Is it an 11 egg omelette too much?

Would you say an 11 egg omelette, roughly 3 times per week, is a lot/too much for 1 person?

Eggs don’t contribute to bad cholesterols that’s been disproven. He will however be eating 1,100 calories per omelette which is too much for one meal and it will likely make him constipated

You do know that there is no rule that says a meal has to contain below a certain number of calories? Also no chicken egg is going to be 100 calories. The average egg is only around 70.

True about the calories it’s slightly lower. And there’s no rule, but government guidelines (Eatwell Booklet) suggest 600 for dinner.

Apologies for delay , not long came back

Yes he is involved in weight lifting and it's 11 eggs because I buy a box of 12 and the twelfth he eats raw (in a glass) so it empties the box.
The row last night was caused because he didn't understand why people were talking about his bowels but I said that's not the point. I can see there has been some really useful nutritional information posted since (thank you), I am tempted to show him again as think it would be useful but I'm not risking it at the moment as can't go through all that again. I'll show him tomorrow or print it out before I go to work and leave it .
Thanks again all

I think it’s about time you stopped being so controlling and dictating what he can eat.

Do not show him this thread and perhaps respect your relationship more than a MN thread.

You still haven’t said why you threw his food out?

Clearly he will know if he’s constipated or not and he’s allowed to eat as many cals as he wants in a meal, it’s not like the cal police will come to his door.

Nearly50omg · 09/05/2026 21:35

Is he a world champion heavyweight boxer? Then yes it’s fine but if he’s just mr slob on the sofa then nO! He’s a greedy bastard!!

Well I hardly have ever brought it up before but yes maybe you're right

I chucked it out because I wanted a takeaway rather then cook a load of eggs and I was cooking and drinking which probably didn't help and flipped when he started up about Mumsnet

Right but how did the omelette end up in the bin?

ThisHotMess · 09/05/2026 21:43

Eh? An omelette has 2 eggs!

If he needs protein then the eggs are fine I know plenty of body builders who eat 7 and 8 eggs a day . I have 19 hens so plenty of fresh eggs and sell a guy 3 dozens a week as he is a body builder and they use a lot of protein . Eggs are an almost perfect source of protein .

kkloo · 09/05/2026 21:38

Right but how did the omelette end up in the bin?

She threw it in there because she’s stressed and fed up with it all?

ElleintheWoods · 09/05/2026 22:02

rainbowunicorn · 09/05/2026 15:07

There are around 70 calories in an egg
11 eggs, less than 800 calories. Probably about the same as a Tesco meal deal at lunchtime and less than many other main meals. Why would you think 800 calories is a lot and that it should be all someone eats in a day? An average man needs 2400 calories a day so this meal is a third of that.

Yes okay fair enough! I don't eat much so perhaps my view is a bit skewed.

Having said that, I occasionally run a nutrition diary to track my macros. And my 3-egg omelette is 500 calories. This is because I add butter, cheese and maybe a filling like mushrooms, veg or chicken. Therefore my 11-egg omelette would come close to 2000 cals.

I assumed an omelette is a bit more than just the eggs! Or do most people count beaten fried eggs as an omelette?

So he expects you to cook this monstrosity for him, and you don’t get a takeaway? Sod that for a game of soldiers, he can cook his own Frankenstein-omelette surely.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2026 22:12

Why couldn’t you have a takeaway and he have his ommlette

tho he can cook it his self

Stressed and fed up with him eating 11 egg omelettes?

Does he always expect you to cook it ?

honeybeetheoneandonly · 09/05/2026 22:34

Another cliffhanger???? Did you get a take away with your friend?

TangfasticAddict · 09/05/2026 22:58

Also interested in the size of your frying pan 👀

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2026 00:22

I would like to see how big an 11 egg ommlette is

and does he have ham cheese peppers onion etc in it

You could still have got a takeaway, and he could have made his own omelette.

Although I am struggling to see how you could make a really good one with 11 eggs in a normal sized frying pan.

I agree that this is unreasonable and controlling behaviour- yours I mean, @ShakyBake And really wasteful - throwing it out because it’s not what you want to eat.

If he’s a competitive bodybuilder he needs to get the most amount of protein for the lowest number of calories he can find. Eggs are perfect for this. Far healthier than a take away.

it may be a weird way of eating, but there are reasons for it. Maybe your issue is actually with his body building than him eating 11 eggs?

Either way, you’ve behaved badly, IMO..

Vodka1 · 10/05/2026 07:53

You threw his dinner away because you wanted a take out???

If it was his omelette why couldnt you order food anyway?

A 5.5 egg if it's shared is alot different. Alot but not unrealistic

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 10/05/2026 09:02

11?! And 3 times a week?! That’s bonkers!!

BrendaSmall · 10/05/2026 18:51

HayfeverComethAndThatRightSoon · 08/05/2026 22:26

Yes but the constipation and, also, who has a frying pan large enough?

Constipation??
I eat loads of eggs and never constipated!

Easterchicken · 10/05/2026 19:36

Erm

Yes

That's vile
