sufferings and horrors have been r~ped for bait by DT's people. But I am now so very livid and indignant about all of them that my fury would only be audible to bats and very small dogs. Team America is such a metaphor for the US at the moment - Trump is a live-action version of the Kim-Jong Un puppet.

One of my hearings-to-the-purpose was that an early plan was for Vance to run for POTUS in 2028, endorsed by DT, with DT as his running shuffling mate. When Vance was duly elected by the MAGA faithful and millions of grateful ordinary citizens, he would promptly resign and Trump would resume the presidency under Section 1 of the 25th. Hope not. I do begin to scent the whiff of some tides turning. I'm not a violent person, but I'd like to see some most of them go up against a wall like Ceaucescu. But there will probably be little or no justice for these and many, many other ongoing evils. America - oh, f~ck yeah.

Do you mean Sweden ?

Or do you mean the EV and agri deal with the PRC last year. I remember at the time of the PRC deal that Trump said the PRC would eat him and spit him out. Or words to that effect.

There was much in that article to be afraid of, including the use of non-approved laptops and unauthorised access to SS data. After access was banned, the ban was lifted by the Supreme Court last summer - shocker!

Are members of the public not paying attention, or is the constant onslaught of chaff distractions working?

There was that, Pope. Where they dug up his rotten dead body, tried him, then executed him.

The whole thing stunk.
