What have you got your kids for Easter?

Just that really. I’ve bought my DS (8) some eggs and a gingerbread decorate bunny kit, and some mini eggs cakes.

already seen posts on social media overloaded with clothes and toys and somewhat Christmas hauls.

feeling a bit deflated - should I have got more? For context we are away for the weekend at a caravan so there’s a fun Easter Sunday planned for him with onsite activities

What have you got your kids?

I’ve honestly never heard of anyone buying actual presents.

I grew up having Easter presents, because both my brother and I had winter birthdays and Easter was the perfect time to gift us things to use outdoors, slides, climbing frames etc, and it kind of stuck - so it's what I see as normal now.

I think a big egg, a hunt for smaller eggs, and a little gift (clothing, a book, small toy, video game etc) is a perfect mix. But just one egg is also fine, as I said, it's just how I grew up, but there was a reason for it!

Our children are all 16 and older. We got them eggs and other chocolate, some gifts like clothes, trainers, art stuff, a few bits for their rooms and some money. Our oldest is home from university and we always have family visiting from our home country at Easter so we make it a big family celebration with gifts, lots of big family meals as and a party. We are not religious but it’s nice to have time off altogether.

It’s an American tradition I believe. They have plastic eggs filled with gifts, money and smaller eggs to find so I suppose it morphs into baskets for those that don’t want to do a hunt. I’ve seen the baskets on UK social media accounts - family vloggers.

When mine were little and i didn’t want them to have too much chocolate I got them a small gift. Now they just have an egg and a regular hunt.

I grew up in a very catholic family and am raising my guys catholic too so Easter is a big deal for us. No doubt some people think I’m mad for getting gifts but it’s all I’ve ever known (and can confirm it was happening for my dad in the 60s too!).

We all got full new outfits for church (including shoes)
a book each (I may have 2)
a craft each
kids got slime, some small figures, a yoyo each (they’ve both been desperate for one)
cash from grandparents
an egg hunt at home with small eggs
2x medium eggs each at home

After church we went to my grandparents with the extended family where they did another big egg hunt and came out with what is an unholy amount of chocolate and cash.

Everything is rationed and used within baking etc. and now we all have crafts and books to spend today doing and reading while we have leftovers and a little sweet treat. It’s like another Boxing Day today and I bloody love it 🥰

An orange twirl egg dd2 and a 100g biscoff dairy milk bar and a 100g plain dairy milk dd1 who doesn’t like eggs

An Easter egg each, some smaller eggs (crème egg etc) to make an Easter egg hunt and some Easter treats like mini egg cakes for all of us to share over Easter

Never done clothes and gifts, when they were younger some relatives bought small gifts instead of an Easter egg.

We’ve never kept easter eggs secret or done Easter bunny- they choose what egg they want and I keep it for them to open Easter Sunday

Just chocolate easter eggs.

They got 2 each from us, plus lots of little ones from the egg hunt in the garden. They also got one from their aunt and uncle, plus some cash from grandparents. Aged 15 and 14.

I saw a post on sm where a parent had bought her three children new trainers, an Easter Egg and what looked like £50 in cash. Thank goodness she took a pic so we could all see what an idiot she is.

We only got him little eggs for egg hunts (one which he did alone, and another one with his older cousins). We knew family would get him chocolate so didn't want to overload him with even more. He's only 4. Various family members got him: a gold lindt bunny, dairy milk egg, Smarties egg, Aldi's version of mini eggs, and a kinder surprise bunny. So he still got plenty!

The simplicity of Easter is lovely. An Easter Egg each (and a tub of vanilla icecream instead for one, as that’s what he wanted).

I've never heard of getting presents ether. Our DDs are 10 and 12, we went to Center Parcs for the weekend as they got about 4-5 eggs (the smallish ones that cost about £2-3 each in Asda) . But they don't get any from anyone except us.

Where will the madness end?

2 Easter eggs each plus about £10 worth of stuff (hair product) they like each. 11 and 13. We did an impromptu Easter egg hunt with them (mini eggs in paper bags with clues) because they both were horrified that we thought the were too old!
