Im shocked whatever one’s opinion on immigrants the laughing comments on dead children is truly horrific. One lady says best thing I’ve read all week’ !one click in her profile and it shows she’s a mum with kid herself. This is the ITV news page! I don’t even recognize this country anymore?

the amount of horrible comments. They are children, human beings. Truly horrific times we are heading into with a lack of empathy I thought I’d never seen given the history of WW2 as I said whatever opinions are on the Boats laughing at dead children and the comments is unsettling

There are very few “children” arriving on these boats. The absolute vast majority are adult men. Not women. Not children. Most of them are not from war torn countries. They’re also uneducated with no background checks etc. People are incredibly naive to the true situation. These are not starving refugees from war torn countries 🤣

They don't deserve to be laughed at when they drown either. Unless you are a cunt, that is.

You know your experience isn’t necessarily the same as other areas? Telling someone to ‘go fuck themselves’ for daring to express a different experience risks sounding a little unhinged.

It's unhinged to assume that anyone who can muster up half an ounce of compassion for people who have led their entire lives behind must never actually interact with those people. I don't give a single fuck how you think I sound.

usedtobeaylis · 03/05/2026 19:05

Some of you could do with paying attention the next time your local integration network is trying to build community links instead of sitting in your ivory tower pretending it's refugees and asylum seekers who don't want to integrate and not you. Probably wouldn't see half you darken the door of one.

emuloc · 03/05/2026 19:06

The total lack of empathy from some posters is sad to see. Lets just hope that these people never find that they have to flee their homeland, for whatever reason.

What is wrong with you? Why are you being so aggressive and swearing at people?

It’s possible that the previous poster has also interacted with them and views that less positively.

Because you don’t sound that compassionate- just aggressive

SwissEscape · 03/05/2026 19:08

People become apathetic and also some people who make these comments seem to be from a lower socio economic background and are likely to be very poorly educated. I saw some mum's with toddlers screaming recently on the news save our children and their children looked terrified.

Having said that for everyone's sake we need to stop people risking their lives coming here and stopping it any way we can.
For everyone's sakes

16% of passengers are under 17. There was a photo, years ago of a poor little boys body washed up on the shore and people said never again then. Now they laugh at the posts of dead children.

Then they are sadistic wankers. You dont need to like the small boats but a child is a child!!!

People need to remember we are an island. If anything happens to us (unlikely but heaven forbid) we will be full of boats heading for our neighbouring coastlines.

cobrakaieaglefang · 03/05/2026 19:09

Any social media posts about boat people will be wrapped up in the land of conspiracy theories, invasion, the 'great reset', etc. A lot of people are very cynical.

I know people who think reported deaths are faked, particularly if women and children are involved, therefore take the piss out of reports.

At best because they cant imagine a sane parent risking their child's life when they are already in a safe country at worst because they don't want more dependants adding to the social bill.

Dullmary · 03/05/2026 19:10

It’s been this way for a while now, on both local and national news pages on sm. It’s horrific. A few years ago comments like this would be deleted instantly, now they’re left up and all the other thick cowardly scum pile on with their laughing emojis and back slapping.

Makes me think of Nazi Germany, how when we learned about it at school it seemed so completely incomprehensible that people could have allowed that to happen.

it doesn’t feel incomprehensible anymore.

Like I said, I’m neutral but surely you can understand those concerns are legitimate.

The way to deal with them is not to just shout everyone down as a Farage supporting loon. People have concerns and they need to be discussed.

Januarybluesss · 03/05/2026 18:45

Go and live in a rough area with a high majority of brand new migrants and come back and tell us how wonderful it is 🤣
If you live in a nice middle class area where the only immigrants you encounter are decent hardworking people who actually want to integrate, then you have absolutely no idea what it’s really like.

I’ll wager you’ve never met an asylum seeker in your life. I’ve met hundreds. News flash - they’re people. Just like you.

Quokkafeet · 03/05/2026 19:15

It's shocking. I think what the internet has done is uncover these attitudes. People must always have held these beliefs but now they have a safe way to express them which then emboldens others to do the same. It's thoroughly depressing knowing people like this walk among us.

It's also one of the things I worry most about when it comes to giving my children phones - they will also have the realisation that people like this exist in droves around them and it will change their perception of society entirely.

What is 'wrong' with me is that I'm sick of these backwards attitudes. Notable that people would rather revert to tone policing though. As ever.

I'm a bit thin on compassion for racism. I didn't say it was elastic.

I have said nothing negative about them as I don’t have the experience to comment. But being that aggressive is going to bulldoze over what you think, which I don’t doubt is compassionate towards the people and their struggles.

The ages are now known. They’re not children.

Well apparently they’re all desperate…..yeah ok.

And all the while areas around the U.K. are turning into complete shit holes.

And who's at fault for that? The two people who died on the boat? They deserve ti be laughed at and have people rejoice in their deaths, do they?

cantgardenintherain · 03/05/2026 19:24

Utterly disgusting of them OP. Only low life think like that .

I’m not surprised the conversation has got heated given the blatant racism on this thread

This thread is about People who have died

I know that but how does ranting and swearing at people make them take a look at themselves and their prejudices?

What Facebook group are you in in which they laugh about dead children, and why are you still in it?

She told you. It’s on the itv new website. It’s the same all over Facebook. It’s a cesspit. Why is your instinct to blame the OP for coming across these vile comments instead of condemning the racism at the heart of the comments and reactions?
