Been to the allotment this morning, which has flourished in the two weeks I was away! Brought some sweet peas home with me and now the living room smells delicious 😋

Parents are coming over for a cuppa later and I picked up some scones while I was out. Hopefully it will still be nice enough to sit out in the garden ☕

Have a relaxing Friday all 💕

bedfrog · 05/06/2026 13:39

It was good thanks @martha79 I mainly painted some pottery that had been fired while I was taking a break
I feel you on the wobbly mornings. I start to feel better as the day goes on. I think its to do with blood pressure and dehydration for me.
Love sweet peas @Swanhildeand I'm very envious of your having an allotment
Well I've been briefly out today and now my neck pain is starting to flare up again. Feel like I can't do anything! Sometimes just walking around triggers it and it's so painful it feels like a cruel joke. Ouch!!!

ValleyClouds · 05/06/2026 13:56

Nice day for me today ! Celebrating a friends birthday later.

TodayIsatrickyone · 05/06/2026 14:00

Afternoon all 👋

Yay for no more eye drops @TeaAndStrumpets

@martha79 an afternoon napping with a cat sounds perfect. My wobbly morning was spent napping with a dog 😊

Scones in the garden sound perfect @Swanhilde

@bedfrog Sorry about the neck pain, I feel you on that! Its so frustrating when you try to do something and pain kicks in. Hope you can get some relief.

@ enjoy your celebrations @ValleyClouds

A very quiet day here after a rather rubbish one yesterday where several things went wrong literally one after the other and it was just too much. I’m not coping well emotionally with anything extra right now 😕

Anyway today is another day and I’m focussing on resting as much as I can. DH’s birthday tomorrow ( a big one) so hoping we can give him a nice day even though celebrations might be a little more low key than I’d have liked.

JewelleryCat · 05/06/2026 14:07

I’m sure whatever you do for his birthday tomorrow, he will love @TodayIsatrickyone

Bluebellsandwishingwells · 05/06/2026 14:35

Hello all!
Catching up over a late lunch.
Glad your counselling appointment went well @martha79 Mine is next week and I’m thinking up all sorts of reasons not to go! There’s so much to discuss, I think I need to book in for like five years and can only afford a few months.
The drain autopsy is still making me laugh @TeaAndStrumpets
Have overall felt rather teary this week but it is my way of coping. Menopause was especially awful as crying gave me horrendous headaches so I literally lost it as an outlet. In some way, I’m glad it’s back.
Had a big day trip this week (12 hours out of the house) it knocked me sideways. Really underlined fact that my old dashing around solo life is over as I couldn’t have done half of it alone. I have such bad leg pain at mo, plus weakness and it’s really triggered my anxiety. I’m struggling so much with that. It’s scary to be outside my usual route as I imagine collapsing and someone having to get me home or just stepping over me!! But it was eventually fun, once I sort of leant into it, new things to see and do. Went slowly!
Hope everyone has a calm and restful weekend. We certainly deserve it 🤗
xx

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/06/2026 14:59

I' ve been pronounced OK by the consultant hurrah so I'll get some specs next week.

Reading about all the sore necks etc with great sympathy! I managed to hurt my shoulder, neck, hip, knee and ankle this afternoon 🙄DH is incredulous.....I managed to do all that just getting out of the car in the car park (or trying to!!) Not safe to be let out.

martha79 · 05/06/2026 15:16

I know what you mean about the counselling @Bluebellsandwishingwells - I noticed the other day that the calendar invites mine has sent me are set to recur every week forever and it does currently feel like they'll be necessary 😅

Have emerged from napping now but this was a very cosy cat.

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness Thread 8.. plodding on gently...
Dozymoo42 · 05/06/2026 15:19

Afternoon all😊

Hope you are all having a nice Friday!

I’ve had a little win for myself today, I left the house alone and travelled to the docs on the bus! I’m so relieved I have finally done it haven’t left the house alone since before my crash in April so was a little apprehensive but all was fine even managed to meet my DM and stepdad for a cup of tea in a local cafe 🥰

danglethedingle · 05/06/2026 15:56

I've been to Waitrose, which doesn't sound much, but our nearest one is 15 miles away.

I drove, there and back, which I am quite proud of myself for doing, as I have never been to this particular town before. I have lost a lot of confidence driving, and will go miles out of my way to avoid motorways.

This was just to get some 100% spelt flour sourdough, I bought a months worth. I managed to spend £40 on other bits and bobs, but in Waitrose that doesn't take too long!

It was lovely to get out of the house, even if its just for shopping.

Yay us for our wins @danglethedingle well done you 💐

TodayIsatrickyone · 05/06/2026 16:23

Ahh well done to all those who’ve managed trips out and solo outings! It’s great to celebrate these achievements 👏

Ive only been to hospital/ Dr appointments
& the osteopath since the stroke and really want to manage a trip out tomorrow for DHs birthday even if it’s just coffee but he wants to play it by ear and just see how the day goes so no pressure. DD has helped me wrap and organise gifts ( in between A levels!) and has collected a small cake today so there will definitely be cake and a takeaway involved!

Fab news for the all clear @TeaAndStrumpets

And what a gorgeous cosy cat @martha79

Oh la la... I love a Waitrose mooch. We don't have one in our town anymore. When I had counselling years ago, there was one nearby in that town. It used to be my treat after pouring my heart out. I do the odd online order now but it's not the same as a mooch. Enjoy your treats!

