I don’t care to read anything about the woman and I certainly don’t care what she looks like. I do think however that “medical incident” was believed rather too readily. I suppose it can never be proved one way or the other, but the terrible thing is that if this was a “one off” the woman can be back behind the wheel already - with either the chance that she could drive her tank into other children or that the medical incident was actually her looking at her phone, in which case she got away with it.

really? The post in question:

“That the story was shelved due to the person themselves paying people off”

Yes really. That comment was regerring to the Putney Pusher story not the Wimbledon story.

the poster also knows nothing about who the Putney pusher “paid off”

why was it mentioned if no connection to this story? It was clearly a post suggesting Claire freeman has paid off parties to bury the story, just like the Putney pusher. That’s very obvious from the post.

How can it be 'too readily' when one of the complaints that I recall being made is that the parents waited ages for the outcome and were pushing and pushing for an outcome and were in the press saying they were still waiting and it all wasnt good enough

Well that was the outcome.

Claire Freemantle gets every mention of her name removed from the internet. She has deep pockets.

The police also didn't take statements from witnesses, who had some interesting things to say about Claire Freemantle and her behaviour in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

This is the most pertinent thing for me. Why did the police not do the basics?
The whole thing stinks.

Do the police take statements from everyone near a crash scene, were there no statements at all is that what is being said?

I still havent heard what the 'interesting' things were meant to be that were being said.

likelysuspect · 15/04/2026 09:20

And just googling it looks as if you can very easily remove yourself from the internet, its no biggie. I might do it myself.

Itsmetheflamingo · 15/04/2026 09:28

It seems like she behaved like an arsehole after the crash rather than being contrite and cooperative and people who witnessed this are pissed pff they didn’t get the chance to make statements to that effect.

but unfortunately behaving like an arsehole isn’t evidence for a witness statement.

Yes everyone has the right under gdpr. She’s moved Quickly (or she didn’t have much social media presence in the first place)

Totalinsanity · 15/04/2026 09:34

Ok, for all those crying ‘justice’ look up the case of Harry Clarke. A bin man who killed six people when slumped over the wheel and faced no charges. Even if the driver in this case was diagnosed epileptic she would still have been legal to drive if she was on medication and was 12 months seizure free. If it was a first seizure that is desperately awful timing (I have friends who have had first seizures in adulthood - one in their 30s and one in their 60s!). It is good that there is an investigation if the police handling of the incident was poor - hopefully it will clarify things for everyone, especially the families of the girls killed and the other victims. What should also be under review is having this size & weight of car in a densely urban area. I admit I have a big car (not as big as that though) but I live in the middle of nowhere and need it to tow and get through the mud & odd flood.

I have just googled 'Claire Freemantle'. There are dozens of pages referencing her - right from the time of the accident.

I haven’t read anything describing her behaving like an arsehole, but a family member who is epileptic behaves like an arsehole after having a seizure. He has no memory of what has happened, and the seizure uses loads of energy so he’s grumpy and confused and can even be aggressive to people trying to help.

Yes, and fitting aside, I don't think any of us know how we'd react in the immediate aftermath of something so horrific, but the head of the school has complained she hasn't been able to give the evidence she has, and you'd think that would be key.

It just doesn’t make any sense that the police would refuse to accept or listen to her evidence.
They might not do anything with it if it wasn’t useful, and I suspect this is her issue rather than the fact the police refused to take it in the first place. Whether or not that is related to the misconduct and racism, time willl tell.

Trampoline · 15/04/2026 10:00

There are numerous interviews online with both sets of parents- they have been impressively active in the media in an attempt to make themselves heard. Search YouTube for one with Vanessa Felz (extremely upsetting to watch) or several BBC ones which include clips from the headteacher.
It's crystal clear that money and status have come into play. The Daily Fail published articles which quickly had Freemantle's photo withdrawn etc - not easy for joe public to do that? Yes there have been some since but, at the time, everything disappeared as if by magic.
Every witness should have been interviewed. Many put themselves forward and and asked to give their statements but still were not interviewed. Why was that? There were lots of people there that day - the victim's families have stated that what they have been told people saw that day does not match what the police have told them. What is there to think here other than A) Total incompetence or B) Corruption.

The police themselves said, when the rearrested the driver in 2025, that they had lines of inquiry that required further investigation.

Well quite, and I find it interesting that people are hot on the money and potential influence of the driver while totally overlooking the school using their influence in this way. At the very least it’s possible that the reopening and even the investigation is prompted by the school’s repeated interventions. That may well be because they feel they have evidence that was ignored (although I’m not at all sure what that evidence could be). It could equally be that they want current and future parents to be reassured. Clearly they have a reputation to protect too, and it’s plastered all over their website.

I wouldn’t read their statement as strongly as that ‘Det Supt Lewis Basford said: "Our main priority is to ensure the lines of inquiry identified by the review are progressed. I would urge people to avoid speculation."

Lines of enquiry identified by the review could potentially indicate that there were technical errors.

"The Specialist Crime Review Group review identified significant shortfalls in the way officers conducted the initial investigation, as well as lines of enquiry which required further examination."

I’m unsure why you don’t also see the money and status of the parents and school as equally influential in this? It’s actually extremely difficult to get images removed from the internet, news organisations have very deep pockets and case law is on their side.

One of girls’ mothers was chair of the PTA and herself worked in investment banking, both sets of parents are wealthy and are represented by a law firm who have a whole page dedicated to the case https://www.moorebarlow.com/services/personal/injury/major-trauma/wimbledon-school-tragedy/.

By all means point out that the driver is wealthy, connected and ‘lawyered up’ but at least acknowledge that the families are equally as well armed.

Everytime I see one of those tank-like Land Rovers I start the same conversation with DH: "Will those families ever get justice?"

That must be tedious for him.

I agree, but DH feels the same outrage as I do about the incident.

Condbottle · 15/04/2026 10:35

I think that's where the real money is talking - why hasn't there been more discussion about the size and power of "domestic" vehicles?

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/04/2026 10:44

What I don’t understand is if it wasn’t a medical emergency, what is the explanation? If it was dangerous driving/looking at phone, surely there would have been braking once she’d driven through the fence?

I believe Claire Freemantle owns a few large labradors.
