What have you got your kids for Easter?

Just that really. I’ve bought my DS (8) some eggs and a gingerbread decorate bunny kit, and some mini eggs cakes.

already seen posts on social media overloaded with clothes and toys and somewhat Christmas hauls.

feeling a bit deflated - should I have got more? For context we are away for the weekend at a caravan so there’s a fun Easter Sunday planned for him with onsite activities

Just small chocolate eggs for a hunt. Some years I add in a couple of the Easter themed bath bombs from Primark, but didn’t get there this year.

when I was a kid quite a few people got new clothes for Easter, I think for them to wear to church. Other than that I don’t think I’ve heard of larger gifts for Easter

crazycatladie · 05/04/2026 08:20

An Easter egg and £10.

Callmebubblesdarlingeverybodydoes · 05/04/2026 08:21

I got a pack of 25 mini eggs so we can do an Easter egg hunt around the house. Grandparents got each of the kids 1 Easter egg.
Why are people buying their children multiple gifts as though it’s Christmas?

DD doesn’t like chocolate, so we have bought her some sweets instead. Also a small pack of pens which she has been collecting (Legami pens).

Not a specific Easter gift, but I’m not at work this week, so we have some nice trips out planned, which she is also looking forward to.

Daffodilsinthespring · 05/04/2026 08:26

Easter is for chocolate. Only exception is those who can’t have chocolate.

MightyGoldBear · 05/04/2026 08:27

We do a Easter egg hunt In the garden. Reusable eggs have clues inside to finally find one easter egg each.
We spend time as a family will have a roast and maybe do some baking.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 05/04/2026 08:29

When dd was younger I used to buy her a new clothes for spring at Easter, a new dress or similar.

Other than that she got an Easter egg and a chocolate bunny.

One Easter egg.

I didn’t even get that. The grandparents have furnished them with enough. And two of the four are dead.

It seems to be a real class divide in the UK at Easter. Middle and upper class families do the traditional eggs and more upper you are the more likely it will be boiled and planted rather than the chocolate variety. Lower class families have started to incorporate tacky ‘hauls’ into Easter and that has caught on with families from non-UK cultures who don’t really get Easter. It’s been fascinating to watch this happen over the last 10-15 years and shows how deeply class divides run.

This is a really strange post - you seem to see Easter as a primarily UK-based tradition, but it is celebrated across a whole range of countries.

Whobare you thinking of when you mention these "non-UK cultures"? And why do you feel people in other countries are being influenced by how people in the UK celebrate Easter? I honestly can't imagine they care.

(That's ignoring your class observations which don't ring true to me at all - I work with families in an area of extreme deprivation - families I am sure you would describe as "lower class" - and beleive me they would love to be in a position to buy their children a "tacky haul", or even just the new shoes they desperately need....

And when you are describing social injustice, it's strange that your immediate emotional reaction is to find it "fascinating".

An Easter Egg and some mini eggs for an Easter egg hunt.

Its Easter not Christmas or a birthday.

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 05/04/2026 08:36

Mine have both got a basket with some bits in, both have got a bunny plushy and some Easter fidget toys (they both love these), and my older two year old has got some extras like stickers, chocolate malteasers bunnies and an Easter house decorating kit. They’ve both also got eggs from family members although they won’t be much good to my 9 month old so they’ll be donated to me and my partner 😀

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 05/04/2026 08:39

My DD has got a Barbie and my DS has a couple of paw patrol toys. We don’t allow Easter eggs from family as they started buying chocolate for them when they were babies so we cut it off immediately.

this year I gave my 6yr old DD the option of a toy or a small egg just to see what she’d choose as she’s a complete sugar addict. I was very surprised when she chose the toy. My 4yr old son isn’t bothered about chocolate anyway so he’s always happier with a toy.

CampingInTheSnow · 05/04/2026 08:40

Nothing! The kids have had eggs and gifts from grandparents, great grandparents and their uncle over the last week. The eggs get saved and I've bought a pack of a few small eggs to add to make a small hunt around the house and garden later. The kids know it'll just be the chocolate they've already been given.

Grandparents go mad at Christmas and half the stuff ends up at the back of a cupboard and forgotten about, so I won't be adding to it at Easter too!

soundof · 05/04/2026 08:43

Only chocolate here. One medium Easter Egg each and a small one. Plus about 200 mini eggs which we use for an Easter Egg hunt in the house (between 5, plus I eat a load).

I did get them a small craft kit each as well, but more for the Easter holidays.

Cornflakes44 · 05/04/2026 08:43

Not the point of the post but I absolutely hate it when people post pictures of a big pile of presents to social media, for any occasion. It’s so tacky.

Crunchymum · 05/04/2026 08:53

I've got mine absolutely nothing.

We'll have a roast today (similar to Christmas in terms of fancy-ness) and there are chocolate melting pots and ice-cream for dessert for the kids.

My dad got them all an egg each and that's it.

Easter isn't a big thing to us, and no amount of insta posts / tat in supermarkets / keeping up with the Jones' will convince me otherwise.

Kids are teen, pre-teen and tween so it's unlikely to change for us now.

Same for Halloween. We watch a film / have some popcorn - job done.

Love a bit of Christmas and we celebrate Birthdays etc but we just aren't extravagant about it.

Edited to add I've bought a load of craft stuff for them all (not Easter related) and youngest has a new geometric sticker book which is keeping her busy. I'm not against fun activities, but we just don't "do" the big days like other people seem to.

toddlertoenail · 05/04/2026 09:14

@Ilovelurcherschurch of sco but it’s what my DM always got me for Easter so carrying it on for our DD 💖 Happy Easter 🐣

Kwamitiki · 05/04/2026 09:14

Dd6 got a small Freddo egg, and then the contents of the Smarties Easter egg Hunt kit (8 small eggs) plus a chick squishmallow. My parents sent her £10, and our neighbour got her a small egg too.

DH says it is far too much and has gone off in a grump after shouting at me.

Givemeausernamepls · 05/04/2026 09:16

An Easter egg (cost £2.50) and £20

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/04/2026 09:21

DD’s are on a skiing school trip. I smuggled a couple of small eggs in their bags. 🐰🥚

mondaytosunday · 05/04/2026 09:23

My kids when younger would have an Easter egg hunt with little eggs and one bigger one. As they got older it was a couple of the bigger ones (like a Kit Kat egg etc) and I’d get myself one too!

FranksInvisibleLlama · 05/04/2026 09:25

Teen and pre-teen, One got a book and one a craft thing, they each got a small Lindt rabbit and I got a pack of eggs to be hidden by the Easter bunny (I was hoping they would be too old to want to bother with an egg hunt but no). I started off getting a small gift, usually a book or craft thing, when they were little because relatives gave them lots of chocolate and they didn’t need any more. DH started the egg hunt tradition when DC1 was about 3.

hcee19 · 05/04/2026 10:15

My ds is 28yrs of age, twins 21 yrs old. I still buy them on egg, every year l say l am not going to do it again, & l do. They would tell me when they were at school, friends got presents like video games, clothes, you name it...Daft, no need, easter too commercialised .
