My (adult) children are away for the night, so I’m home alone with my dogs, they are sleeping after running around off lead in a secure field. I’m enjoying the solitude and quiet.

@bedfrog my first thoughts went to Thyroid like the others. When my current immunotherapy destroyed my thyroid these were my symptoms. Did they do both TSH and T4/T3? The latter isn't often done but can show if there are some issues.

@TeaAndStrumpets I loved the 90's short hair fashion for women. It was almost like a fine scissor cut but all one length. Combined with a very heavy eyeline job and hooped earrings it was 👍🏻. I was only a wee nipper at the time but remember my mum having this kind of cut. It was just plain but oozed sophistication to me at the time.

I think it's a real test of the hair stylist's cutting skills too, rather than a blow dry that disguises a multitude of sins!

Those dog exercise fields are such a nice idea!

Evening all. I'll get a new thread sorted in a bit 🙂

Have we enough left for this evening chatterboxes?

I kept doing it too soon before 😁

I thought I'd rested today and just done a few chores but my visible gadget disagrees. I think I'm in PEM/crash so usual chor s have exhausted me quickly. I did watch a film this afternoon and didn't get up untill very late but doing change of sheets and tidying kitchen seems to have been a lot today.

Bloody bloody work tomorrow 😭😭😭

@Oioiqueen I had short hair in the nineties. I loved it. It's now the longest I ever had it aged 51...but that's because I can't find a decent hairdresser that's not a noisy and torturous salon.

I forgot to say .. I had a lovely salon for a bit right next to my work. They did quiet appointments and v gentle atmosphere. Then the two women left and a bloke appeared there instead. I wasn't keen on a male hairdresser but out of ideas for an alternative I booked an appointment. Well ..I only managed to turn up a week early 🙈

So I ended up cancelling the appointment. But was kind of glad in the end as I didn't take a liking to the chap. He wasn't very friendly. I'm probably not cool enough.

It’s such a low effort walk for me, and super fun for them. I can’t afford to do it every week but it’s great for every few weeks or when I don’t have the spoons to take them for a proper walk.

TeaAndStrumpets · 14/06/2026 06:26

Morning all!

Up for a wee at 4am, managed to stay in bed until 6 but no getting back to sleep.

It's such a nice morning here. I should do something useful really. I'll probably just read the paper and roll my eyes a lot.

MewithME · 14/06/2026 07:12

Morning @TeaAndStrumpets that's annoying. I'm awake early too. I need new blackout curtains.... another job I haven't got round to.

I'm having another half hour before I must get up for work. Urgh. Work on Sundays should be banned! At least in my case 😁

Have a good day everyone. Wish @Swanhilde was up...I'm having fantasy about someone bringing me a coffee instead of me having to drag myself downstairs!

Morning all, hope work goes ok @MewithME

Have woken up with really achy hips which is probably a combination of stress and too much time slumped on the sofa. Planning to have a quiet day - trying to convince my brain that there's little I can usefully do on the house hunting front on a Sunday and maybe I could just rest and do some nice things instead?

Oioiqueen · 14/06/2026 09:00

@MewithME I hate women's hairdressers. It was always something that had to be done rather than enjoyed. I always felt awkward making small talk for an hour. Then your usual leaves who you are ok with and then you get some random and it starts all over again. Whereas I went to the barbers, explained the situation. He quickly asked how I was getting on with the treatment in 30 seconds and then we chatted about running and marathons for the remaining 15 mins. Fantastic no pity no mindless chit chat and in and out.

bedfrog · 14/06/2026 09:15

@Oioiqueen the barber sounds fab. My dh intentionally doesn't go to one of our local barbers because he talks too much!!! 😅

Also my thyroid is fine. My body is allegedly working optimally according to the many blood tests I've had. I even looked up borderline levels for thyroid hormones online just in case the nhs were too generous, and my levels are all still perfect!!! Which is good but annoying it isn't a solution.

@MewithME can't believe you have to work on a Sunday- ugh!!

I think it'll be quiet here today, i suspect most people were up watching the world cup at 2am. Lots of flags about and a pub near to us had extended their licensing hours last night to play the football on their tv and had a live bagpiper!! Thankfully we didn't hear it!

Garden centre today with dh. That's about it (oh and knitting, of course. Doing a 50s style bolero/cardigan now)

I've started reading terry pratchett. Anyone a fan?

Oioiqueen · 14/06/2026 09:22

@bedfrog that sounds frustrating when there isn't an obvious cause for it all.

Yes I can imagine some talk too much 😂

MewithME · 14/06/2026 10:22

That was why this salon was such a find. They do quiet appointments with no chat!

@MewithME would a home hairdresser be easier? Then you can explain what you want, you’re in your own space and if you feel uncomfortable, you can ask them to leave

TodayIsatrickyone · 14/06/2026 11:35

Not a fan of the random chit chat at hairdressers either. I’m lucky I’ve had the same hairdresser for years so she’s more of a friend now and I do enjoy catching up as I don’t go often. She’s had a couple of maternity leaves where I went elsewhere and remembered why I only ever book the same person!

Also does anyone else find it hard when they ask things like ‘ So what are you doing for the rest of the day?’ Someone asked me recently and I was flummoxed as how do you explain that all you’ve done in order to make the appointment is rest and you’ll need to rest for some time afterwards! So you literally won’t be doing anything! I think I just mumbled something about coffee and the garden. Maybe next time if it’s someone I won’t see again I’ll just make random crap up that I’d like to do! 😂

Swanhilde · 14/06/2026 12:01

I'm here now @MewithME if you'd like a coffee? It's pants that you have to work a Sunday ☕

Been to the garden centre for breakfast this morning. Bought the compost I need to pot up the tomatoes and cucumbers, plus a couple of plants fell into the trolley. Resting in the sunshine now ☀️

Will, with DH's help, sort the toms and cucs this afternoon. Then it's a shower and left over enchiladas this evening 😋

Have a peaceful Sunday all 💕

ValleyClouds · 14/06/2026 12:18

Morning All

Small lie in today so that was nice

Hairdressers! Mine is a childhood friend but she rarely does as asked and it can get frustrating, I’ve considered moving on but she understands my disability needs and comes to the house, so there’s pros and cons there

martha79 · 14/06/2026 13:04

The hairdresser chat is so interesting - I haven't been to one in 20 years, always found it an uncomfy experience between the sitting still for ages, chatting, noise etc. I found one guy I liked, and then I moved cities and just never bothered! I've cut and dyed it into all sorts of shapes and colours myself over the years. Definitely settled with short these days though.

Just had an unexpected hour on the phone with my mum - she can be quite difficult so I tend to keep things to text instead but it was actually ok. Tired out from conversation-steering though, just settling down on the sofa and trying to find an afternoon movie.

MewithME · 14/06/2026 13:36

I'm still at work but it's a lull now and hoping to escape early!

I watched that Is this thing on?' yesterday. It was nice. I think Laura Dern was a bit miscast to be a mother of 20 year olds but she is a good actor.

I enjoyed Richard Jewell on Netflix too recently. Sam Wotsit is brilliant. I always love him.
