Ideas for 40th birthday Mallorca trip gift bags on a budget

Looking for some inspiration around what to include in party/gift bags for a 40th birthday trip to Mallorca in September. There are 9 of us girls going but we range in age from 33 to 78 - I have a budget of maybe £20-£30 each but would like to start buying a little something each month so that I don't need to pay for it all at once. I was thinking things like:

  • Mini-hangover kit (although to be fair we are split between big drinkers and not)
  • Personalised bracelet/keyring
  • Small bottle of prosecco or can of cocktail (although our flight is at 6am and we are only 15 mins from the airport)
  • Printed itinerary

They all seem a little bit boring to me though so would welcome other suggestions! I've no qualms about shopping on Shein/Temu, etc. as want to keep it cheap. We already have sashes and not interested in getting t-shirts, etc. as it's not really the done thing in the resort we are in (planning to wear the sashes when we go to the nearest 'party' town)

Don't overlook the googly-eyed ravens...

Where do I find these Googly Eyed Ravens then ......

I'd like to say I'm askin' for a friend but that's a lie Grin

Search is taking me to Game of Thrones (not going there . )

Yes why not fill the planet with another bin bag full of useless tat. I'm not trying to be a killjoy, honestly - I think you should go and have a great time but no adults need a party bag. Spend the money on something worthwhile.

Given that some of the group are on a budget, I thought the idea of taking everyone for a lovely coffee oreal away from the hotel was a really nice idea. I would definitely appreciate that thoughtfulness more than a few bits and bobs. I hope you have a lovely time OP

I've never heard of trip gift bags, just don't bother with it at all

Savonne · 28/03/2026 06:07

.. but if someone got me a fun sponge I'd be delighted.

Respectfully how much of the tat will be used once and then binned. Is there no regard for the environmental impact of a load of cheap stuff from China???? Do you need a party bag - you’re adults?

OMG this. Just get one item if necessary. Not loads of crap. I for one would not be grateful for more crap to fill the house up with

I got a bag of tat at Christmas and it went straight in the bin . Cheap and nasty . Far better a first night cocktail and a last night cheers 🥂

Clearly people don't read the thread at all any more do they, just parrot the same response as a load of other people and don't actually check any updates...

Thank you for confirming that MN is indeed full of fun sponges 😂

Well, I don’t drink due to medical issues so I wouldn’t want a hangover kit or a cocktail anyway, and definitely wouldn’t want a cheap personalised bracelet. No one is going to care for a party bag, just go and have fun!

You sound very spikey . Most people don’t have time to read whole threads , just answer the initial post , not unusual at all .

@hattie43 it's not hard to filter by OPs posts and see I've already decided what I'm going to do and don't need any further responses

@somanychristmaslights well politely, you're not coming are you? Don't you think I know my friends and family fairly well if they're part of a small group going on holiday with me?

Well you clearly don’t as you were asking for ideas 🤣

Yes, ideas for people who would like that sort of thing - I'm hardly going to give cocktails or a hangover kit to someone who is teetotal am I (none of them are by the way)

If they are pre currently or post menopausal the only useful thing I could think of is a fan.

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 28/03/2026 09:44

A beach bag for each person, with a mini bottle of sunscreen, a high factor lip balm, something I always forget to pack and end up with sun sores all over my lips, mozzie repellent and a hand sanitizer inside it. Even if you’re not planning on going to the beach it could still be used by the pool. You could do them all the same colour or each persons favourite colour

I would’ve got very frustrated by this thread too OP. People still going out of their way to pile on just to let you know, even though you haven’t asked whether or not to do it, that this is a terrible idea.

I’ve been on lots of these sorts of weekends and we’ve always had some sort of goody bag and they’ve been appreciated. Even when my best friend took me to a hotel for my birthday just the two of us she’d got me a bag with magazines, face masks, my fave chocs, a Diet Coke and some new pjs. If she’d got me a sprite would’ve I have said god I love Diet Coke, what did you get me that for, i already have a favourite soft drink. No I would not because it’s the thought that counts!!! Maybe going on one of these weekends away with their friends would do some of these posters good!
