A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I can only surmise that they believe he’s the best amongst them, and/or the rest realise it’s a poisoned chalice…

Winning the 2024 GE clearly came as a surprise to them - they are still not ready to govern…

Or he’s threatened the nuclear option.

@SapphireCasino

I was the accidental kisser (blush).

We've driven back from deepest Cornwall today, but I managed to watch some of Alexander's blustering on LK this morning before being dragged out of the door by DH. I'm still seething while attempting to catch up on the stuff I've missed today.

Roll on Thursday (which may or may not come with accidental kisses).

SapphireCasino · 03/05/2026 21:15

@DancingFerret LOL at accidental kisser

I think it's sweet 😂😚

I have ignored news today. I'm trying to sort out the general chaos in my flat.

I wasn't supposed to be here this long but given the state of everything, and personal circumstances, and the state of the market, I think it's time to act as if I'm staying

I still can't bring myself to spend a lot of money on things, though. At the moment it's a case of never knowing when I'll need it for other things, like with costs going up, or is it the case that it will be truly impossible to buy decent furniture later? Who knows? All things considered it just seems like I'm better off saving it.

As expected.

Sir Keir Starmer “won’t accept any deals” to leave Downing Street, allies have warned, as the prime minister braces for a Labour wipeout in elections on Thursday and fresh calls to resign.

Loyalists inside the government spoke out as analysts predicted the ruling party could suffer its worst performance in local election history, fuelling speculation among restive Labour MPs about Starmer’s political future and a potential leadership challenge.

“Keir won’t accept any deals, pacts or timetables,” said one ally, stressing the prime minister would resist any pressure to step down. “He’s focused on leading the country at this moment, and has a bold plan for how we strengthen Britain’s economic security.”

I don’t think he’ll ever go willingly but will others make a move anyway? Not sure

After everything I have read, I genuinely believe Burnham will run - mechanics aside.

The Telegraph are breaking some pretty surprising stories just now.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/ceef1f5d34a51380

More than 600,000 households received more in benefits last year than the average worker’s full time salary.

10 million individuals are on working age benefits - and about 1/3 of those 10 million people are in work, as people on here keep telling us, which will reduce their benefits / give them even more of a household income. And presumably some of those 10 million are in a household together.

600k households recieving so much: out of 10 million individuals (couldn't see number of households). Can't be less than 10% of workless households, and could be as much as 20%.

More than the average for full-time workers!

.The UK is doomed.

Where’s this “bold plan” been hiding? I imagine nobody told him about it. It never crossed his desk and in fact was probably withheld from him by civil servants.

He’s such a bell end. But then I hope this isn’t just spin. A really long and vicious fight to depose Starmer followed by a Labour civil war is exactly what we need for the summer months. Updates to read as you catch a tan and sip a cocktail. Interrupted only by bursts of laughter at headlines like Miliband: ‘I have the experience to lead my party to victory’ or Rayner vows fair taxes and high standards in public life.

DaffodilsandDillies · 03/05/2026 22:08

The times ,simultaneous headlines

Starmer 10 billion per year to reset with Europe and miltarry chief says no new spending until 2030..we are going backwards .

He is an utter bell end. Country before party - what utter bollocks - he would rather cling on than admit that it’s over.

There is nothing bold about this man of straw.

Albertroad · 03/05/2026 22:16

Bold plan my arse.

strawberrybubblegum · 03/05/2026 22:56

I'm hoping his bold plan is to call a general election.

So the support and help we have been waiting for re "are we going to get to go on our holiday this year ", is that airlines are now allowed to cancel flights.
When ? In what time frame they said we had plenty of fuel and a diverse source.

Many people don't book package holidays ? Inhave deadlines if when I can cancel hotels without penality !

DaffodilsandDillies · 04/05/2026 07:35

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame that tan and cocktail will be taken in the UK because we don't have any jet fuel security

DaffodilsandDillies · 04/05/2026 07:38

And no plans can be issued if we can't defend ourselves as a country.

I was reading over the weekend that Michael O'Leary has been pushing to start cancelling Ryanair flights and lobbying the government to do so. The govt is apparently going to allow airlines to do this quite far ahead, so that people can adjust their plans accordingly. I suspect that there will be consolidation on routes with lots of flights per day that aren't operating at full capacity and passengers from cancelled flights will be accommodated on other flights. If jet fuel is in short supply no airlines are going to want to fly planes that aren't full.

Ah, but we obviously wouldn't want to inconvenience the hoteliers of other countries by cancelling bookings we can't get to. Don't you know they need to make a living? British people should absorb that cost without complaint! And their employers should reimburse them. The UK is a rich country, after all.

That's the Labour value system, isn't it? Every single other nationality and country prioritised over the UK.

Hallowedturf · 04/05/2026 07:59

I might be being unfair, but I can quite imagine quiet satisfaction in No. 10 that people will be compelled to holiday at home (or not at all).

The old spite coming through again.

Oh well. Labour civil war will at least be a decent bonus with which to liven up a staycation.

Actually, that's depressingly true.

With the unquestioned assumption that the puritanical suffering obviously shouldn't apply to them.

They are probably working on plans to have a two tier pricing and booking system.

if you are working you pay extra and an additional tax to subside those who aren’t.

UC gets you £1 flights and priority boarding.

Yep. Can’t see Starmer’s many jaunts on costly plane trips - which Labour attacked the Tories for 🙄 - being cut back. But then the world needs this colossus of a globe-trotting statesman to put himself about.

It really does work for some. Photo ops, press releases and a list. Coalition of the willing style. What of all this stuff, it just stays at photo op level.

Don't give them ideas.

Those ridiculous prices for the Tower of London, Westminster, Kew Gardens etc for people on UC are quite a slap in the face. Completely disproportionate. Increasing accessibility - bullshit! Those attractions are so expensive that even well-earning people can't afford to go. The way to increase accessibility is to make all the tickets more reasonable.
