A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I think I'm going to retreat from the wider board. Just deleted a post that have me outright banned rather than the run of deletions I've had in the last few hours. <And breathe>

Has anyone seen that Milliband is gunning for dryers and leaving us with those shit ones that take hours to dry a bed sheet?

Edited

No but your description made me laugh. I hear you on the rest.

Upstartled · 30/04/2026 17:18

Yes, I've had the email of doom and on thin ice, it seems. I am not contributing to the general ethos of parents supporting one another. If anyone has any hints and tips on how to support the parenting goals of anti-semites, I'm all ears.

I had one too (a few weeks ago)

One thing that I forgot to include in earlier comment about the Golders Green attacks was Starmer calling a COBRA meeting. This is clearly a newish Starmer PR tactic (aka recurring stunt): something happens which makes Starmer’s government look shit and incapable and, hey presto!, we have an announcement of a badass-sounding emergency meeting (to be held the next day 🙄) which will do absolutely nothing. It’s all soundbites and gestures.

He really is a knob. I mean, seriously, the most foolish, self-regarding and pathetic PM we’ve ever had. By a long way.

How on earth MN Labour stalwarts can carry on backing the jackass is baffling.

boys3 · 30/04/2026 17:27

Thanks for that polling link in the Times @WaffleBomb

I presume the flat-earthers (aka Starmer acolytes) will be arguing, if they are not already, that losing anywhere between 1000 and 2000 seats is just par for the course, second year blues, nothing to see here….

lovely weather where I am again today so how better to wile away a sunny hour by looking at local election results over the past 50 years?😄

Losing (or gaining) over 1,000 councillors (or very near four figures) is much more of an exception rather than being typical

1976

  • Labour lose 1309
  • Conservatives gain 1745

1977

  • Labour lose 1309
  • Conservative gain 1293

1981

  • Conservatives lose 1193
  • Labour gain 988

1986

  • Conservatives lose 975

1991

  • Conservatives lose 1035

1995

  • Conservatives lose 2018
  • Labour gain 1807

1999

  • Labour lose 1150

2003

  • Labour lose 833

2007

  • Conservatives gain 932

2011

  • Labour gain 857
  • Lub Dems lose 748

2019

  • Conservatives lose 1330

2023

  • Conservatives lose 1063

Losing into four figures, and even more so if nearer 2,000, is a big deal whatever they may say.

@boys3 "lovely weather where I am again today so how better to wile away a sunny hour by looking at local election results over the past 50 years"

well, that's made me feel better about the fact that I didn't get a chance to go out today! 😂

WaffleBomb · 30/04/2026 17:40

Thanks @boys3. I love your stats when you've been down a rabbit hole. 😁
One of my dc has noticed (with disdain) that I save all election leaflets. 😂

Yes the losses for Labour will be seismic, whatever their acolytes say. And its all on Bollard.
It isn't just the two main parties playing catch with votes this time either.

boys3 · 30/04/2026 17:44

@SapphireCasino 😂 Although not then yet old enough to vote I have very clear memories of the 1970s. Which does make me feel quite old suddenly.😃

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 30/04/2026 17:52

There’s an anonymous Labour voice being quoted quite widely in the media setting the trigger level for Labour panic at losses of 1,500+ council seats. I think that’s rubbish. Labour MPs will shit themselves and move against Starmer at losses of 1,000 or more, together with failure in Scotland and the loss of Wales.

Since pretty clearly Labour will go down in Scotland and Wales…If in England losses are 1,000 he’ll get into a messy fight and will be out in months. If losses hit 1,500 he’s out in days. If they lose 1,800 it’s “taxi for Mr Starmer!” on the night.

I almost hope he does just well enough to cling on for a protracted civil war in Labour.

😁 Definitely a popcorn day. I might go wild, maybe sweet and salty?

Upstartled · 30/04/2026 18:10

There's a politics professor from Oxford, Stephen Fisher, who is predicting that Labour will lose 1900 councillors. Not sure where that puts Keir on your scale @DenizenOfAisleOfShame? Perhaps he'll be dropped straight into the Thames on Rayner's dingy with a few tins and a vape?

Stability, innit?

I did try to work out if 'recurring stunt' was some kind of spoonerism! 🤣

I read that earlier. Not sure what to make of it.

justasking111 · 30/04/2026 20:29

Just seen a new poll with a pretty colour map for Wales. Apparently Plaid are going to clean up. Gawd knows where the poll came from. Last official one said reform had edged ahead of plaid. It's all very mad hatter tea party time here 🙄

justasking111 · 30/04/2026 20:33

Sorry poll

37%!....Is that a recent pr campaign? I don't think they have seen results like that since January.

Yep, not worth it.

Yes I was reading about Red Ed banning dryers this morning.
We had dryer-gate on this thread a couple of weeks ago. I was panicking because my trusty old vented dryer died. I had a mountain of laundry, so it was defcon 1 in our house. 😂
I couldn't find a suitable replacement, or consenser dryer. I had heard awful things about heat pump dryers, but a pp recommended her heat pump dryer to me, so I bought the same one that afternoon from currys.
I love it tbf, panic over. 😂😂

Edited

I'm genuinely relieved to hear that, I was thinking of you when loading mine a couple of days ago 😁

SapphireCasino · 30/04/2026 22:03

I went out for a drink this evening

Yes, I am home early! Suffice to say it was one of those evenings where the chat made me feel like an extreme right winger. Different bloke this time. I have met him once before. I was hoping for a politics free evening. I only went because I said I would go this evening and I don't like to drop out when I said I would go. I like to keep my word.

also, I'm not sure of the value of going out for idle chitchat these days.

SapphireCasino · 30/04/2026 22:07

@WaffleBomb I don't think my tumble dryer is great. It's one of those integrated washing machine tumble dryer things. It came with the flat. So it's only three years old. Not worth changing it, but I really hope I can get something with a dryer if mad Ed gets his way

@justasking111 I don't know about the terror threat thing either. I wouldn't put it past Starmer to have done it to look as if he's doing something? I don't have to go into London in the next few weeks but I am obviously always on the alert for terror threats due to my previous losses.

It doesn't make much difference to me. What is it, severe and... I can't remember the level below it. I think everyone in London is basically always on alert but you've got to live your life.

it does really annoy me when people on the Tube stand miles away from their bags! What is that about?

That’ll be the the “sorry you’re strapped to a rocket to Mars, but we never thought much of you, and anyway what’s your name?” level of Labour losses.

Don't let it get to you, not worth it. I've been labelled far-right, Reformite etc many times by those who don't even know what it means. There is nothing virtuous about people on the left, yet they feel the need to educate others with their infinite wisdom. 🙄
Why can't people just sit in a pub for a natter without getting into politics fgs.
