Sadly, I saw that thread too. Very depressing how some posters turned what was quite obviously a tragic accident into an opportunity to blame migrants on small boats and bring Starmer into it again.

And they now look very stupid.

At least there were plenty of people calling out the anti-migrant posts. That was encouraging.

It was. There are still some decent people left on MN.

I just listened to some of Badenoch's speech. She was quite funny, but completely over-egged it and ended up sounding like a newbie doing their first stand-up gig at the Comedy Club. Plus she became so strident, it hurt my ears.

I think there are plenty of decent people on MN. They just get drowned out by the performative twerps. A bit like Westminster.

Maybe. Streeting’s majority is wafer thin and he’s tainted by Mandelson, Milliband is the past. Carns is a clean skin and would bring discipline to the party. He’s also relatively young. I think he’d be the party’s best chance.

I went back to double check his age because I looked at his pic before. he's 46 but he looks 56! Guess the Marines ages a man.

I agree. His politics are probably not for me in some respects, but I think a fresh face is needed. It would be a risk, but one worth taking.

I have been avoiding the news by going to see a horror film with DD as a treat fro getting the librarian job. It was in fact scarier than the news.

Carns has the advantage of the military background. Very hard to use the ‘hates this country’ line of attack.

Angela Rayner has been, according to "insiders", been cleared by HMRC, so yet another slur she has had to endure.

The media really do hate her.
