Looking for some inspiration that isn’t lamb. Don’t fancy a roast but want something a bit special.

Shoulder of lamb, roast potatoes, peas and carrots. Tiramisu for after. All these other lamb recipes sound delicious though.

Spring is lovely when you see all the baby lambs in the field jumping around and bleating…. and then along comes Easter 😢

They’re not slaughtered at that age, they’re about a year when they are. I used to think they killed baby lambs too 😢

Dressinggownlife · 04/04/2026 19:21

Gammon roast, roast pots, cauliflower cheese, mac n cheese and roast parsnips
passion fruit cheesecake for desert

That makes no sense 🤣 swap the word lamb for puppy and read that back. You make it sound mandatory.

Well we don't eat dogs in the UK.

Puppies are bred for people to have as pets.

Lambs are bred by farmers to sell for meat. Did you think they just happened to be born?

Obviously eating lamb is not mandatory and I agree it seems harsh (but yes it's not the lambs that have just been born that we are eating). Especially to my DD who is veggie.

imp0ster · 04/04/2026 19:23

We’re doing a treacle and clementine ham with roasties, homemade pesto pasta, chilli and mint cous cous, pork pies, french stick, cheese board, olives, salads. I honestly cannot wait.

zantez · 04/04/2026 19:29

Salmon steaks with lemon butter, mash, cauli cheese, roasted carrotts and broccoli. That's it. Yikes, we don't like roast spuds 😳

robinsnest1967 · 04/04/2026 19:31

I live alone and am having beans on toast :(

afaloren · 04/04/2026 19:35

Stuffed shells, garlic bread and salad. MIL is bringing her famous Chocolate dessert.

JumpinJehoshaphat · 04/04/2026 19:35

Lamb here. Slow cooked. My husband and kids wouldn’t countenance anything else. I don’t like lamb, so will skip that bit. He’s doing it with potatoes dauphinoise, fine beans, tender stem and leek sauce. I have just made brownies containing mini eggs and there will be a stupendous cheese board.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 04/04/2026 19:36

We're counting on the sun making an appearance and having a BBQ. I've got some racks of baby pork ribs which I'll marinade with hoisin and 5 spice, lamb koftas, and homemade tabbouleh and coleslaw. Shall probs make some dips and serve with crudités.

Gentlydoesit2 · 04/04/2026 19:43

Might have a cheese salad wrap 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just Googled it, it's cucumber and onion mixed with vinegar sometimes eaten with Yorkshire pudding.😀 Who knew? There's also a Durham salad as well.

well you learn something new everyday- thank you!

Anjo2011 · 04/04/2026 20:36

Roast chicken, all the trimmings and pigs in blankets by request of my dds. Apple crumble for pudding. Also bought a chocolate roulade in M&S that looks like a yule log but with mini eggs on it.

Make something special for yourself. Don't have the attitude that because you're on your own you're not worth cooking for. I live alone and cook properly for myself. I won't be on my own tomorrow but once I spent Christmas alone and did the full works.

Yes I also thought this.

What do you love to eat? Make that. There's still time to nip to Tesco if there's anything you need. I would have a lovely Thai-style stir fry (which no one else in my house likes).

Buy a bar of your fave chocolate or a pair of Gü desserts or whatever you really like.

Octaviathethird · 04/04/2026 20:50

We are having soup and garlic bread for lunch, and probably large quantities of chocolate!

Taytocrisps · 04/04/2026 20:52

Sorry, it's leg of lamb here, with roasties, carrots and asparagus with brie and breadcrumbs. And gravy on the side (not a lover of mint sauce).

maddiemookins16mum · 04/04/2026 21:01

Slow roasted Greek lamb, lemon potatoes and Greek Salad.

ChikinLikin · 04/04/2026 21:03

I've got vegetarians coming so I've made a posh mushroom lasagne with three kinds of shrooms in. Never made it before. Was a faff so I hope it"s good. Might do a trifle too ... to carry on the layering theme.

EverardDeTroyes · 04/04/2026 21:06

Sorry, lamb here too. It's been in the freezer since I bought it on special offer at Christmas so it needs eating now. Roast potatoes, carrots, peas, cauliflower and Redcurrant jelly. Followed by lemon meringue pie. We rarely have lamb or puddings nowadays so it is a rare treat.

Ilovelurchers · 04/04/2026 21:16

Roast chicken
Mini jackets
Yorkshires (ready made, I've lost the ability somehow)
Pigs in blankets
Carrots, shallots and thyme (new recipe I am excited about)
Broccoli with parmesan
Creamed spinach
Peas and sweetcorn
Gravy
Cranberry sauce.

Dessert is:
Banana, caramel and raisin cakey type thing I am inventing
Custard from a box!

It will be a refreshing (to me) mix of made from scratch and ready made, as I have finally given myself permission to take the easy route occasionally.....

pteromum · 04/04/2026 21:17

I think, Gammon, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and peas.

We love lamb, but never ever eat it until summer BBQ and autumn winter dishes.

No lamb at lambing time 🫣

That said if it’s a bad day with this storm it might be beans on toast on the camping stove.

Fraughtmum · 04/04/2026 21:26

Nothing. Going out about 4.

NippyNinjaCrab · 04/04/2026 21:35

mynameiscalypso · 04/04/2026 14:04

Sorry - lamb here! A slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with a feta and walnut crust (a BBC Good Food recipe). Served with salad, hummus, tzatziki and flatbreads.

Ohhhhh I like the sound of this thank you x

SugarC · 04/04/2026 22:45

I'm thinking about making myself butternut and chickpea curry with rice or having a veggie burger with homemade wedges and coleslaw. Can't decide. I'm new to being a vegetarian (seems to be kinder on my digestive system) and the only one in the house.
My DH is the chef so i'm trying to learn.
