I sometimes walk to my nearest town in spring summer. I’ve got a perfectly good car and buses go there but I like putting iPod ear buds in and listening to a podcast or music. And stopping for a coffee or ice cream on the way. Very relaxing. People think I’m mad due to the distance though!

Treadcarefully11 · 19/04/2026 22:02

Drinking alcohol on trains. Absolute blissful relaxation.

Sex, lots of it. Unfortunately, I'm perpetually single.

Being part of a clique.

Spending time with men and forcing men to accept my presence in male dominated places. Granted, after experimenting with this "not all men" want the presence of a woman who doesn't want them "that way", they only need women "that way". I like to mess up the patriarchal norms. When a man admires this, I know he's at least half decent!

I enjoy being a non-conformist. No trad wifeying for me. No baking and crocheting, etc. No going out of the way to keep the house immaculate. No dimming down my personality.

Karaoke
Public speaking
Excel spreadsheets
Telling off other people's children
Driving on motorways
Going to the tip

Weeding. Garden clearance. Love it, I just take my brain out and get on with it, breeze on my face, listening to the birds in the distance. Luckily I love it as when move into the new home when it's habitable, I have nearly an acre of untouched for nearly 2 years garden to get through.

Reading that back, it's no wonder I've been single for so long, despite being intelligent, funny and attractive. Oh well. Haha!

tsmainsqueeze · 19/04/2026 22:03

Staying at home preferably alone but happens rarely.
Cleaning.
A beach and the sea, any weather.
A massive storm or a heavy rainy day.
Doing nothing or having nothing to do especially on a weekend with no plans.
As pp said reading poems and gherkins .

Perfect age gap! Yeah wasn't good enough to get beyond university levels though and now when I watch it I don't always get the referee calls exactly right. Only sport I was halfway good at, if you don't count the egg and spoon race in primary - just went hell for leather and didn't really care if the egg broke!

Oh walking is ace, I live near the Gower and it's made for walking or doing a Kate Bush dance across! We've equally have semi-good weather - you get dressed, ready to go out and open the front door and... torrential stair rods!

😆 🤣 😂 sack race here, always fell flat on my face! Oh well 🤭.
Never heard of gower, will look it up. Do love a good bit of Kate bush though. ❤️

Look up torwood castle, tappoch broch and the blue pool. Lovely walks pretty much on my doorstep. Xxx

Camping! With all the kids,( 5 of them) on a site that’s not much more than a field with a shower block and toilets! ( we do have electric hookups though)
Camping in the rain
Camping in a storm
Camping in this country
Bloody love Camping

You win! 🤣

spottybelly · 19/04/2026 22:10

Heavy rain. I lived in a hot, mainly rain-free country for almost 15 years and used to cry for the rain, I missed it so much.
Dark nights, winter.
Sprouts.
Complete silence. It soothes me. My brain is noisy constantly.
Intense exercise. I love that feeling of working physically hard.
Washing dishes. I have a dishwasher but only because it came with the house.
Days away / weekends away on my own. Happy to go for dinner and drinks by myself.
Cleaning.

I love my job.
To add: plus I'm a teacher, which is even weirder to some!

Edited

Nothing like a teacher who enjoy's the job and the children sure notice.
Anyone who does not should quit or retire!
Good on you!
I to enjoy working

beasmithwentworth · 19/04/2026 22:16

DC are older now but I used to get a real sense of satisfaction going through their hair with the Nit comb. Obviously I wasn’t over the mood that they had head-lice in the first place but when it happened I didn’t mind dealing with it (they did). A major infestation was particularly gratifying; knowing there were none left (until the next week 😩)

I was going to say weeding. There’s something really satisfying about pulling up a bit of couch grass and a long rhizome comes up with it bringing up a couple more clumps attached. Very therapeutic!

Flushitdown · 19/04/2026 22:27

Camping

Sitting in bed during the day

ArachneArachne · 19/04/2026 22:29

Wagner, drizzle, seeing my friends, very long novels, public speaking, exams, soggy chips.

I’m dealing with a winter heliotrope infestation and it can be deeply satisfying.

Cleaning and would rather cook at home than eat out

I think the same. I actively tune out moany colleagues.
I like parents evenings, too. Most parents are polite and very appreciative of what we do.

Silence, other people are always making noise, talking listening to music. I just like silence.

Sugar in my tea, most people look at me like I've asked for crack when I say can I have sugar please.

Goldrill · 19/04/2026 22:44

Spreadsheets. Nothing that isn't easier with a spreadsheet.

Being out for a run on my own in the pitch dark in the back end of nowhere.

Doing the weekly big shop on my own and taking absolutely hours to contemplate stuff.

I have fond memories of a holiday in Greece when the DC were small and I realised that one had yet another infestation. After a trip to the chemist, we sat in our little back garden in the sun combing through hair - I had much more time than the usual bedtime at home, and the bright light helped find them all 😂

Googling all as we speak - look up Worms Head - promise it's not a weird porno!

Working a night shift. I work in a care home and really enjoy spending time with the residents who want to chat at 3am . So much of their personalities are missed during the daytime routines etc. They are more likely to take their medication as well!
