As an American who didn't really care about the King coming over to meet with our idiot President, I must say they I am thoroughly enjoying King Charles roasting Trump at every opportunity. I have never been more grateful for British wit and delicate sarcasm in my life. Bravo Charles, keep it up.

Brahumbug · 29/04/2026 14:38

I am not a massive fan of the royal family, but Charles hasn't put a foot wrong this time.

MyThreeWords · 29/04/2026 14:46

Surely all he has to do is say his lines, smile politely and remember not to say FFS you mad orange wanker! out loud.
It's not that high a bar.

MyTrivia · 29/04/2026 14:46

🙄

NotDarkGothicMama · 29/04/2026 14:48

The White House has declared Trump king. I sense a serious case of crown envy.

God save the King!

I thought his speech to Congress walked a beautiful line between telling Trump he's a wanker and not overtly saying it.

Weeelokthen · 29/04/2026 14:49

I can feel charles cringing and clenching from over here. How does one deal with someone of such low intellect 😂

Agreed. It's like admiring the late queen for never saying anything, ever, other than a platitudinous speech someone else had written, or 'Have you come far?'

Well, we have no bar currently in the US so that makes him quite impressive, deserved or not.

I agree OP. It feels like his visit has lifted spirits as well, and we could all do with that.

Im no fan of the Royals, but if you listen to Charles' speech to Congress ( and at the Whitehouse) it's an absolute masterclass in subtle putdown. Well done Chas.

Mydogisagentleman · 29/04/2026 15:14

Haven't seen any coverage as we are in Spain.
I wouldn't piss on either if they were on fire

Pedallleur · 29/04/2026 15:32

Only a few weeks ago people on MN were demanding action re AMW by Charles. Now the King is celebrity du jour

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 29/04/2026 16:10

They are two different things. There are many things wrong with Monarchy, not least the way QEII used her position to shield her family from any scrutiny to the point where she ( and possibly the rest of them through their complicity) has put the entire institution in jeopardy and trashed her reputation. In that, Charles still needs to put his house in order. But at things like this-their actual job, which they could and should be able to do without taking the piss- they are pretty good at, having been trained from birth.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 29/04/2026 16:14

I love the sight of Charles in his evening dress with medals and sash and plain old Trumpypants next to him. I wonder if Don’s looking on eBay for some medals to wear.

CointreauVersial · 29/04/2026 16:18

I think His Majesty (or his speechwriters) did a fabulous job. Whether any of it sunk in with his half-wit host is another question.

100% this!

hes 78 - that’s 78 years of training. Any one of us could do the same if we had the benefit of 78 years of access to all the resources he has.

some idiot on the radio was wittering on about his ‘magic’ - it’s not bloody magic - there is nothing special about him.

audhdandme · 29/04/2026 16:20

You can keep him. Swap him for trump?

1apenny2apenny · 29/04/2026 16:37

Do people honestly believe that KC wrote that speech? He had lackeys to do that. He may have delivered it well, that’s his job with years of experience (along with ribbon cutting) so nothing amazing as far as I’m concerned.

Pay me what they get and give me all the privileges, I’ll do it and could do it and I could do the holiday in Barbados after, no probs.

Such a big deal being made if this. It’s actually embarrassing that the RF have entertained Trump more than any other president.

cholmondeleys · 29/04/2026 16:44

I did a double take @OneBusyFinch as you aged me by a year declaring KC3, on whose birthday I was born, is 78.

I am not a monarchist no any stretch but how dare that lowlife refer to him as Charles.
His Majesty or King Charles you orange fuckwit.

I don't know. That last bit has got to be quite an endurance challenge.

Boomer55 · 29/04/2026 16:55

I didn’t agree with him going just to pander to the manbaby. But, so far as it goes, Charles has done ok.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 29/04/2026 17:02

I don’t think everyone could do what he has done. I mean, look at Trump.
He would have to be an exceptional actor to deliver that speech with exactly the right intonation to give ‘wit and humour’ rather than insult.

I think he’s involved in the speech writing, I think he knows what he wants to say, and has skills that allow him to smile charmingly through with no hint of grinding his teeth.

Though I have a soft spot for him, because he was so courteous to Dora (?) Meghan Markle’s mum, at the wedding.
