@AnOldLeodensian She escaped charges by claiming she'd never had any previous seizures.

Whilst this may be true, it is legal to drive if there has been no seizure for 12 months. Other rules apply for nocturnal-only seizures and whilst changing/coming off anti-convulsant meds

BanditTheCat · 14/04/2026 22:51

Some very naive posts on here. Think about any relatively major news stories you can remember from the last few years, whether someone was charged or not. Media would usually manage to get their hands on a photo and some background info. In this case, Clare Freemantle has had nearly everything about her wiped from the internet, no photos on any news article, all no doubt through some kind of super injunction which has come through her privileged connections. One single solitary photo exists, an overhead drone shot showing where the car ended up. No dashcam footage exonerating her, no CCTV in the public domain, no bodycams to be seen. 11 police officers investigated for potential gross misconduct. This case was never investigated thoroughly; it was obvious when it happened, and it’s obvious now. The same with that American diplomat’s wife who drove on the wrong side of the road outside the airbase and killed that young lad on a motorcycle. No photo of her, no trace of her, flown out of the country in the ensuing days, and the case was essentially swept under the carpet. Something is super fishy about how Clare Freemantle managed to career that huge Defender off the road and plough into a bunch of people at such force. These two schoolgirls have never received proper justice.

Great post! Something does not add up here

I don't think this is exclusive.
There's a very recent case of two 18 year old boys who were tragically killed in a RTA.
The person responsible was arrested, prosecuted and sentenced.

There are only three images of that person (one a police mug shot), online.

Not quite - EEG’s measure brain activity only while you’re having the EEG. Brain activity returns to normal quickly so even if you have one within a few hours of a suspected seizure, it’s quite likely to show normal brain activity. Unless you have a seizure while you’re having an EEG, or the EEG technician provokes one (they do this when they are testing for suspected epilepsy as flashing lights and specific breathing patterns provoke epileptic brain activity in some people with epilepsy).

There is no guaranteed medical test for epilepsy, and given that when you have a seizure you are unconscious, most people get a diagnosis because other people have witnessed them having more than one seizure.

Edited

My exMIL couldn't get a diagnosis for her daughter for years because she rather inconveniently never managed to have either an absence or a full seizure in front of a doctor. It took an MRI following 'an accident' (ie, having another seizure and sustaining a head injury at school) where she had multiple seizures whilst in the machine for anybody to say 'Oh yeah, she has epilepsy' instead of 'Sometimes, children learn how to get attention or to distract away from getting into trouble, it must be very stressful for you to have two children, how's your mood?'.

Challenger2A7 · 14/04/2026 23:18

I'm sick of people who really are too ill to drive, but won't bloody well give up. They whinge about their "independence", which usually means going to Tesco once a week. An old man who lived near me had several heart attacks but insisted on driving when he certainly shouldn't have been. He had a fatal heart attack while driving and killed a child on the pavement. F*CK his independence.

Those cars are like tanks quite literally as are Tesla’s etc they are so heavy as they are electros and the battery weighs a lot ! These types of cars shouldn’t be on normal license in my view.

I think if one thing comes out of this because I doubt the families will get real justice and neither will the corruption in the MET get resolved, is that there is a ban/restriction on these vehicles.

Why isnt this bigger news? This school is similar to mine, and it seems like they have great lawyers who got her off.

Your post doesn't make sense. What does it matter that the school is "similar" to yours? You then say the school seems like they have great lawyers. This is just a bizarre thing to say.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 14/04/2026 23:22

The whole thing stinks. Was she ever breathalysed? Those poor families 😢

I meant to say it struck a nerve this morning because the story was there (no longer there), the school looks very much like where my own children go so I could easily see how a car could career into there.

I had not realised she wasn't prosecuted at the time. I assume she must have excellent lawyers. I hope those poor parents get justice.

Is there going to be a ban?

MineThineYom · 14/04/2026 23:42

Looks like Clare has friends in high places.

TurquoiseDress · 14/04/2026 23:52

I’ve seen it reported via lots of news outlets today

Those poor girls and their parents/families 😢

At the time I was ferociously attacked on MN because I felt the driver had evaded justice and I still stand by this. But received many messages from people saying they thought so too.

I don’t think the police have been racist - rather, weak in the face of someone clearly lawyered-up.

100% agree with you. I live locally and it is the view of a lot of people. There is a price for everything including your freedom. Would it be the same outcome if it had been someone in a beaten up old van..? It’s important to remember the families of the two girls that lost their children that day and the stress this continued case must be bringing them.

Allisnotlost1 · 15/04/2026 00:02

Condbottle · 14/04/2026 21:12

It's incredibly naive to think that having money and influence, being well connected couldn't possibly influence a police investigation. Of course it can, and that's probably why the police are being investigated now.

Don’t you think the wealthy parents of two dead girls are also pretty influential in shaping an investigation and media coverage? This would never have been reopened were it not for the wealthy parents and posh school angle.

The police are being investigated because they did a shit job. Like they do so often.

Claire Freemantle gets every mention of her name removed from the internet. She has deep pockets.

The police also didn't take statements from witnesses, who had some interesting things to say about Claire Freemantle and her behaviour in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

What interesting things? Why did they not interview ?

Do you mean the story is no longer there? The link still works fine.

IdentityCris · 15/04/2026 00:05

Everytime I see one of those tank-like Land Rovers I start the same conversation with DH: "Will those families ever get justice?"

That must be tedious for him.

Why did this lady not get similarly anonymised https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-62337283

Presumably because she was convicted. The putative accused in the Wimbledon case hasn't been.

Gracez87 · 15/04/2026 00:06

I suspect little is being reported because no charges have been brought and everyone is concerned not to prejudice the right to a fair trial if that becomes necessary.

Racism is in society and someone is always poised to be racist. prepare for the worst but hope for the best.
