The King of Crazytown Can't Control The Chaos - Trump Thread #159

“Whether you’re a military analyst or a political analyst, whether you’re in the Democratic or Republican party, there’s a reality here. Donald Trump has met the moment of truth. The kind of fictional life that he’s led and evoked over the last four or five decades has now been unmasked as a deadly drama. It’s going to cost the lives of so many people. It’s going to devastate the US economy and the regional economy. It’s going to set back America and its standing in the world. It’s a horrific moment.”
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota.

JFC - is it just words to get his own way any more - can he back down from that?

Is he talking nuclear or is it possible to destroy all the infrastructure to this point with non nuclear?

I’m not sure what the regime change is either.

I am running out of words now.

logicisall · 07/04/2026 13:56

I'm 100% behind cancelling King Charles' visit. The most diehard anti monarchist wouldn't wish that for him.

zantez · 07/04/2026 13:57

Whatever your views on the monarchy or the Government, you'd have to feel for the K+Q right now. I think a fake illness could and should happen, no need for us, our Government or HOS to legitimise this madman with empty gestures. For what end?

logicisall · 07/04/2026 13:58

IIRC. Regime change, according to what Trump said earlier, is that he took out/killed the then leader, so never mind that he was replaced, the regime changed. Duh!

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/04/2026 14:00

His supporters will claim/are claiming that it's all a negotiation tactic, the Art of The Deal, if you will. I suspect the Iranian Government view is 'Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough'.

I see he’s saying he’s a great president because they only try to assassinate the great ones like Lincoln and Kennedy. They don’t bother trying to kill the ‘ inconsequential ones’ - he’s fucking nuts

Ah yes. That great president William McKinley: how much does Trump remember about him, I wonder. Likewise James A. Garfield. You're right: Trump is nuts.

As previously confessed, I have zero military nous. But based on what I've learned from the esteemed posters on this thread is that Iran is geographically huge, has a population of approx 93 million, US ultimately has a limit on the missiles/fire power available and currently has no troops/tanks on the ground so I presume the only end of civilisation he can offer is nuclear.

His 'negotiating skill' - bully and threaten. What he's done all his life.

How is the US media spinning these words?

Is there anything on the aircraft fan feeds?

I can't get them, but they should be talking about bomber movements. refuellers and the like.

A whole civilisation will die tonight sounds like the kind of saying you'd hear a Greek oracle say to a foolish king.

Perfectly put.

I thought similar, though less elegantly.

RedTagAlan · 07/04/2026 14:16

No bingo for this one sorry. So how about a caption thing ? I just grabbed the attached photo. It's from the last hour or so apparently.

I apologise if this has been discussed many times before. The army oath swears to uphold the Constitution and obey the orders of the President. What's the legal situation if the armed forces feel that the orders of the President go against the Constitution?

The Uniformed Code of Military Justice permits personnel to disobey an 'unlawful' order. One that violates the Constitution, US law, or international law. That last is what covers war crimes.

The UCMJ is vague on just what would constitute an illegal order. Some things are obviously illegal such as firing on unarmed and innocent civilians (as happened in My Lai). But other orders may not be quite so clear and be open to interpretation. For example (and purely theoretically), does that power plant actually power facilities being used to attack US & allied forces or does it simply power those small towns in the area? Obviously if the former it wouldn't be a war crime to destroy it, in the latter it would. And a serviceperson will only be able to decide based on what they're told. And under threat of court martial if they get it wrong.

The problem lies with the fact that a serviceperson has to make a judgement for themselves as to whether or not an order they're given is illegal. The final decision as to whether it actually was or was not illegal is only made AFTER the order is either followed or refused. So they're kind of between the devil and the deep blue sea. Refuse and definitely face court martial and possible exoneration, or comply and possibly face court martial and criminal charges. Add to that the fact that such orders are often given in the 'heat of battle' and under the watchful gaze of other personnel.

Do I think the commanding generals will refuse to obey Trump's orders? Hell no, he's already stacked that deck. Do I think the command officers responsible for issuing those orders to their troops will refuse to give those orders? No, they won't want to risk their careers. And do I think that the poor personnel that actually have to carry out those orders will refuse to do so? No, because they're afraid of the consequences if they're wrong.

All we can do is pray that today is really a TACO Tuesday.
