A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes because people love it when you dismiss their fears, gaslight them and call them racist...
They don't learn, do they?

...or give rape alarms to children as you posted recently.
You're right, they don't learn.

I'm not. Glasgow has taken an enormous amount of asylum seekers and refugees and they've been linked to a number if sexial assaults. Some issues in Dundee and Aberdeen also. Then there was the stabbing in Edinburgh by a nursery school, with the very obviously 40 something year old man called 23 by the police. Said man subsequently bailed.
There's a lot of anger.

I thought I'd look up the consituency polling for Glasgow after reading this. There may be a lot of asylum seekers in Glasgow, but Glasgow doesn't want Reform it seems.

I love Glasgow. It is a great place.

Glasgow Anniesland - SNP 40% Labour 25%, Reform 13%

Glasgow Baillieston and Shettleston - SNP 38%, Labour 21%, Reform 15%

Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok - SNP 40%, Labour 27%, Reform 18%

Glasgow Central - SNP 51%, Labour 25%, Reform 15%

Glasgow Easterhouse and Springburn - SNP 44%, Labour 19%, Reform 17%

Glasgow Kelvin and Maryhill - Green 30%, SNP 25%, Labour 17%

Glasgow Southside - SNP 28%, Green 23%, Labour 21%

Reform more popular in Dundee and Aberdeen

Aberdeen Central - SNP 47%, Reform 17%, Labour 16%

Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine - SNP 29%, Conservative 24%, Reform 22%

Aberdeen Donside -- SNP 40%, Reform 22%, Conservative - 14%

Aberdeenshire East - SNP 30%, Reform 27%, Conservative 24%

Aberdeenshire West - Conservative 30%, SNP 26%, Reform 21%

Dundee City East - SNP 39%, Reform 24%, Labour 14%

Dundee City West - SNP 47%, Reform 19%, Labour 17%

Highest Reform polling is:

Cunninghame South - SNP 31%, Reform 29%, Labour 20%

which has a majority white population with with a lower-than-average proportion of Asian, Black, or mixed-race residents compared to the national Scottish average.

There's a big traffic group on FB. Admin did a who would you vote for poll. They all got around 3% or less bar reform who got 57%. Car drivers are not happy people.

I think a number of the papers are covering this today. Shows collapse in the Labour Muslim vote. Suggests around one quarter will base vote on the Gaza conflict and that over 60% overwhelmingly prioritise their religious identity over their British nationality despite around 75% also describing their Britishness as important to them.

Whilst I ‘get’ Reeves on this occasion, I wish she was as firm with Labours back benches….

US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent had a fierce row with UK chancellor Rachel Reeves in Washington last month over her outspoken criticism of the Iran war, according to people familiar with the matter. The chancellor, who was in Washington for the spring meetings of the IMF, gave an interview to CNBC on April 15 claiming the goals of the Iran war had “never been clear”. Reeves expressed the view that she was “not convinced” that “we are safer today than we were a few weeks ago”, prompting furious criticism from Bessent. When the pair met later that day Bessent berated Reeves over the remarks, according to people familiar with the situation. The Treasury secretary insisted the world was safer because of the US-Israeli war against Iran, even invoking the spectre of Tehran launching a nuclear attack on London. Reeves responded angrily by telling Bessent she did not work for him and disliked how he had spoken to her.

She's received a lot of criticism for this from what I've read. A lot of anonymous fury from the British side. The consensus is that she absolutely should voice her concerns privately, but calling the actions of the US govt "folly" publically, whilst on American soil was a bad move and showed her inexperience.

Very worrying to see sectarian politics. The Greens are using this to win votes.

Agree - she comes across as extremely chippy.

Not the first time she’s publically demanded ‘respect’.

Well, guess what - she has not earned it. Quite the contrary.

100% - it will only take them so far.

The politics of grievance and pandering to the Muslim vote.

Dave is already getting found out.

Well yes, she has form here doesn't she.
I suspect she has the recognition and heft of a fruit fly in the WH.

Yes, that was my thought. If you were the second most senior politician in the UK talking to your opposite number in the government of the most powerful and important ally the UK has, you’d have to have a reason to leak a personally advantageous account of a private conversation, or to condone the leak.

What’s the most likely reason? I’d think it was prep for a tilt at PM.

EasternStandard · 05/05/2026 11:22

On the Reeves stuff I think Labour are clinging on to anything that gets away from the incoming trouncing. And they have fond memories of a poll bounce once around that issue.

I don’t think it’ll factor much this week. It’s looking pretty conclusive and historic.

On that note I hope to see a few ‘historic losses / other for Labour’ headlines

It would not surprise me given her superiority complex - particularly against such a weak field….
