I do have quite a lot of stuff. I'm very much on 'mates rates' for the rent here so expecting to have to downsize.

Added stress last night/ this morning by not being able to get hold of my dad - turns out his mobile has died but was briefly panicky about that, especially as he's been in hospital fairly recently.

Was meant to be at a musical rehearsal this morning for the little group I run (I was planning to just show up, hand out music, make the tea) but have embarrassingly just cried all over the chap who'd offered me a lift and decided I can't manage it.

💕

MewithME · 06/06/2026 14:28

I'm sorry @martha79 Take it as it comes if you can. First priority to try and rest a bit I think? Regroup. Gather as Kate Winslet used to say x

I will try and heed my own advice. Despite visible giving me a 5, I'm in loads of pain, feeling exhausted by doing anything and I think it's stress. I'm worried about work stuff. Busy day tomorrow so I must rest as much as I can today.

Going to watch ep6 of Rivals!

Definitely resting. Have done a couple of registrations with rental sites, then friend dropped in for a cuppa with the leftover cakes from the rehearsal. In bed now although still feeling too wired to nap.

Oh Bless you, what stressful news, no wonder it’s knocked you for six somewhat.
Definitely give yourself some time to process everything and then make a plan of what to do next when you’ve allowed yourself some time. I find when I’m too wired to nap, ( currently!) some kind of gentle distraction ( audiobook, music, meditation, calming TV) is best.

Sorry to all those having tricky days, sounds like rest all round is a good plan for today.

I have positive news for a change! I finally left the house for something other than hospital/ GP or osteopath! First time since early April 👏

DHs ‘big’ birthday today. A slow morning with him opening cards/ gifts and DS FaceTimed. Then we opted for a quick lunch at a little local fancy bakery type place that does nice coffee and amazing sandwiches. We have a lovely cake at home for later so this seemed a good option.

I was pretty anxious how I’d cope as sensory overload is worse post stroke and it’s a rainy Saturday so everywhere is busy but wore my loop earplugs and I actually coped better than I expected so I’m rather proud of myself, especially after a couple of very emotional days this week.

Im now tired so resting in bed, DH is happy watching cricket, DD chilling after exams ( only one left!) and we still have cake and a nice takeaway to look forward to later.

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/06/2026 15:52

Sounds like a perfect day @TodayIsatrickyone ! Well done to all the family for making it so enjoyable.

I am still in my dressing gown, I was so jittery when I got up I decided on a chilled day today. I had a long phone call with DD2 who had a very good trip away. DGD spent all four days believing Mummy was on a plane and was excited to spot her overhead quite often. They live not far from an airport lol.

SIL is a deep dyed cricket fan, he's travelled all over to see matches.
It seems a lot more civilised than football!

TodayIsatrickyone · 06/06/2026 16:30

A chilled day sounds good @TeaAndStrumpets and that’s so sweet your little granddaughter thought mummy was on a plane the whole time 😊

DH is happy to watch any sport really but myself and DD are completely non sporty so he often gets outvoted or constantly asked ‘how long is it on for?’ 😂 He does like the chilled back nature of cricket though and its far too wet for gardening today.

Downside of lunch is part of a filling came out! It’s fine for now but will have to phone dentist and add that to my appointment list which I could do without.
I was just celebrating being signed off from early discharge team too this week and looking forward to having less appointments! They’ve been incredibly helpful but all require recovery time afterwards.

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/06/2026 16:51

@TodayIsatrickyone I dread that happening! Mine are so old I live in fear. DH is forever losing fillings but he seems to have fragile teeth. He is fanatical about using interdental brushes and sees the hygienist every three months whereas it's once a year for me. Good job at 80 quid a time. Our dentist is NHS but their hygienist is private so we just pay up.

