Looking for some inspiration that isn’t lamb. Don’t fancy a roast but want something a bit special.

Well we’re having lamb but roast gammon, Jamie Oliver special chicken with prosciutto ham, lemon, butter, fresh thyme, celeriac is lovely.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/04/2026 17:40

Veggies are dauphinois potatoes, red cabbage, broccoli, carrots. Dessert is lemon cheesecake. That’s with the lamb. The chicken it’s all in one, you add potatoes and it goes in one roasting tin.

For the family - roast beef, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots, peas, broccoli, swede, savoy cabbage, parsnips and gravy.

For me (vegan) - Spinach and sweet potato rosti (from Aldi), roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots, peas, broccoli, swede, savoy cabbage, parsnips and veggie gravy.

Meant to be roast chicken with roast potatoes, selection of veg and a vegetarian loaf. But DH decided to buy gammon instead of chicken and I'm now looking at a few recipes for a glaze. Probably not necessary but I've never cooked gammon before!

Have a look at Marcus Wareing’s Marmalade and Earl Grey Tea Glazed Ham recipe.

PM me if you like.

Side of salmon roasted with butter and lemon, roasted asparagus in pancetta, purple sprouting broccoli, minted new potatoes and hollandaise sauce.
Rhubarb crumble made with first of the home grown rhubarb, vanilla custard.
All very simple and easy.

Homemade Steak Pie, carrot and Swede mash, brocolli and roast potatoes. Followed by an alcohol free Tiramisu 😊

Delatron · 04/04/2026 18:36

Harrisa shoulder of lamb - slow cooked on the BBQ hopefully. With hassle back potatoes, flatbreads, tzatziki, purple sprouted broccoli, asparagus and a halloumi pomegranate salad.

@Allseeingallknowing @mrswhiplington my Mam's and female rellies version was chopped up lettuce, scallion, mint, sugar, vinegar but you can add diced toms and cucumber as well. Delicious with home made Yorkshire pud and lamb

That sounds delicious! I honestly had never heard of it before.

Middle Eastern lamb with jewelled rice, carrots with feta and yogurt dip and peas / mushroom pie for the veggies followed by a huge chocolate cake covered in a ridiculous amount of easter eggs 🐣🐰🐇🐑🥕🌷

clary · 04/04/2026 18:44

These ideas sound great! Loving jewelled rice :)

I am doing roast dinner sorry with a giant leg of lamb and an organic chicken that was handily marked down in Sainsbo's.

Roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings (sorry to all purists), carrots (many) broccoli, roast parsnips and peas maybe. If I remember.

DD is having veggie wellington from Morrisons.

Pudding is Nigella's Easter nest cake, and also her chocohotopots (basically hot molten brownie in a ramekin) plus a platter of fresh fruit. Prepped everything today except the fruit and the chocohotopots.

ExOptimist · 04/04/2026 18:54

15 of us including 4 vegans.
We're all having vegan lasagne and various salads for main.
I'm bringing honey and mustard cocktail sausages as a canape, someone's bringing a vegan thing.
For pudding someone's bringing something vegan, I've just made non-vegan simnel cake, orange and passionfruit tart and chocolate roulade.

Thistooshallpsss · 04/04/2026 19:08

Roast gammon - trying out a Mary berry recipe with a double mustard sauce with roasties cauliflower cheese sadly bought red cabbage as Sainsbury had sold out maybe roast carrots and roast beets if I can be bothered to peel them. Pudding is always a rhubarb and lemon jelly clotted cream and Easter biscuits bought from our local bakery. Also bought a simnel cake from Morrisons because I like it! Five of us.

shellyleppard · 04/04/2026 19:10

Garlic and herb roast chicken, roast potatoes, cauliflower, carrots and braised red cabbage
Plus Yorkshire puddings. Pudding is a Jaffa dome cake leftover from Christmas 🎄 🤣

Pallisers · 04/04/2026 19:12

Roast tenderloin of beef with three sauces (warm blue cheese sauce, rocket and horseradish sauce, and herb and parmesan sauce)
Roast potatoes
mix of spring veg (broccolini, asparagus, peas, green beans)

Also pollo con arroz cuban style (sort of ) for my SIL and one of my daughters - although everyone will try some.

BIL is bringing chocolate tart, cheesecake and strawberry cake.

Spring is lovely when you see all the baby lambs in the field jumping around and bleating…. and then along comes Easter 😢

The lambs are cute but the only reason they exist ie what they are bred for) is to be eaten. If no one ate roast lamb (which is a reasonable idea, I don't dispute, tho I am not vegetarian) there would be no lambs, or a lot fewer.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 04/04/2026 19:16

That makes no sense 🤣 swap the word lamb for puppy and read that back. You make it sound mandatory.
