X post with @MushMonster 😆

The only problem with the SoH is Trump's ships! The SoH had been perfectly fine for milennia before US arrived there.
Did you not follow this from the beginning? At least from February?

No need for sarcasm. Yes. I am aware of how things were before February. But Iran weren't in full control of the SoH then. There was freedom of movement for all. I can't see them just going back to that, can you?

Which is why no previous US administration launched a war against Iran. This was predicted by US analysts - and ignored by Trump.

They were in full control. Of their side anyway. It is territorial waters. Not international ( at the narrow bit).

Iran and Oman had to work together to manage shipping. Just as the UK and France manage the channel.

Ah. That's good to know. Thanks. So if the US buggered off, do you think they would go back to this except banning US and Israel ships. But what about UK and other countries with US bases that were used in the bombing.

It was not sarcastic. It was a full on intended question. A 100% real question.
I cannot get my head around how anyone can possibly think that US is needed in any way to deal in any positive light on the SoH. Particularly at this point of time. And it has been full out of question for me ages ago.
Sorry, do not take it personally to you.
But the mere question infurates me beyond measure.

I understand your rage with the US!

Efacsen · 06/05/2026 08:26

I'm not so sure either that everything will 'return to normal' ie the way it was before all the US/Israel shenanigans of the last 2 months

It's the reality of FAFO writ large and the genie of Iran flexing it's muscles over the Strait isn't going to helpfully just pop itself back in the bottle to save Trumps skin

Yes, it is with Trump's US indeed.

This is the point I was trying to get across albeit badly.

Llttledrummergirl · 06/05/2026 08:29

I stopped following this last week, hence my questions about congress stepping in at 60 days.

It appears Trump is still unchecked, he will continue to break destruction on the world, and at this point I can only assume that Americans are ok with this as every opportunity to rein him in is ignored.

Congress has allowed this, the Senate is allowing this, the American on the street is allowing this.

World leaders must cut America adrift while this nutcase is running amok.

MushMonster · 06/05/2026 08:30

Iran's toll, if it ever happens, or at least till the destruction caused is rebuilt, in all ME, would be $1-2 extra per barrel. Or so it has been published that the charge applied so far is. If we can actually believe anything published.
The $2 per barrel is less than peanuts compared to the effects of shortages and the massive current prices.

UK ships will be up to Iran or Oman to manage. The same was as Russian ships through the Channel.

Iran has not ratified UNCLOS, but Oman has.

If Iran refuses to allow innocent freedom of navigation as per UNCLOS, then that will be a matter for the UN. Not unilateral action by the US. The US has also not ratified UNCLOS.

So if Iran refuse to allow passage to UK ships, or interfere with them in Omani waters, then they send their official letter to the UN. Then the UN decide on what action. Usually sanctions on Iranian ships.

That is how it is supposed to work. It is reciprocal.

Gently, we don't really make personal attacks on this thread. Honestly. But I have noticed, as a relative newcomer, that there is the expectation of posters to be aware of information regarding what they are talking about. @SerendipityJane mentioned a while back, that for 47 years previously, the US administration had taken the advice of analysts that they would not be successful in trying to take over the SoH.

There's a lot of information/analysis on this thread that could really help you in understanding surrounding issues.

Well glad to hear it😁. Might be nice if other folk who have greater knowledge in this subject realize that others don't though and that's ok too.

I'm normally into gardening threads but as this Trump utter debacle is directly affecting the UK etc and subsequently me and my family, I've been following occasionally.

I just had a thought re these two US ships that went through was US military on board. I wonder is ownership is somehow connected to a mate of the Turds.

What an insurance scam that would be. A ship lost while under the protection of the Turd. Who would be paying out for that ?

Oh wait. Now Sky is reporting a French ship was attacked YESTERDAY in the strait. Wait a moment. Kegbreath said it was all a massive success.

Are we really at the point where Iranian news is more honest than the US Regime ?

Confirmed ships & flags (latest 24–48h)

  • U.S.-flagged vessels
  • CS Anthem (chemical tanker)
  • Alliance Fairfax (vehicle carrier)
  • → Both successfully transited/cleared the Strait with U.S. naval escort
  • Malta-flagged vessel
  • CMA CGM San Antonio (container ship)
  • Was transiting when attacked (so it definitely entered the strait)

PARIS, May 6 (Reuters) - French shipping group CMA CGM said on Wednesday that one of its vessels, the San Antonio, had been the target of an attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in injuries among crew members and damage to the vessel.

So Malta flagged but French owned.

Farrel lines Inc. A US subsidiary of Maersk Line.

No doubt delivering US made vehicles to a Gulf state. It is amazing how intertwined all these ships are. Almost as if people are using all sort of loopholes. No wait, we know they do that anyway.