TodayIsatrickyone · 06/06/2026 19:02

@TeaAndStrumpets think it’s the first I’ve lost but hoping I don’t lose the tooth too as it’s a bit fragile… more filling than tooth! I’m quite good at seeing the hygienist regularly too but yes it’s rather expensive! I justify it by saying I don’t go out much 😂

My goodness I must have saved an absolute fortune over the years!

Lucky too our dentist is NHS at least!!

ValleyClouds · 07/06/2026 08:59

Morning all

i have REALLY weak teeth, like worried about dentures bad Sad

Quiet day today

Swanhilde · 07/06/2026 09:35

I am gearing myself up to spend an hour in the garden. Need to tackle the bindweed that has taken over a corner while we were away and prop up a couple of casualties from the strong winds we've had. DH will assist and I will set an alarm! ⏰

This afternoon will be rest and a shower, and then it's left over cottage pie for tea 😋

But first I will have a mindful coffee ☕

Have a peaceful Sunday all 💕

MewithME · 07/06/2026 09:44

Morning all. I have to go to an event today for my son. I'm feeling very buzzy in my body, and anxious about whether I'll be able to get a seat etc.

How do you deal with this when you look ok so nobody would assume you need a seat? .I've never thought about sunflower lanyards or anything. They tend to be assumed as autism I think anyway.

Going to try and get there early but not sure who else will try and get there early too! Not sure if it'll be packed at the venue or not.

The organiser was very nice by email but just breezy...as in get there early and hopefully you'll get a seat. 🙈

Disability sucks doesn't it? I sometimes use a stick but I only really use it in the outdoors, on uneven ground etc. or bad days. It's a proper outdoor walking stick. I think I still struggle with the idea of using one in public and not sure I want to use one just to give some signal that I have some mobility issues.

ValleyClouds · 07/06/2026 10:09

@MewithME my friend uses an outdoor walking stick - never seen her get any hassle for it or discrimination. Disability does indeed suck but you really need to give no fucks what anyone else might think Flowers

Swanhilde · 07/06/2026 10:22

I've given up caring about using my sticks. I used to hide them in photos but now I'm not bothered and have accepted that they are a part of my identity now 😘

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/06/2026 10:51

Morning all I think I'll have a mindful cup of tea and listen to my audiobook.

DH is driving 40 miles to deliver some baby stuff that was left with us last weekend by DD2. Her pregnant cousin lives miles away from all of us so we'll leave it at her Mum's house to await her next visit. All these late babies in the family! Her own Mum was nearly 40 when she had her so huuge gap between the generations.
More common these days I imagine. You either have career then baby but have money for childcare, or have baby young and get career later (if you can) so are quite skint when the children are young. No right way.

Several of our friends are geriatric child minders!

JewelleryCat · 07/06/2026 10:56

@MewithME I’ve never used them but I think there’s a walking stick but you unfold it and there’s a little stool and perch on it like a chair, might help for next time if there’s no seating at events. Do they have a designated area like cinemas do?

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/06/2026 11:00

Totally get it @MewithME as I used to be the same re sticks when I was first ill but over the years I’ve just had to get over it tbh and same with using a wheelchair/ scooter nowadays.

It does serve as a visual reminder to others that you need to sit down and I’ve always found at school events, one of the staff would often notice and find me a seat which actually was a positive.
Plus I promise, if you take it, no one else will bat an eyelid anf it might just help.

I think it's just a bar area/flexible space. Never been before. I think that's the anxiety...hate not knowing what to expect.

Yes maybe I should get a folding stick. Too late for today. I'll just have to see what I can do. I have one of those telescopic portable chairs I take on holiday but a venue might not like it if I use it. I'll probably get a seat it is just the unknown.

OP posts:
ValleyClouds · 07/06/2026 11:12

It really depends on the venue with those perching stools, I’m going somewhere on Friday and the information said they were specifically banned, I think that people using them in standing only areas creates a hazard. Obviously it depends on the setup at the event.

Like you say, all you can do for today is get there early and I’m sure it will be okay if you’re in plenty of time.
I always get anxious when I don’t know the set up too.
