Went to see my 91 year old great aunt who I have not seen in person for several years.

Within minutes of arriving aunt told me I look like I have lost weight. I have but only about half a stone not intentionally but also it’s not a drastic amount.

I said I may have lost a bit biting my tongue not to say stress will do that.

Aunt followed up with I thought you had been on the mounjaro jabs. I mean wow! The older generation really shoot from the hip.

Many of the comments on here deserve a smack in the chops, but this is truly, truly vile.

It is truly vile, unbelievable tbh that a manager could make such an appalling comment and not be immediately reported, suspended and then sacked.

Whettlettuce · 02/05/2026 18:33

The other day I was walking in town eating a packet of scampi fries, I tripped up in the pavement 🙄 and a bloke in a white van shouted "oi luv, don't drop ya scampi fries ,because you really look like you could do with putting on weight " . Cheeky bastard, im clearly overweight.

Edited to add this

Not a human but a parrot. The house at end of my street has a very vocal parrot situated in the window. Whenever I walk past the bloody thing sings the McDonald's im loving it song from years. Ba da ba ba ba im loving it. 🤣

Night before going in for surgery following a cancer diagnosis my sister texted me ‘Have you even got cancer yet? If so is it localised?’

Another sister sent me a card saying:

”Sorry to hear you are so emotional about your health - it must be so hard for your family.”

openended · 02/05/2026 18:34

I've had a few over the years. Dh's aunt remarked how dh hadn't changed since we got married but it was a shame about me. I'd had 2 dc in quick succession and yes I had put on a lot of weight but I did lose it (slowly). The last time she saw me she remarked about how I looked so much better thinner and before I could chirp up my ds asked her if she was always rude or if she was getting worse with age. I tried and failed not to laugh.

The ones that rankle worse though have been related to my kids parentage. Dd2 had a stork bite birthmark as did dd1 and the midwife told me several times that this is more common in white infants. At first I did just say,' yes I'm aware, her sister had it too' but after a while I got annoyed and said dd2 was conceived in lockdown, her dad was very much her dad and I am fully pakistani thank you very much as she expressed surprise. Not all white people are the same shade so why would every asian person be? I had similar comments when dd1 was born blonde but she was a csection baby and tagged straight away so very much ours. Her hair colour changed and is auburn now but dh has several blondes in his family (all asian) and I have several redheads in mine.

It was.

I’ve just realised what it means 😮

Thebigarsedbitch · 02/05/2026 18:50

When visiting friends recently we had dinner one night with another couple, the friends of our friends. As we were about to leave the restaurant the wife suddenly said, apropo of nothing: "What do you think about these bloody immigrants? I'd shoot them dead as soon as they got off the boats, I would!" She literally shocked us into silence.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 02/05/2026 18:53

My friend drunkenly once told my husband that "you should really feel or be apologetic about how little you bring in terms of family support to the relationship, your poor wife constantly has to ask her parents and yours do nothing" (for context his dad is in a hospice and his mum recently died, so no, he doesn't bring much family support for the kids, but also no he should not apologise for this....) wild.

Nogimachi · 02/05/2026 18:55

That’s appalling and very sad. For some reason (though not at all the same) it put me in mind of the time my friend’s son, who was about three, saw my husband approaching in the park, ran up to him, shouted “YOU’RE A POO!” and ran off. As he said, that told him!

I don’t see anything wrong with what she said. She’s a very elderly lady, she obviously keeps abreast of current affairs and she was probably just making conversation with you. It’s not a big deal.

Same, I've lost a few pounds recently and a random neighbour who I barely know asked me the same thing - I took it as a compliment to be honest!!!! I must looks so good that it looks as if I've paid to look this way but I've actually got it for free!

My manager suggested we should modify the staff shower block at work to deal with the Polish/Romania staff. He said “It worked last time”.

What happened when you reported him @CrapGardener , because surely you reported such an appalling comment to his line manager?

Out shopping with my newborn (days old) and the girl serving me said 'are you gutted it's another girl' (I already had 3 in tow). I just quite honestly said 'no, should I be?'

And she wasn't the only person that asked that!

Unbelievable. That makes me really cross.

“Why are you wearing that silly little hat” I was standing in the queue at a checkout.
i was in the middle of chemotherapy, deathly pale, no eyebrows or eyelashes and not a hair on my head.

My God some people just can't help themselves so,so ignorant.💐

This has been a while ago. My in-laws friends discussing the benefits of Brexit. How Britain was finally going get immigration under control as all the immigrants were taking over the UK and it wasn’t the UK anymore. Then looked me straight in the eye and said “obviously not you - you’re a good immigrant”.

Are you an immigrant? If so I can see where he was coming from if he wanted to not have offended you because you could say there are good and bad immigrants - those who assimilate vs those who take part in rape gangs, for example.
If however you were born here omg.

I’m a bit omg that you have anything to do with your MIL @Nogimachi !

Not me but my grandmother who passed not ling ago.
I visited with my dd, grandmother looked her up and down and with a huge smile on her face asked “do you like your food?”

I’m surprised you found that offensive said to a baby/young child by an elderly person? It can’t have been meant in anything other than a loving way? Agree it would have been offensive if she’d said it to you!

It's @Nothankyov whose in laws are racist and @Nogimachi who is a racist apologist.
My DM and my DCs were all born abroad. They'd be productive members of society no matter how they got here.
Plenty of waste of space and criminals among white British people too.

Bloodorangekangaroo · 02/05/2026 19:38

A school mum said that women and girls are asking for it based on what there wearing. I never asked more did I respond to her. It’s probably the worst thing I’ve heard out of someone’s mouth to date.

I don’t live in the UK anymore but have been an immigrant the majority of my life. And no I can’t understand where they are coming from. It’s very offensive. But I understand that if you have never been an immigrant uou can “understand” their point of you.

Thank you for this message. My husband is British and if you ask my children they will tell you the same - they forget my side and my husband corrects them every time. I love the UK. It’s my home. It’s where i lived the longest and wouldn’t let anyone speak ill of it. But I remember waking up to the brexit referendum result and crying in bed (I read the result on my phone before I got up) and my husband holding me. I felt so unwelcome in a place that had been my home for 15 years at that point.

edited to say: it wasn’t my in laws it was my inlaws friends or should I say ex friends as they are no longer welcome at their house anymore

The worst comment I had was from my consultant. You were very poorly when you came in, we're surprised you made it.

That’s a reasonable comment from a medical professional whose job it is to explain how ill you were.

asdbaybeeee · 02/05/2026 19:50

My mum who’s always been 8 stone wet through had gained a little weight. We wer all sat together and she made a comment about being the second fastest person at the table. The others at the table were my healthily sized pre teens and me the 12 stone pie muncher.

Where does it say it was a baby/young child? Could have been a teenager for all you know.

You do realise it was a comment on the kid’s weight, right?
