I’m staying in a Travelodge, guess how many rooms have dogs booked in?

45 apparently šŸ«£šŸ˜‚. Some rooms have several dogs. I fear I should have brought earplugs.

I also didn't know Travelodge allowed dogs. I think websites need to make it very clear if they are dog friendly. It's completely reasonable for people to assume dogs are not allowed in such places, unless they advertise it.

Did it not show up as an option when booking the room? I've seen that when going to book a hotel. Didn't realise they were dog friendly until there was a drip down box about pets. I was thankful I spotted it and booked elsewhere.

Google the hotel and 'dog friendly'. It is not hard.

Is there a dog show nearby?

Yes, it’s the National dog show this weekend. We are entered for tomorrow. You have to pay an extra Ā£20 for a dog. Receptionist said lots of people try and smuggle dogs in without paying extra but they’re on to them. šŸ˜†

Just spent the week at TravelLodge in London. Didn't see one dog.

Premier Inn don't allow dogs for those who are interested.

The last Travelodge I stayed in a few dogs would have improved the smell and ambience.

And customer safety.

Hallamule · 07/05/2026 20:23

Not surprised. Travel Lodge rooms are open to anybody and anything that can pay.

And customer safety.

Well there’ll certainly be no strange men coming in my room in the middle of the night….if they did they’d be running out pretty quick.

I'd tell them.

One of the expensive Salons in my nearest big town has a "salon dog" I would never book an appointment there.

Don’t go. No one is forcing you. You can’t dictate that businesses become intolerant like you. Go to a dog unfriendly business.

My partner goes to a barbers that has a resident dog.
They are always very busy.

I would want to go to a business with a resident dog. Staff is always warm and friendly in such places.

I like dogs, but people who have an allergy or a phobia are being royally screwed at the moment by the fact that dogs are seemingly being allowed in more and more places.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 07/05/2026 20:31

Travelodge have allowed dogs for years, 2 dogs per room.
used to be £20 per dog, per stay ?

maftan · 07/05/2026 20:31

I agree that the prevalence of dogs and the entitlement attitude of the owners is becoming very annoying.

I was at a local history tour at the weekend. Great guide, fantastic tour around the place in question. Three participants had their dogs with them. OK it was outdoors, so what's the problem you ask? Well the dogs were tugging on the leads, the owners were tugging them back and giving them commands to sit etc. all the while the guide was trying to speak. Then of course for some participants the dogs were the centre of attention, ooh, aah, he's gorgeous, what breed, how old? etc. Guide was trying to deliver his talk. Awful stuff. Big dogs too, and one little one in arms, yep.

I spoke with the guide later on and he said they were trying to have dog free tours, but the vote of the history committee went against that.

I was not impressed. There's a time and a place isn't there?

It is not "entitled" for a dog owner to stay in a hotel that allows dogs.

MsGreying · 07/05/2026 20:32

We'd need to leave. DH is allergic.

Are they staying in your room?

SpringLambton · 07/05/2026 20:33

The last Travelodge I visited had local Police dogs patrolling the hotel corridors at random times!

Let's hope they don't cover your hotel tonight OP. Could be mayhem!

Sasha07 · 07/05/2026 20:34

Off topic but I wouldn't want my dog to be breathing in all the hair cuttings and chemicals šŸ˜¬šŸ˜…
Wouldn't bother me if a salon/barber had one, I'd definitely be more concerned about the dogs health and high sense of smell 😬 my hairdresser says she's always covered in fine hair, so I'd assume a wet nose would be attracting a fair few...

Sidenote, oh, how I'd love to be in reception when everyone is passing by with their dogs off to the show! Huge dog lover! (But agreed they aren't great for anyone with allergies or just wanting to get on with their shop etc, I don't think they actually should be in shops, especially with things at cock-legged height! Every time I go in Pets At Home, there's a wee on the floor... But atleast we know to expect it there!)

RedVanYellowVan · 07/05/2026 20:35

That is precisely my main reason for never staying in a Travelodge.

I would rather pay two or three times the price for a dog free environment, or not go away at all.

Clafoutie · 07/05/2026 20:38

YeOldeGreyhound · 07/05/2026 20:33

Are they staying in your room?

For many people with an allergy, that’s irrelevant. The presence of just a few dog hairs in carpet or upholstery can be enough to cause an allergic reaction.

maftan · 07/05/2026 20:38

YeOldeGreyhound · 07/05/2026 20:32

It is not "entitled" for a dog owner to stay in a hotel that allows dogs.

Some owners think like that though. Never a care in the world for others who may not favour dogs having been in a room before they occupied it. The choice to do avoid dogs in hotels is becoming narrower every day. That's what annoys me. So many can't stay in a place because dogs are allowed for various reasons.

Separate wings or floors even would be good, but not every hotel can or will do this.

cobrakaieaglefang · 07/05/2026 20:39

I've used travelodge precisely because they allow dogs. We pay an extra charge for the extra cleaning, no problem. There were other dogs at the time as well, only knew because we were out giving 'wee' breaks at the same time, only noise was a drunken stagg party staggering back early hours.

Dog show at Stafford this weekend šŸ‘šŸ»

Waitingfordoggo · 07/05/2026 20:40

I bloody love dogs but this is ridiculous. Too many hotels, shops and cafes now allow dogs in and I think it’s horribly unfair to those people who are allergic or phobic or just don’t like dogs.
