How does someone like Keir Starmer receive a knighthood?

I can't help wondering how Keir Starmer ever got to be made a sir? I always thought sirs were people who had done something special?

OP posts:

Sir Gavin Williamson exists. Now that's boggling.

A previous fireplace salesman from Scarborough!

Handeyethingyowl · 11/04/2026 12:11

These Keir Starmer is a weak liar posts are really boring. I never see any actual evidence so I can only conclude that they are clickbait by people with an agenda.

A lot of civil servants get all sorts of honours as a matter of course.

Much the same in HM Forces...

Certain honours come pretty much automatically on reaching a certain rank.

Notonthestairs · 11/04/2026 12:15

How does someone who can’t work Google set up a MN account?

Chatterlyssecret · 11/04/2026 12:17

Can you imagine going on a blind date & that lying twat turns out to be your evening’s entertainment.

the ones that make me laugh are KS is gay (sees extraordinarily unlikely he would hide it if so) or a pdf file (absolutely zero evidence, gives no indications or even “vibes” ala savile)

it’s like anyone the don’t like has to be a sexual deviant - and let’s make sure we do the good right wing thing of murkeying the waters between being gay and criminal sexual behaviour, cos you know they’re obviously interchangeable

not really, I just wondered what sort of criteria are in play in general - possibly very questionable ones (I'm speaking generally here). Calls the whole thing into question really....

If You know enough about Keir Starmer to feel you have enough knowledge to be able to criticise him, how can you possibly not know that he was the DPP for many years?

ZenNudist · 11/04/2026 12:21

OP doesn't like KS so doesn't think he deserved a knighthood. Personally I think it shows great character to be a stalwart public servant as he was as DPP it makes a much sounder basis for a political career than some of the chancers we've had in previous PMs.

I also think he's doing his best in a bad situation. The Tories tried to blame the previous Labour government for years doing a good job of passing off the effects of the global financial crisis of 2008 as Labour's fault. Meanwhile anyone suggests that the tory minted brexit and years of austerity have left our country in poor shape are shouted down as clearly Reeves and KS should have fixed the country by now... 🙄

I’m not a fan of his and I thought he was going to be a disappointment even before the election. But discussions about the honours system are irrelevant. Unless like the OP you don’t like him or his government but cannot, as demonstrated, enter into a specific discussion about policies and alternatives.

newornotnew · 11/04/2026 12:24

pusspuss9 · 11/04/2026 10:50

I don't know about his career, I'm going solely on his behaviour which is a mirror to his character which I find is unable to understand and allow any ideas except his own very narrow point of view.

Might be a good idea to read the basics about him before making judgements?

CurlewKate · 11/04/2026 12:25

Scotiasdarling · 11/04/2026 11:15

Well it's very hard to believe that someone believes in equality of they expect people to call them 'sir'.

Starmer doesn’t expect anyone to call him “Sir”.

stupidmowldyandassive · 11/04/2026 12:28

I am going to throw Gary Verity’s name out there…

What a bizarre post. MN seems to be attracting more and more posters who lack any sort of critical thinking

... and they all have a vote, in some part of the globe. Depressing.

Who do you mean? Farage? If so, I'd definitely leave immediately, I would want to spend as little time in the same place as him as possible.

And can be selected for jury service Shock

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/04/2026 12:35

Keir Starmer played a key part in the McLibel case, because he gave a lot of free legal advice and support to Helen Steel and David Morris, without which they might very well have thrown in the towel, or lost, which would have been a travesty of justice. I think very highly of him for his part in that. I assume much of the attempt to rubbish him is crude stuff from political opponents, mostly Reform.

I suspect OP has no idea what the DPP is or does.

Probably thinks it's a woke or DEI job which could easily be cut. Hmm

Well before everything came out about him
He did raise milliions for charity
Yes i realise ,it waa an excuse so could carry on with his abuse
I think he was posthumously, stripped of all his honours .

Yeah I know. I was just pointing out that they give them to lots of people. Some of which are considerably more unsavoury than Starmer.

Charlize43 · 11/04/2026 12:50

Never Here Keir? Probably through services to the travel industry as he always seems off on jollys.

Still waiting to see when he intends to tackle the Cost of Living Crisis?

Rachel Thieves seems to think that taxing everyone more will solve it and sort out the economy...

C o l crisis is caused by war and the effects of oh and the last government. and a dictorial president of another country. How do you suggest he cures the c o l crisis ?

pusspuss9 · 11/04/2026 11:24

he's weak, he lies, just for starters...

What lies has he told? Weak is about your perception of his capability, not a behaviour.
