I get up at 5.30-6am week days. I even like being in bed for 9.30pm on a weekend night too.

If I was getting up that early, I’d be in bed by 9.30pm as well.

GreenGodiva · 13/04/2026 07:53

I’m 47 and I don’t work due to illness. my DH is 63 and is a coach driver. We are in bed most nights about 8.30-9pm as he is up at 5-5.30. I tend to get up about 7. It’s been revolutionary for me and helps my auto immune issues greatly. Previously I would stay up until 1am and scrape by on 4-6 hours sleep but this works so much better. Even when we go on holiday, we are still in bed for a similar time unless we have very specific plans that can only be done in the evening and that’s rare as we just love being in bed early and up handy. Total 180 for me 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm 73, with chronic kidney disease which gives me fatigue and restless legs . I'm in bed most days about 8.30 and I get up at 9.30. Unless we need to go out, I cook breakfast for DH and I, and then go back to bed for another couple of hours.

I'm 75 years old and still working with my own counselling practice. I usually go to bed at 12.00 - read until 1.00 and then up at 6.00. I would never feel tired enough before 12.00.

Goditsmemargaret · 13/04/2026 08:08

Same. I've been doing this since 37. I love it.

99victoria · 13/04/2026 08:09

I've never been a morning person - still work part-time at 65 and have to get up at 6am on work days but still never in bed before 12
If i'm not working i usually wake naturally about 7am but will have a couple of cups of coffee in bed before getting up 😀

Epidote · 13/04/2026 08:17

Me, I ve doing it for the vast majority of my life and it is ace.

SoSadSoSadSoSad · 13/04/2026 08:19

Yes. Love being bed by 9pm. Often fast asleep by 9.30. it’s such comfort.

I still struggle to get up at 6.30 though.

Fiddlesticks1 · 13/04/2026 08:21

Up at 5 most mornings - internal alarm clock and in bed reading between 9- 9.30. I’m 72 but certainly feel younger.

SpiceGirlsNeedAComeBack · 13/04/2026 08:26

Im in my 30s and sometimes I am in bed by 6pm in the winter obviously not to sleep but makes me feel better. I wake up at 4-5am though and no matter what I do I cannot sleep in past that.

How do you all get things done going to bed soon early? Hobbies, social lives, TV, housework etc.

Housework I do on my day off first thing in the morning so I have the rest of the day in a lovely clean house, the rest of us clean up stuff as we go, might throw the hoover around etc

Hobbies - I do in the early evening

Socialising - this happens either during the day at weekends - eg brunch and shopping with my friends or meeting up for lunch. We will sometimes go out for a night out or to a bar but thats certainly not an every day routine (I doubt anyone socialises in the evening every single day surely?) that happens maybe once every couple of months and then I will stay up

TV?- I don't try to fit that in because most of it is pointless shit lol We will watch film at the weekends together sometimes but we finish about 9.

It's perfectly doable and the bonus is, I get amazing sleep so I have loads of energy to do it all. Far rather that than staying up super late for the sake of it but feeling exhausted and wretched.

herbalteabag · 13/04/2026 08:27

I'm not sure how people manage this! I get up around 6.15 unless it's the weekend, but struggle to go to bed before 11.30. Twice a week I don't get home until 6.30 so having dinner ready before 8 is an achievement for me!

Myblueclematis · 13/04/2026 08:43

I'm 71 and go to bed around 10.30pm and am usually awake around 6am onwards. I generally have to get up around twice a night to visit the bathroom and now the lighter mornings are here, I can see me getting up around 5-5.30am if I wake up and can't get back to sleep. I detest the winter months when it isn't light until around 7.45am, I make myself stay in bed and get up when it's light.

My sleep pattern for the last 15 years has not been particularly good, bouts of insomnia at times, but as I'm retired now, it's not as big a problem as if I was still working.

Darkdiamond · 13/04/2026 08:45

I am a teacher too and also have primary aged kids, including a 4 year old. I would LOVE to go to bed at 8 but my youngest will not sleep until well after 9, no matter what I try. My husband is a night owl and its important for us as a couple to spend some time together once the kids are all asleep, just watching something on TV or talking about our day. Its important to my husband that we have that connection time, otherwise I would be in bed hours beforehand! I just love early nights!!!!

