What have you got your kids for Easter?

Just that really. I’ve bought my DS (8) some eggs and a gingerbread decorate bunny kit, and some mini eggs cakes.

already seen posts on social media overloaded with clothes and toys and somewhat Christmas hauls.

feeling a bit deflated - should I have got more? For context we are away for the weekend at a caravan so there’s a fun Easter Sunday planned for him with onsite activities

What have you got your kids?

Little hunt for some small plastic bunnies and two eggs each. It is only Easter after all.

somanychristmaslights · 05/04/2026 10:20

A m&m Easter egg that he wanted. And that’s it! And he’s more than happy with having some chocolate at breakfast.

pruningmybush · 05/04/2026 10:21

A chocolate egg.
Always only did this.
That said, we take them on lots of trips out and holidays. We just aren't really "stuff" people

Mine (adults) have a couple of Easter Eggs each ( about a £4ish one and a smaller one )

I remember last year someone mentioned new clothes aka "A New Rig Out" which caused lots of "Eh"?

RigOut is definitely a phrase my Glaswegian Dad and Aunt used .

Uptodate Kate used to like a rigout. I think she was in Jackie

OotontheRandan · 05/04/2026 10:33

One medium egg each, ordered because I thought the Cadbury gift box i originally ordered came with 4 medium eggs but they were actually 4 of the smallest eggs. So they also have a small egg each. And then I was in M&S and had £2 off a chocolate animal voucher so they also got one of those each as I didn't think the medium eggs would arrive on time. But they did.

Last minute orders have failed me but given my children a bounty of chocolate.

Ordinarily they get 1 egg each.

Diana!! I still have my annuals!

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 05/04/2026 10:37

Zilch. He got an attendance award at school with about 5 Easter eggs in and my parents got him one. He's eaten the lot, god love teenage boys metabolism!

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/04/2026 10:38

A Reece’s egg and a crème egg one, also did an egg hunt with little plastic ones we use every year filled with stickers and other little bits.

SaintHildegard · 05/04/2026 10:41

An Easter mug, bobble pen, and an Easter themed notebook (all on sale in Morrisons for my budding young diarist), accompanied by a few small chocolate eggs. There would’ve been one more but I doubled up on the Freddo eggs, so I ate it. Wouldn’t want the display to be unbalanced. 😉

TimeToThrive · 05/04/2026 10:45

2 medium eggs and a small one each. Dd got 2 little books and both ds got a new themed stationery set for back to school. Harry Potter and Minecraft.

have some little eggs for an egg hunt in the garden later when the rain goes off and this storm passes.

happy Easter all!

toddlertoenail · 05/04/2026 00:51

Scooter, leggings, book, milkybar bunny and bubbles

want / wear / read / eat / fun 🐰

@toddlertoenail good luck with having set that precedent when they’re teenagers.

want / wear / read / eat / fun will become iPhone 20/ designer clothes/ money/ money/ money!

Benshawsberries · 05/04/2026 10:52

3 eggs each apart from oldest who wanted money instead

crystalmamma · 05/04/2026 10:56

A chocolate egg each and iv paid for them to go to an escape room and have lunch together next week. One is secondary school age the other is adult.

PotatoRasta · 05/04/2026 11:00

Nothing because it’s not Christmas!

JustAnotherMumTho · 05/04/2026 11:11

I think your Easter is perfect! Mine has had a couple of Easter eggs, a bag of Easter haribo and some small chocolates as part of a hunt. He will probably get an egg or two from various family members later too. My Easter cost me about £12, my son’s had chocolate for breakfast and that’s all he’s bothered about! I keep seeing people on Facebook gifting cash, trainers and other expensive items. Each to their own I suppose but it feels unnecessary to me.

caringcarer · 05/04/2026 11:14

My Dult DC to choose an EE each. DGC £10 each as they have won 10 EE in a draw so can't have more. Foster son bottle of Hugo Boss 'Boss man' after shave as he doesn't eat chocolate and he's a student so not much money.

edwinbear · 05/04/2026 11:41

14y & 16y old have a couple of medium eggs, a bag of mini eggs and £20 each. They’re far more interested in cash these days than chocolate!

It seems to be a real class divide in the UK at Easter. Middle and upper class families do the traditional eggs and more upper you are the more likely it will be boiled and planted rather than the chocolate variety. Lower class families have started to incorporate tacky ‘hauls’ into Easter and that has caught on with families from non-UK cultures who don’t really get Easter. It’s been fascinating to watch this happen over the last 10-15 years and shows how deeply class divides run.

Wow.
it’s very interesting how you talk about the middle and upper class families, vs the working class and non uk families. It’s worth noting lots of ‘non uk’ countries celebrate Easter if you didn’t know. They don’t need to be in the uk to ‘get it’
I guess your comment shows how deeply class prejudice runs

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 05/04/2026 11:43

An Easter egg, a craft/house building thing that has kept her quiet for hours and a cheap swimming costume.

Tumbleweed24 · 05/04/2026 11:44

1 Egg and a book

I find this comment so offensive, as someone who is white and I guess Christian, but not culturally English.

One Easter egg each and some small ones as part of an Easter egg hunt.

And 4 days in a European theme park.

@Overtheatlantic I don’t think that poster meant that only people from the UK celebrate Easter. She was referring to the people who aren’t from the UK , and are from a culture that doesn’t celebrate Easter.
