What have you got your kids for Easter?

Just that really. I’ve bought my DS (8) some eggs and a gingerbread decorate bunny kit, and some mini eggs cakes.

already seen posts on social media overloaded with clothes and toys and somewhat Christmas hauls.

feeling a bit deflated - should I have got more? For context we are away for the weekend at a caravan so there’s a fun Easter Sunday planned for him with onsite activities

What have you got your kids?

We did an egg hunt with the mini chocolate eggs and clues Id written - I used 12 eggs so she’s got those, and it led to the prize which was a basket (one we already own) that had a large-ish egg, a smaller one, a chocolate bunny, a packet of mini chocolate bunnies and a small sweetie cone.

Quite a lot going by this thread but I always had more than one egg growing up in the 80s, and whilst I’ll let her go to town on the chocolate etc today the novelty will wear off pretty quickly - I can see DH and I will end up eating some and we’ll use the rest in baking.

A relative gave her some money for Easter so she chose a grow your own strawberries kit with that when we were out yesterday, and some of the foam soap she loves.

She’s had some activity books and craft stuff at the start of the holidays - a few quid from the works/ Asda just to help keep her entertained over the hols as we’ve not actually had that much planned in, not going away and weather has been a bit grim.

It seems to be a real class divide in the UK at Easter. Middle and upper class families do the traditional eggs and more upper you are the more likely it will be boiled and planted rather than the chocolate variety. Lower class families have started to incorporate tacky ‘hauls’ into Easter and that has caught on with families from non-UK cultures who don’t really get Easter. It’s been fascinating to watch this happen over the last 10-15 years and shows how deeply class divides run.

Mine got one normal egg each from us (mini egg and Reese’s egg). Their aunt got them a decorated cookie each and Lindt bunny small. Their uncle got them a maltesers egg. They’re thrilled!

Nothing. He did get given an egg at an event last week but he's nil by mouth and always will be so I will eat it at some point.

WineFox · 05/04/2026 07:38

An egg

MsSquiz · 05/04/2026 07:38

We have 2 girls (4, 6) and they have:
1 medium Easter egg
a chocolate bunny
a bag of smartie eggs
a pair of pyjamas (any excuse)
a pair of jazzy socks
a hair band
a new work book - 4 year has a book to help practise her number writing, 6 year old has a maths work book

and they have have a pack of ceramic eggs to decorate over the Easter hols and we’re going out for lunch today with family after DH takes them to the play park.

Girasoli · 05/04/2026 07:40

An Easter egg and another mini chocolate each.

Re toys: In Italy the Easter eggs have toys inside so that's what I was always used to. My DM has bought my DC a lindt bunny and a new football each because she couldn't any eggs she liked in Asda.

Listlostlast · 05/04/2026 07:42

4yo - a watermelon which he’s absolutely buzzing for 😂 and an egg, plus we’ve been baking a lot this week; biscuits cut into Easter shapes and decorated together, cakes, hot cross buns etc. He’s had a little pack of hot wheels f1 cars too but that was just a bonus, not specifically for Easter. Also some lightning McQueen trainers, but again, not specifically for Easter but he’s telling everyone they were 😂
1yo - I put smoothie melts (you know, those obscenely priced toddler snacks?) in reusable plastic eggs and job done! More so her brother felt she was included, really.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 05/04/2026 07:43

It can all get a bit silly I think. I work in a well known store & we have aisle after aisle of stuff in for weeks leading up to Easter - decorations, crockery, soft furnishings & of course chocolate eggs. People spend a fortune! DD17 requested an Easter Egg hunt so I bought crème eggs & caramel eggs for that. She originally said she didn’t want a big egg but changed her mind at the last minute. Most years she will have make up or something instead of chocolate. I’ve got some mini eggs as well.

OpalFruitsYay · 05/04/2026 07:43

One Easter egg each. And pannetone for pudding after family roast lunch.

Nomorevape · 05/04/2026 07:43

Egg and a tenner.
My parents and grandparents who were pretty frugal at Christmas and birthdays always gave us a gift at Easter along with an egg.
We had some epic bunny hunts too.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 05/04/2026 07:44

so we got her a small donkey toy. Not sure the significance of the Easter donkey but she seems to enjoy it.

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on a donkey. Knock yourself out and have a read of The Donkey by G K Chesterton, and consider that legend has it that all donkeys have a cross on their backs because of carrying Jesus.

I'm not at all religious, but a bit of general knowledge is always useful.

My kid had an egg.

Desert76 · 05/04/2026 07:45

Mine are teens. One has a Kinder chocolate hen, the other has a Lindt bunny.) DH and I spent hours devising fiendish cryptic clues for a hunt to find them.
They will do similar for us.

We’ll be with family for Easter lunch.
I’ve made some Easter cakes, and bought a posh box of chocolates for us to all share.

No clothes this year, but if they had needed something, I have often used Easter as an occasion for it in the past - eg new trainers, new pjs, lighter coats for spring. It’s always been pretty traditional to have new clothes at Easter.

WonderingWanda · 05/04/2026 07:46

Just an easter egg each and then smaller ones for a hunt. Step away from social media op, endless uneccessary consumption.

Itstime1 · 05/04/2026 07:48

We only have 1 DD and she’s fully into the Easter bunny this year so we’ve done an egg hunt with fillable eggs- they contain either small eggs or 10p or £1 for the arcade trip next week! (She loves going).

We got her magnetic tiles - frozen themed as we’re surprising her with a trip in few weeks and some more kinetic sand for tomorrow as she needs it.

She has far too many eggs (7 small) as I forgot how many I bought! 3x sets of grandparents with her as the only meant she got 3 Easter baskets full too.

Thankfully she doesn’t like chocolate much, just the idea of it so it means we have a stash in till the summer 😂

My DH is a traditional Irish Catholic so Easter is religious and big for us and we made a choice when she was born for an outdoor or small present to prevent the £40 in Easter eggs that we would spend!

Figgygal · 05/04/2026 07:50

An egg
Some smaller eggs
That's it

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 05/04/2026 07:50

One chocolate egg and she’s an adult.

Since before I was born (and I’m 56) my family have always hung small wooden eggs on twigs inside the house at Easter. I believe it’s a German tradition and my father was a PoW captured in 1944 so that part isn’t new.

CinnamonBuns67 · 05/04/2026 07:50

3 easter eggs and we will have a Sunday dinner later

Allswellthatendswelll · 05/04/2026 08:05

DS- one egg, Easter sticker book
DD (baby)- Easter/Spring PJs (in sale last year) and Easter story book

Easter egg hunt at church this morning.

AuntyBulgaria · 05/04/2026 08:06

Nothing. DS doesn't like chocolate. I didn't realise that people gave presents. Glad I missed that memo.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/04/2026 08:09

No kids but I got myself an expensive grown up egg for Easter and I had a hot cross bun for breakfast on Friday. I’m going to the farm up the road for half a dozen hens’ eggs later on.

I'm puzzled by this statement. Why would it be low class to gift gifts?

LastHotel · 05/04/2026 08:12

Nothing at all.

Villanellesproudmum · 05/04/2026 08:14

One egg and some biscuits to decorate

twohotwaterbottles · 05/04/2026 08:18

Ive got my teens a few Easter eggs but will not be handing them over until they have sorted their bedrooms. The eggs may still be here next Easter 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣
