Is there any other feeling as good as this?

Waking up in the morning, looking at the time, and realising you have woken up a whole hour ahead of the the time you have set your alarm for and you can snuggle back down and not have to get up yet? 😄

A close second would be the first sip of coffee in the morning, or that first sip on wine on a Friday evening.

Anything else?

When DDog is all sleepy and does his GBS (Great Big Sigh).

I love these. So many resonate. For me though, right now, it would also be having someone to share that monent with.

Driving the winding road back to my mums house (in my hometown 2 hours from where I live now) with my sister next to me and our kids in the back seats, knowing mum is waiting for us with a glass of wine.

Peeping into DC room before going to bed myself and seeing them fast asleep and breathing softly. They are at uni now but luckily I get a similar joyful feeling from watching DDog snoozing after a walk.

It sounds daft, but i take pleasure in the bird’s ‘lives’.
In my garden we have a mating pair of robins, magpies and blue tits.

Not daft at all. I love the time in February when you can hear the birds singing in the early morning for the first time, especially the blackbirds. Remember how lovely and hopeful it felt during the spring of that horrible, horrible winter lockdown of 2021.

@Lekking that was almost a poem.

Getting back into bed again after getting up, especially if there is sunshine on the duvet, ready for another bit of sleep.

Sorry but… that feeling after a really good seeing to when you could melt right through the mattress and never move again.

I won’t ever feel this again, but when a child has their hand in yours in the street and you know you’re on borrowed time and they won’t do it for much longer, so you almost hold your breath.

Oh this last one has made me catch my breath. I remember so clearly walking with DS when I thought he was past wanting to hold hands and yet there he was reaching for my hand and chattering away without a care in the word. It felt so very special but also bittersweet.

Warm evenings after a hot sunny day.
going to bed knowing that no alarm will wake me in the morning and I can wake up whenever I please.
The smell of freshly mown grass.
Sitting down in the evening with a favourite tv programme and a great snack…knowing that the house is clean.
The last day of the summer term, knowing that the six week holiday is stretching ahead of you.
Realising that tomorrow is payday and yet you still have money in your account.

RubyFatball · 11/04/2026 00:47

The first downward dog of the flow.
The first sip of wine.
The cracking of the spine of a book when you’re really getting into the story.
The third of fourth sip of tea that’s just the right temperature.
When there’s a space in the cheap all-day car park.
Greggs bakes hot.

It's called the menopause and not normally described as bliss. Sadly.

This is a really odd and selfish response to someone else's expression of pleasure.

PottingBench · 11/04/2026 08:19

You own shed.

Christmas eve when everything's done and you have everything in. You've finished work, the house looks twinkly, the fire is lit, everyone is home. You shut the front door, snuggled down, open a bottle. It is Christmas.

Bit of a controversial one (and one I don’t partake in any more) but…. Warm Greek evening outside a taverna, finished a beautiful meal, the air smelling of honeysuckle, with a glass of cold white wine and a cigarette as we people-watch the promenade.

That sounds like a lovely evening, @PauliesWalnuts

Why is it controversial?

aintnothinbutagstring · 11/04/2026 08:41

When you finish work on a friday and the weather is good. You drive home playing your favourite music and think about what the weekend holds.

As a chronic early waking insomniac I'd hate to wake up an hour before I set my alarm!

Same. Nothing I love more than realising. I have slept later than my usual annoying early wake up.

DilemmaDelilah · 11/04/2026 09:15

@PermanentTemporary I still remember the time that my stepgranddaughter chose to hold my hand on a shopping trip. We don't see her very often and she had never done it before, or has done it since, so it is a special memory for me.

Nothing beats watching your adult children laughing together.

Driving the winding road back to my mums house (in my hometown 2 hours from where I live now) with my sister next to me and our kids in the back seats, knowing mum is waiting for us with a glass of wine.

This made my heart melt. My Mum passed suddenly a couple of years ago and I still remember the absolute happiness I felt on my drive 'home' with my two kids in the car. I still remember pulling up outside the house and her flinging the door open and greeting us all with a massive smile and the biggest bear hugs. That feeling of being home will never leave me.

Thanks for sharing this.

I agree.

Last year I had a rare day when both adult DD's were home and they were messing about just like kids again, laughing and being daft and my heart swelled. Then both boyfriends arrived. We were going to the local pub for a few drinks and the 4 of them walked on ahead of us and the girls both linked arms and their boyfriends on the outside linked arms with them. I watched them all walking and laughing and it was pure magic. So much so that I took my phone out and photographed them from the back. Its a lovely photo 😊

I have loved reading these and its just reminded me of that feeling I used to have when we went on holiday when the kids were younger.

That feeling of arriving at the Villa after a full days travelling. You are all unpacked, there is food and wine in the fridge. The kids are tucked up in bed and DH and I would open a bottle of wine and sit outside in the warm night air with some music on and totally relax. Sitting there knowing you have 2 weeks of fun and sunshine ahead of you is just awesome.
