What have you got your kids for Easter?

Just that really. I’ve bought my DS (8) some eggs and a gingerbread decorate bunny kit, and some mini eggs cakes.

already seen posts on social media overloaded with clothes and toys and somewhat Christmas hauls.

feeling a bit deflated - should I have got more? For context we are away for the weekend at a caravan so there’s a fun Easter Sunday planned for him with onsite activities

What have you got your kids?

We always give ours something something for the garden so this year it’s a trampoline

whattheysay · 05/04/2026 02:15

An Easter egg each. They are grown up they still get an Easter egg.

TheFutureFreaksMeOut · 05/04/2026 02:15

One main egg, a lindt bunny and a few tiny eggs for an egg hunt around the house

An egg. And she has eggs from my mom and my brother, and no doubt some from her dad's side of the family.

Nothing against those who give actual gifts, but I think it's more common just to give eggs, so please don't feel you are letting your kids down.

Scooter, leggings, book, milkybar bunny and bubbles

want / wear / read / eat / fun 🐰

I have never heard of this tradition - are you from a particular culture which celebrates Easter with this selection of gifts for the different purposes you state? Just interested.

Our children are teens and young adults and we have bought then a few big eggs and then some other smaller bits like mini eggs, Lindt bunny, chocolate orange, pack of crème eggs etc.

We also get them a gift each so this year one has trainers and the other has a jacket and they’ve both got some cash.

Do you mind me asking if you always did gifts at Easter or only started this more recently?

It’s just that I’d never heard about gifts at Easter until a couple of years ago, so was wondering if it had recently developed or if I’d just missed it. Thanks.

Jambags · 05/04/2026 02:29

My 8mo was gifted an easter dog toy by my well meaning but significantly visually impaired dad (bless him) so we got her a small donkey toy. Not sure the significance of the Easter donkey but she seems to enjoy it.
SD and niece both got 1 Easter egg but we made sure they were a nice Easter egg.
I don't understand the holiday-ification of Easter. The level of home decor and Easter themed items seems to have exploded recently.

FantasyFoodhall · 05/04/2026 02:36

1 Easter egg. We will see family tomorrow for lunch and they might get another then. I think what you’ve got sounds very generous OP, I’m sure they’ll love it.

People buy trainers and give cash for Easter? Since when? Are you serious?

lemoncurdcupcake · 05/04/2026 02:44

We have fabric refillable eggs, so they have 5 of those to find as part of the hunt. Filled each one with 2-3 small foil covered eggs (mini egg size) and then a palm sized Easter egg each.

vintedandminted · 05/04/2026 02:47

2 x £1 Easter eggs.

Dliplop · 05/04/2026 02:50

One egg each!

my parents do an egg hunt for all their grandkids and include a toy or new outfit (my grandma used to get me a dress). This year I was cheeky and asked mum to get them umbrellas.

lemoncurdcupcake · 05/04/2026 03:00

@Inthenameoflove members of my family usually buy my children something. Every year I try to get the balance right between not being ungrateful for their generosity whilst also trying to say it's really not expected or necessary. I'm the youngest of 5 and I don't remember us or any of my now grown nieces and nephews getting anything other than chocolate...My children are much younger than their cousins, so can only assume it's quite a recent thing.

NewShoes · 05/04/2026 03:07

One Easter egg each. And I think we might make some hot cross buns as now I really want one…

We have always done chocolate, gifts and cash at Easter so 20 odd years now. Obviously when our children were younger, the gifts were toys and one year they had a climbing frame and sandpit for the garden. Then we have always put money in their savings for them.

Well I’m ‘people’ so I guess so. 🐰 We’ve always given chocolate, gifts and cash. Everyone does things differently.

Missj25 · 05/04/2026 03:22

I bought all my children an egg plus a box of ferero roche ( cause they both love them ) for the 2 youngest, 15 & 18 .
1 of my adult daughters is gone to London for weekend with her friend , other adult daughter gone to Thailand today with her bf for a month .
My 2 adult sons spending with their gf & family, they were with me for New Year’s Day .
So going to go out for our dinner , there’s just the 3 of us .
I’d much rather be cooking for everyone at home & have a full house .
Anyway , what can you do 🤷🏻‍♀️
Happy Easter Everyone 🐣

justjuggling · 05/04/2026 04:14

Mine are a teen amd a young adult. They have an egg and a small Lindt bunny from me plus I’ll make a large chocolate cake tomorrow to take with us when we visit my parents. Am looking forward to spending the afternoon together.

elliejjtiny · 05/04/2026 04:21

We have bought 1 egg each. They will get 1 from inlaws and my parents have paid for a day out in the Easter holidays. Younger ones will get an egg each from 2 aunties as well.

HooseMidden · 05/04/2026 04:29

An egg and a book each.

WanderlustMom · 05/04/2026 04:33

An Easter bunny balloon, some new pjs, an Easter activity book, a funko pop and a couple of Easter eggs :)

The4thSister · 05/04/2026 05:07

My child gets an egg from me that they get to pick out, then an egg and a chocolate bunny from the Easter Bunny.

I swore I would never do gifts, but they also have a new book each Easter. The first Easter they were old enough to remember, they came home from childcare with a white milkybar egg which after trying later found they couldn't tolerate so I swapped the white egg I bought with a book (didn't want to introduce milk choc and have another incident). The following year, they were inconsolable that the Easter Bunny hadn't left a book and could I send a letter explaining that they would prefer a book 😂 Definitely my child, BUT just need to teach them having chocolate to nibble whilst reading a book is bliss 🥰

rightawakeing · 05/04/2026 05:16

An egg each, some bubbles that I’ve had in the draw and forgotten about, an egg hunt and books that the already have but haven’t seen for a while. Even I think it’s too much to be honest

pepperminticecream · 05/04/2026 05:27

We do Easter baskets with small gifts and then an egg hunt in the garden. Their baskets have a book, flower seeds, small pinwheel for the garden, garden chalk and then one basket as a soap making kit and the other has finger paints. Our children are little but they like “working” in the garden next to us so I wanted to give them a few things to get them busy with us in the garden.

TheChosenTwo · 05/04/2026 05:28

An Easter egg each.
