I dont think you can really blame voters in cases where the person elected is actually ineligible to stand. That is solely on the party clearing them to stand.

Fair. Except it’s not exactly unlikely to be the case. Voting for a party eit( a proven track record of candidates who are ineligible or objectionable or just not actually wanting to do the job is a bit mad though.

dontcallmelen · 19/05/2026 18:39

The sainted Kemi, such arrogance & lack of manners.
the reform candidate for Makerfield sounds a total delight, I dunno depressing as fuck that these people are given oxygen let alone be on a ballot paper.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 19/05/2026 20:16

One of the recent Reform councillors in my district council area is getting investigated for alleged false statements on his nomination papers! @BIossomtoes did you see this.

No. Where did you see it?

ETA Found it!

I saw that! Lovely bloke 🤔😬

The Reform lot in Ipswich are taking a leaf out of Nottingham's book and refusing to talk to anyone but GB news.

I completely agree. Out of curiosity, how come you were visiting Auschwitz? Were you there to see it for yourself, or were you leading a school trip there or something?

I'm here to learn, to try to understand how Germany got from a to b to c etc.

Whoop! A result I can get behind - much excitement in the Stairs household. 🏆⚽️

DuncinToffee · 19/05/2026 23:00

Jake Berry on Newsnight is doing his best to sound like a MAGA regarding Farage. Farage himself seems to have gone awol.

Congratulations to Arsenal fans!

Farage's absence is being noted.

Apparently it’s not true. 🤷‍♀️

Even the smallest sliver of good news must be a fib. Rachel Reeves made it up, I heard.

This is good - for Arsenal fans and for Farage non fans!

I am interested why, but any opportunity not to see his revolting self with his revolting opinions is one I will always take!

Obviously, I despise him top to toe for who he is, but he also really does give me an absolute ick, as they say, and always has since the first time I inadvertently came across him.

Totally. That fake semi-laugh he does is the most ick-inducing for me. 🤢

Notonthestairs · 20/05/2026 09:23

Inflation slowing is undoubtedly good news - the government’s energy support package did its job.

But I can see why it might not provide much comfort given there is no end to the war in Iran.

The same war Farage & Badenoch were behind until it became clear the public knew it was a shitshow with the potential to derail the world economy.

How many weeks in to 5/6 week campaign? 10? 12?

Notonthestairs · 20/05/2026 09:24

Farage hiding from questions about the £5 million payment for Brexit? Surely not.

Yes, me too. The pretence that he’s a ‘man of the people’, pint in his hand, when he’s nothing of the sort. Too bad it won’t be forever.

Puzzling, though, when Reform were supposedly going to go all out to beat Burnham in the Makerton by-election.

DuncinToffee · 20/05/2026 09:44

Avoiding awkward questions about the Makerfield candidate?

The guy managed to get his X account suspended.

That’s all they’ve got really, isn’t it? Must be made up if it doesn’t show Labour destroying both the economy and people’s lives…

DuncinToffee · 20/05/2026 10:25

Some of them probably lost money on wanting Reeves to resign.