I am back home after battling Friday traffic. I'm in bed .with an ill advised beer.

I am going to watch too much TV and then see what we can have for tea. Shopping coming tomorrow so I will have to improvise. I'm too tired to be bothered.

I am tempted with ordering a chippy tea but my lazy ex gave DS one already this week. He only has to cook once a week for him and he usually goes to the chippy. It does my head in because that's the only takeaway we can have for DS plus he shouldn't have it often but it means I can't have a night off from cooking much. Sigh. Suppose chips twice in one week isn't the end of the world. I could pretend we're on holiday 🙈

Lovely cat @martha79
@Dozymoo42 well done!
@danglethedingle I always preferred Waitrose because the aisles are wider...Asda used to make me feel trapped!
@TodayIsatrickyone hope you all enjoy celebrating! Also @ValleyClouds nice to see friends
@bedfrog sorry about the neck ..it's the worst.
@Bluebellsandwishingwells you are being very brave venturing out. Don't worry about collapsing, just remember to wear your best pants 😊
@MewithME I think we've nearly got a full house, sorry if I forgot anyone
@Swanhilde seems a good moment for a round of hot drinks, maybe @JewelleryCat can assist!

Love to all x

Swanhilde · 05/06/2026 17:33

Happy to oblige @TeaAndStrumpets

And @bedfrog the allotment is a community one where I volunteer. I couldn't possibly look after one on my own, my little garden is enough. But it's nice to go once a week and potter and socialise in the fresh air 😊

Peppermint tea please!

TodayIsatrickyone · 05/06/2026 18:52

Oh a decaf please @Swanhilde The allotment sounds so lovely. My DH would love something like that though our garden/ jungle keeps him busy.

Im lying on the sofa being sat on by a sausage! I swear she does it to stop me moving when I need to rest!
My ‘I’m not overdoing it today’ turned into ‘I’ll just try these summer clothes on’ as I’d ordered a few new summery dresses & bits in different sizes as my weight has fluctuated lately.
Cue painful arm and shoulder now and it’s a bit early for the meds or I’ll be asleep before dinner! I’d planned to try a couple today and a couple tomorrow but no I pushed on 🙄 But today has been calmer than yesterday and I’ll take that.

Don't feel guilty @MewithME if you opt for the chippy. One week won’t hurt I’m sure and that would wind me up too when your ex only has one dinner to provide 🙄

Have a peaceful evening all.

Oh I hear you about trying things on! If I'm going out for eg an appointment I nowadays get everything out the day before. There is so much standing about looking in drawers etc. It just raises my heart rate. Also my clothes are packed away in so many places, I'm sure they'll turn up years later, but they are invisible right now, I literally put everything together and hang it all on a clothes hanger, even underwear and socks or tights, then it's a very quick turnaround the next day.
In a similar vein, sorting laundry is my nemesis - too much bending and my arms get tired.

martha79 · 06/06/2026 04:12

Camomile tea for me I guess, thank you. Awake at stupid time but not really been to sleep as I found out last night that I'm going to have to move house 😭 Long story, I'm not being rushed out (rented house) - but will need to start making plans. Obviously my brain's spent the night swapping between trying to problem solve and catastrophising ☹️

ValleyClouds · 06/06/2026 08:54

Oh I’m sorry to hear that @martha79 I hate waking in the small hours - hope you find somewhere new without much delay

Lovely meal out last night chilling today

Oh how miserable. Even if you find somewhere even nicer it's just such an upheaval, and so physically and mentally tiring. Do you have a lot of stuff?

I hate being awake in the middle of the night. Its never the time for optimism, and problems are easier to solve if you're not exhausted.

Swanhilde · 06/06/2026 09:28

Oh @martha79 that is not what you want to hear. Camomile tea on it's way to you ☕

Day if rest here. It's been pouring with rain so I will stay tucked up in bed with a decaf coffee and my knitting 🧶

The cats are not impressed with the change in the weather 😿😿

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/06/2026 09:44

Morning all! So gloomy and drizzly here.

To add to our visitor from France in August we had a phone call from an old friend who's lived in Australia for decades, and is also going to come over that month. Not staying here I hope! DH explained my situation so they'll probably see me briefly then go out for a meal. Friend is very loud and full of crazy anecdotes... it will be a long lunch. His wife is lovely (needs to be)

It was funny (but not really) the old friend was casually googling and found an obituary for DH 3rd or so cousin we've never met. Unusual surname and same age and Christian name, died in a car crash. He panicked and rang an old UK friend who reassured him he'd seen DH the previous weekend. Nice of him not to want to intrude on my grief!

I was so tired yesterday after going out I was twitching and buzzing, and crashed out trying to read my audiobook. Will have to rewind! I've read it in book form before but I'm enjoying having a narrator to savour every word.

Hope everyone can have a good weekend.

@Swanhilde you are so creative!

I do have quite a lot of stuff. I'm very much on 'mates rates' for the rent here so expecting to have to downsize.

Added stress last night/ this morning by not being able to get hold of my dad - turns out his mobile has died but was briefly panicky about that, especially as he's been in hospital fairly recently.

Was meant to be at a musical rehearsal this morning for the little group I run (I was planning to just show up, hand out music, make the tea) but have embarrassingly just cried all over the chap who'd offered me a lift and decided I can't manage it.
