Me. In bed at 9 because I wake at 4 no matter what time I got to bed. It’s the only way I can get enough sleep

Rowgtfc72 · 13/04/2026 04:30

I get up at 340am.
Like to be in my bed for 9pm, read till half past.
Last week dh was watching a film so I went up at twenty past 8.
It was lovely 🙂

I’m in my 40s and in bed at that time. I had a daughter later in life who was a terrible sleeper and now go to bed at the same time as her. Would rather go to bed than doom scroll or watch mindless tv anyway

Same. I actually go up by 7 now I’m nearly 60. Wake up at 4 on the dot as well.
A sleep in is 7 which rarely happens.
Oh to be able to sleep late or have a nap. Never happens….

MinnieMountain · 13/04/2026 05:13

47 and I turn my light off at 9.30 most nights. After 10 is a rarity. I normally wake up at 5.

Lovemuesli · 13/04/2026 05:17

I'm 73, with chronic kidney disease which gives me fatigue and restless legs . I'm in bed most days about 8.30 and I get up at 9.30. Unless we need to go out, I cook breakfast for DH and I, and then go back to bed for another couple of hours.

MikeRafone · 13/04/2026 05:21

I’m in my pjs by 5.30 and going to bed anywhere between 8-9

really need to work on my sleep atm

reading about front loading liquid, having salt and honey drink before bed to prevent upping for the loo at 4am

renovationqueen · 13/04/2026 05:35

I’m 30 and I like to be asleep for 9 but sometimes I can’t keep my eyes open past 7.30pm! I like getting up at 5 and getting things done before work.

YayRain · 13/04/2026 05:41

I'm similar. I go light out at 10.30ish. I'm happy if I sleep till 6, though it's often restless in the wee small hours.

HelmholtzWatson · 13/04/2026 05:44

I like to go to bed sometime between 8-9pm and read for a little while. Sleep like a log until 3-4am. As long as you get enough sleep, it doesn't matter when you go to bed or wake up.

Highlighta · 13/04/2026 05:46

I could have typed your post OP 😂

I really love going to bed. My room is my calm peaceful place.
I am in bed by 9pm or 9.30pm the latest and my light is off by 10pm. I am up at 6am each morning.

I am single and love my routine. I get enough quality sleep at night now, so I never get tired in the day or have that 4pm slump I remember from back in the day.

Whodrankmytea · 13/04/2026 05:48

In my 60s and often in bed between 8 and 9 but always awake early in the morning (4 am sometimes earlier). I like the quiet mornings.

Bjorkdidit · 13/04/2026 05:53

As late as that?

We sometimes start looking at the clock at 8 pm and ask 'are we allowed to go to bed yet'? I'm the classic early 50s menopausal woman and DPs work means that he has to do random early and late shifts so sleep is all over the place.

My bladder also wakes me up at least twice a night (or if I'm lucky once in the night and then at getting up time, so between 5 and 7 am depending on work) and I often can't get back to sleep after then.

When DP is working away, which is quite often, I get into a terrible sleep pattern because I don't put pressure on myself to appear 'normal' or be sociable so if I'm tired in the early evening, because I've been awake since 3 am, I go to bed but then wake up around midnight or so, then spend half the night awake, go back to bed if I'm lucky/have time, then sometimes don't get up until 9/10 am.

Whether it matters depends on work or if I have plans. I can WFH sometimes which means I can get away with it as long as I sign in before 9.30 but often I also have to go into the office, out to client meetings or have a trip booked, so I might need to just get up and get on with it.

Popcorn76 · 13/04/2026 06:03

How do people deal with partners going to bed later? I wake naturally at 4 to 5am so would love to go to bed earlier (currently go at 10pm) but my husband always disturbs me when he goes to bed and then I struggle to get back to sleep.

Cricketashes · 13/04/2026 06:08

How do you all get things done going to bed soon early? Hobbies, social lives, TV, housework etc.

I watch TV, but I don't watch mindless TV.

This is me. 50 in December and I love going to bed early. I usually get into bed around 7.30, and doom scroll, go on instagram until I fall asleep. I hate doing things in the evenings, any theatre trips I do matinee, and if meet friends for dinner, make sure it’s an early meeting so home for 8pm. I sleep so badly (hoping to be prescribed HRT tomorrow) and even if I did sleep all night (which never happens) my alarm goes off for 5.30.

Got my brother & family coming for the weekend (invited themselves) and dreading having to stay up later. Realise how boring this makes me seem, but at this stage of my life, early to bed and early to rise works for me.

graywingeddoor · 13/04/2026 06:12

I am up at half 5. I am in bed for 9 and read for an hour. Sometimes less. DS and I leave the house at 7 each day. Luckily home bout 5.15. Sometimes I go to bed to watch the soaps, depending on what’s on during the week.

As for getting housework done, I try to keep on top of it while dinner is cooking. We only have a small house so half an hour or so each night covers much of it as long as it had a good clean over the weekend.

I don't drink or go out late any more 🤷 it's shit but I have to be able to function during the day to earn a living.

You do them during day time hours. I rarely watch TV, apart from breakfast news. If there’s something I want to watch, I’ll watch it during the weekend, as most stuff is online to watch at convenience anyway. For me hobbies take place during the day, and so does socialising. I will occasionally go out in the evening, but does exhaust me all week if its weekday as i’m up early.

RedRobyn24 · 13/04/2026 06:14

I think this is a good thing, I go to bed early because my DD’s sleep isn’t great. But I actually think waking up early can be quite special and peaceful, you can be so productive in the morning, but you can also enjoy the world waking up.

I tend to use the weekend to catch up on this. My social life is minimal. I’m a teacher (plus other responsibilities in school) and the job absolutely drains me. I’m in work by 7.30am so must get up 5.45am.

Hobbies - mine are finished by 7pm
Social lives - weekends and if out at night it is very rarely 2am roll ins anymore
Housework - gets done as I go along. I do things as they need doing, there is no set time for this. I do a chunk in the mornings otherwise
TV watch an episode or two of something in the evening
Cooking - I start something off as soon as I get in. I will have eaten by 6pm if not a hobby night.

I am up before 6am most mornings. There is a fair bit of time in between getting up and getting out for the day.

RantyRant3555 · 13/04/2026 06:28

Wondering if I should just go to bed a bit earlier. I have very bad sleep habits with a nap after work (6pm) then eating late and bed later, waking 5.40 today. It might help if I got up when I wake up- will be up at 6.40am, on MN, listening to the radio

I resent Masterchef being at 9pm, as enjoy following thread here.
