A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@WaffleBomb it was under the guise of humour rather than serious conversation

In fairness, his jokes were pretty clever

But it's that uncomfortable sensation that I've described with this group before.... basically I think anyone with a certain set of views feels free to speak out and the rest of us don't.

i'm sure there were others laughing politely and not in agreement.

if I wasn't rather isolated, I wouldn't have minded speaking up but when it's the only social group you have, it does get more complicated. I am particularly irritated by leftists at the moment.

As I'm in Essex and we're expected to go Reform, things could be very interesting next week.

Sidenote, getting a taxi home at 9:30 - driver was a lot better than the taxi drivers who tend to turn up at 11:30 or midnight. Interesting.

I went out for a drink this evening

Yes, I am home early! Suffice to say it was one of those evenings where the chat made me feel like an extreme right winger. Different bloke this time. I have met him once before. I was hoping for a politics free evening. I only went because I said I would go this evening and I don't like to drop out when I said I would go. I like to keep my word.

also, I'm not sure of the value of going out for idle chitchat these days.

Frankly I'll be glad when it's all done and dusted. Some very odd people frothing over the Welsh election who I previously thought your average Joe before this.

I have American friends who went quite mental over the Biden, Harris versus Trump election. One has now shut up. The other one a published author is still wittering on to her readers.

I have a lot of family in Essex. God bless them they've been as quiet as the grave on FB.

I know what you mean. As you said, I bet you weren't the only person in the group silently irritated by him.

@justasking111 do you mean people you know?

I know one person who has full on TDS. I asked her to stop and think about some of what she was saying. We weren't particularly close at the time, but I would say we are now, so I'm not sure if I'd venture into politics. I haven't really got people who can do stuff like pick me up from medical appointments so I don't really want to piss off the one person who would. Yes, that is a very transactional way of seeing things, but unfortunately, it's how my life is at the moment.

she works for a big international company and she told me a few weeks later, that one of her US colleagues had visited and they'd had the whole conversation about black people voting for Donald Trump. I may be wrong, but I think she's starting to see things with nuance, which is good

Honestly, I don't police what people think! It's just things are so charged at the moment, and I don't want friendship going down the pan because of politics.

equally, I would like a night at the pub to just be a night at the pub. I avoided going on the night of the Gorton & Denton by election and apparently they did talk politics all night and it was quite heated.

SapphireCasino · 30/04/2026 23:29

does anyone know why Jacob Rees Mogg was asked to speak at the vigil? I thought he spoke very well. I just wondered why they chose him.

If the dreadful Angela Rayner becomes leader it will be the Corbyn years all over again. I would be embarrassed to have her as our PM.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to post here.

redange · 01/05/2026 09:20

The sad thing is that Angela Raynor is a good representation of the current state of the United Kingdom. Thus, is likely to 'represent' the UK in the light it deserves to be seen in. We as a country deserve everything we are getting thrown at us and the incoming bankruptcy and '1974' disaster times by 5 that is inevitable. In the 70s the one thing that enabled us to escape was 'community' cohesion and the drive to get up from the bottom. The chance of that happening today is zero as we have no cohesion, no drive and most of all no 'indefectibility' to advance forward.

Hello All!! I've been out of the country.....Was hoping bollard would be gone upon my return but sadly not yet!

Have tried to catch up on this thread...it's my lifesaver at the moment. My dislike of the hypocritical left grows daily....why I cross the road I dont know..it gives me the rage. Incoming squirrels.

Thank you.
Good grief. You would think Rayner would be on her best behaviour rn, but no. She's getting rat arsed and making a fool of herself in front of colleagues and journalists.
There was a tone of pity in that column.

You might want to read Hodges column posted above before you nail your colours to Rayner’s mast.

I'm not sure Rayner understands the concept of good behaviour; as pointed out by @redange she will appeal to the many in the UK who identify with her - and that's the really depressing state of our country.

It's been quite something, hasn't it? They are certainly quite happy to play the idiot for whatever new trope they adopt to signal their place in the left gang. Pretending they can disarm knife welding maniacs with kind hands was new though. Glad for Rowley's intervention, hopefully it will give a few heads a wobble.

I don't understand why or how people identify with her. Anything said against her is met with accusations of sexism and classism but that's not the case. How is getting pissed and walking into a door a good advert to be the next PM of a G7 economy?
I am a northern wc woman with a professional job. My accent is very similar to AR's. She does not represent me at all, and it riles me that others think that we're all like her. We are not.

Yes definitely.
I was amazed that the jew hate posts were still standing this morning, yet yours were deleted.
Mark Rowley intervention was brilliant. I'm glad he's spoken out against ZP.

Question Time last night: There is something about Emma Reynolds' supercilious smirk which enrages me. DH says it's probably because she personifies the smug and self-assumed superiority of the Labour party. He might be right.

Same, tg he did that. The last thing we need is armchair critics and / or antisemitism making the situation harder. Particularly now the threat level is severe.

It’s irritating to see people think they’d handle a man with a potential explosive device better, and they can’t even appreciate people who run towards that rather than away from it.

You're not alone. I feel the same about Emma Reynolds. I can't put my finger on it precisely.

We don’t know, but maybe behind the scenes Mark Rowley has been asking his political masters all along for greater powers and/or firmer decisions about banning marches etc. The hate preachers in mosques around which there is ample evidence need to be arrested

Just another revolting attempt by ZP to change the narrative to work in his favour. He doesn't want empathy towards Jewish people.
Those who agree with him need to take a long hard look at themselves.