Pineneedlesincarpet · 13/04/2026 08:46

The period once you get into bed nice and clean before you go to sleep is the golden part of the day. You can hide from chores and just watch TV on your phone or read without being hassled. You don't want to waste it by going to bed later than 7ish in my book.

Doggymummar · 13/04/2026 08:47

Same 11 is a lat3 night here, usually 10 the nightly ritual begins. Generally up for 5 am when it's light like now, maybe 6 on winter time

Moveyourbleedingarse · 13/04/2026 08:47

On work days, I've started going to bed between 7.30 and 8. At the weekend I head up at 8.30 ish.

DH likes to watch shit TV till the early hours. I'm knackered, I don't see any value in sitting on the sofa yawning or falling asleep.

My alarm goes off at 4.30 weekdays and 5.30 weekends.

I'm 48 and I've decided to protect my sleep.

I am not a sociable person and I absolutely DREAD the idea of having to do anything at night.

I also get reflux, so I eat at 5ish.

I'm up at 5.40am too but I just couldn't go to bed as early as some of these times. I'd feel like I was missing out on life. I'm in bed for 11pm most nights.

Me too, some of these bedtimes are wild - PJs on at 5.30? In bed at 7.30?

I'm up early for work (6.30) or the gym (5.30) but still don't end up switching off until after 11pm by the time I've had an evening and read in bed.

I live on sandwiches to be honest. Last night was a can of soup and toast. Anything over ten mins prep and cook is no Bueno for me

This!!!!!!

I don't shower before bed as that makes me hot and gives me hot flushes, but I do love getting into bed. My absolute favourite part of the day.

In fact I'd go as far as to say it's like a hobby for me, I work very hard at it!

BUT, I couldn't lie in. It's not in my nature. I still set my alarm on holiday to get up and exercise.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 13/04/2026 08:51

@herbalteabag i cook a meal for DH in the evening, something I can leave in the cooker for him if he's late. I cook for DS too, but he gets home at 6.45 so that's done by 7.15.

I don't eat an evening meal, just have something like a couple of boiled eggs or some rice cakes and houmous or a slice of toast and avo.

I can't go to bed with food in my stomach as I have reflux.

SaltyandSweet · 13/04/2026 08:52

Ohhhh I WISH. I am 51 and definitely mentally ready for this. I am up at 6.30, work full time, deal with teens and DH and life in general ... and don't get to bed Monday to Saturday till 11.30pm/midnight because DH is a night owl and I would never see him if I didn't resist my urge to run to bed. I do occasionally marvel at how things have changed, I used to be a night owl too, able to not just get by on very little sleep but positively thrive, even tho I never stopped loving the teenagey long sleeps and used to nap on Saturdays in my 20s and 30s before kids ... ahhhh, to be rich, not to spend money, but just to be able to wantonly LOUNGE ...

Moveyourbleedingarse · 13/04/2026 08:53

@Myblueclematis get some vaginal oestrogen. It stops you needing to wee in the night. Trust me. It's a game changer.

(doesn't count as HRT)

WarriorN · 13/04/2026 08:55

Yep 👍

v close to 50 and I need to be falling asleep at 9:30, so in bed around 9.

I wake up naturally around 5, but it can be earlier and sometimes i have insomnia so it’s the best way to guarantee sleep.

Have to get up 5:30 for work anyway (part time)

Moveyourbleedingarse · 13/04/2026 08:58

@SaltyandSweet i still nap every day at the weekend! Mine are older teens, you should reintroduce the daytime nap.

Re spending time with other halves, I'm not sure it's quality time if you're yawning?!

IceStationZebra · 13/04/2026 08:58

I should do this as I’m always up early, but I cope quite well on not much sleep. Six and a half hours is a reasonable night. Have a 5yo though and I need an hour or so of chill time after bedtime, as well as tidying up from dinner and getting prepped for the next day.
