Thanks @JewelleryCat I had an electric one but it was so loud and then it broke! I do need to get a new one though I suppose. That one looks good but I can't do the twisting motion and hold it closed so its the awful electric one I'd need Sad

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/06/2026 20:26

@ValleyClouds sorry your outing was spoiled. Just because we're disabled doesn't mean we are incapable. Can you try somewhere else next time?
@bedfrog the birds here tend to start their rave between 2.30 & 3am. Noisy little blighters. Don't mind when they start around 8am though.

Frustrating week for me. I stopped the steroids nearly a month ago. The weakness is gradually getting worse/coming back despite the 2 part Rituximab infusion back in Feb & March. Emailed my rheumatologist today. Awaiting advice.

I’ve never used an electric one so can’t help with any sort of brand. Maybe there are quieter ones available?

@CoffeeBeansGalore I’m a bit restricted by wheelchair access - a lot of the salons round here have a ridge or a step, the place I would rather go and did go before the chair I wouldn’t get the chair in the door

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/06/2026 20:42

@ValleyClouds that's frustrating.

Morning all,
A bit sore and tired today. New osteopath lady was lovely yesterday and treatment very relaxing but definitely feeling more sore than usual which I know can happen sometimes the next day.

Have got my mum popping over for a quick visit later so just going to rest til then and take it very easy today. She has been unwell too lately so we haven’t seen each other for a while so will be lovely to finally see her in person and give her a hug.

Have a peaceful day all 😊

TeaAndStrumpets · 04/06/2026 09:20

Morning all!

It was freezing last night, I lay there wrapped around my hot water bottle. It has been lovely only having a summer duvet but looks like the higher tog one is called for.

For ages I've been getting shocking heartburn after eating pasta. I've gradually reduced/ changed the ingredients of the topping. Sadly I now realise it's the brown rice pasta. I never eat brown rice itself but for some stupid reason I assumed it would be fine. I eat rice crackers made from wholegrain rice with no problems, so maybe a tiny amount is OK. Another ingredient off my list.

Nothing much else to report. My neck feels looser but my hips feel tighter after the osteopath on Monday. Back on Monday so hope for more progress.

DD2 is home tonight after being on a plane for four days lol. Back to the singing.

@ValleyClouds i wonder if you could send emails to all the local salons (not just nail) and ask if they have access?

Hope everyone has a good day.

Yes I do feel it more the next day, then much better a day or so later. I think my sciatica needs more attention...it's so difficult to find a comfy sitting position. I've abandoned the sofa and have an adjustable garden chair so I can keep my feet flat on the floor.
Glad you can see your Mum.

TodayIsatrickyone · 04/06/2026 09:43

@TeaAndStrumpets Yes I’m looking forward to the much better feeling hopefully tomorrow!

Hope the osteopath can help with the sciatica, not being able to find a comfy sitting position isn’t fun. I’m a bit similar on our sofa though it’s improving a bit with time and certain cushions in certain places! Have to carry a V pillow around 🙄

I have so many cushions! We really need new sofas but the thought of going to a big store to try them is exhausting just to think about!

TodayIsatrickyone · 04/06/2026 09:57

Yes that’s the problem isn’t it especially something like a sofa as you really need to try them.

My MIL was struggling a bit with her sofas, but DH had a lucky find when driving past a charity shop and saw a single fabric chair that was exactly what she needed. Much more supportive, better for her back and she can get in and out of it no issues unlike her old squishy sofa! She’s always saying how much she likes her ‘new’ chair! Still has the sofa so she can lie on it but this is better for sitting upright.

ValleyClouds · 04/06/2026 10:13

Yeah that’s a good idea @TeaAndStrumpets

morning all

terrible abdominal pain this morning have taken something - hopefully it will wear off quickly

martha79 · 04/06/2026 10:15

Morning all. Sorry to hear about your experience with the salon @ValleyClouds, that's awful.

I'm just really tired today, but got a busy day at work so grabbing moments to lie down when I can.

I keep looking at Parker Knoll wing chairs on eBay. I thought if one turned up locally I could buy it and try it for a while. Then if it's as comfortable as people say I could buy a new one . They are still made in the same style. Seems a roundabout way to choose a new chair but better than buying an unknown quantity. Still weighing it up. I just don't want to make a bad decision. We once bought a leather recliner which looked lovely but it was just the wrong height for my neck and I ended up stiffer than ever!

Yesterday I thought I might try a reintroduction of cows milk in a coffee, about 50ml. Not a good outcome. So I won't be doing that again.

Sympathy! When I was first tested at the hospital it showed up a cow's milk allergy so I cut it out for a few weeks. When I reintroduced it was dramatic! Part of me wishes I had never dropped it, but I suppose we'll never know.

danglethedingle · 04/06/2026 11:43

@TeaAndStrumpets I bloody love a latte and slice of carrot cake as well.

It always seems to be the way, although thinking about it, if I was intolerant to something I didn't eat I'd be unlikely to find out. You never know, I might be allergic to whelks, so that's a lucky escape!

bedfrog · 04/06/2026 12:07

Knackered today, too much activity the past 2 days. Have a ceramics class this evening so I'm hoping I'll feel better later and can still go.

Dh and I both slept badly last night so he is struggling through his workday and I'm lounging about feeling useless.

Our veg patch is coming along wonderfully though!!

Ha yes, although I remember going out to the pub as a teenager and (this dates me) there would be chaps selling jars of seafood from a basket. I was happy to eat whelks! Couldn't face one now and I am horribly allergic to alcohol 😃

CoffeeBeansGalore · 04/06/2026 13:48

Rheum consultant emailed back. He'd asked for an appt to see me a while ago apparently. This morning I was emailed an appt in a month. Unfortunately no suggestions for anything in the meantime.

Swanhilde · 04/06/2026 14:14

Afternoon all. Have been for acupuncture this morning so feeling zen 🧘🏼‍♀️

Am resting in bed with my knitting and am determined to finish the damn jumper before it's too warm to wear it 😂

Have a peaceful afternoon all and enjoy your ceramics class this evening @bedfrog . You've reminded me that I must go and pick up my last bits at some point 🔥

bedfrog · 04/06/2026 16:55

Thank you @Swanhilde was it you who was posting those photos of the lovely ceramics you've made a while ago on here? Mine aren't that good but it gets me out of the house BlushGrin

Aw, thanks @bedfrog 😊

Would love to see yours too ❤️ Haven't heard from our resident ceramicist @FurForksSake recently 🤔

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/06/2026 12:10

Afternoon all!

Quiet day here so far. After lunch I go to see the ophthalmologist then I should get the go ahead for specs. So relieved to be able to stop the eye drops. In total I've had to put them in 4x a day for 2 months which is a lot! DH mostly did it for me because he has a better aim but I've done quite a few. I did my final one last night and achieved a perfect bullseye!

Hope you are all well.

martha79 · 05/06/2026 12:39

Afternoon all. How was the class @bedfrog?

Fingers crossed for being able to get specs @TeaAndStrumpets and hooray for the end of the eye drops!

It's the weekend for me. Little bit of music teaching this morning (nice but a bit of a struggle, I seem to be in a pattern of wobbly mornings and better later in the day at the moment), done some washing and online yoga. Just got into bed with Miranda's book which I'm quite enjoying. And a cat who approves of afternoon naps.
