Ideas for 40th birthday Mallorca trip gift bags on a budget

Looking for some inspiration around what to include in party/gift bags for a 40th birthday trip to Mallorca in September. There are 9 of us girls going but we range in age from 33 to 78 - I have a budget of maybe £20-£30 each but would like to start buying a little something each month so that I don't need to pay for it all at once. I was thinking things like:

  • Mini-hangover kit (although to be fair we are split between big drinkers and not)
  • Personalised bracelet/keyring
  • Small bottle of prosecco or can of cocktail (although our flight is at 6am and we are only 15 mins from the airport)
  • Printed itinerary

They all seem a little bit boring to me though so would welcome other suggestions! I've no qualms about shopping on Shein/Temu, etc. as want to keep it cheap. We already have sashes and not interested in getting t-shirts, etc. as it's not really the done thing in the resort we are in (planning to wear the sashes when we go to the nearest 'party' town)

I’m doing similar for a 50th, but in the uk. I got loads from Shein/temu. Personalised stuff are really good off there.

I’ve posted my list, but it’s under review.

Respectfully how much of the tat will be used once and then binned. Is there no regard for the environmental impact of a load of cheap stuff from China???? Do you need a party bag - you’re adults?

Could you try and do it with fun versions of things that might be useful? Like mini toiletries, snacks etc?

SpringHasSprungTheGrassIsRiz · 26/03/2026 06:33

Agree with @Scoooobydooo . Why not pay for a couple of welcome cocktails on the first evening or something? More use than plastic tat that will be shipped half way around the world and end up in landfill.

MidnightPatrol · 26/03/2026 06:38

I agree re usefulness of this - and, if people are limited on luggage, is being given a load of stuff the my don’t want to them have to carry quite annoying?

Get some personalised sunglasses done for everyone or something instead. Just one item!

Party bags for grown ups is a thing? I’d want some quality snacks in it if I was going to have one, not a load of plastic tat.
Personally I’d rather not have one. You’re grown women not kids.

Thank you for confirming that MN is indeed full of fun sponges 😂

I’d rather have a cocktail as PP mentioned.
How about making ‘vouchers’ they can be made beautifully but aren’t a load of plastic shit that no one actually wants?

BitOutOfPractice · 26/03/2026 07:35

I don’t want tat either I’m afraid. How about a mini spa sort of thing for when you are there like a face / hand / foot mask, a lovely mini hand cream, hair treatment, ginger shot drink (>100ml) and a hairband to hold hair back.

I disagree. Just get things that can be consumed rather than will go into landfill.

I wouldn't thank you for sunglasses though as I wear prescription ones, or bracelets as I never wear them.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/03/2026 07:36

Happy being a fun sponge. My friends would prefer a good book and pen but we'd be perfectly happy with an evening at a nice restaurant at home.

Myfridgeiscool · 26/03/2026 07:37

Ask the people going what they want in their party bag.
None of us on here seem to want one, they might be the same. I’d prefer a cocktail and a nice photo of us all drinking it rather than a bit of temu plastic.

Where I live we don’t even do these kind of party bags for kids anymore- because everyone has woken up to the environmental impact. At ages ranging from 33-78 I would hope that some of the group would think like this too. I mean, I’m not even a climate change fanatic but I believe in preserving this beautiful world for my children.

Please consider other options - maybe personalized cupcakes? Edible treats - I would hate someone to add to my luggage on a weekend trip.

pouletvous · 26/03/2026 07:38

what a silly idea OP. Wasteful

CallingOnTheMegaphone · 26/03/2026 07:39

Nobody needs a heap of tat to cart on holiday with them.

MittensTheKittens · 26/03/2026 07:39

Pay for a lunch/dinner for everyone (£30 a head would be perfect!)
I'd appreciate that much than anything else.

pouletvous · 26/03/2026 07:40

You cant take your own booze on a plane
wtf is a hangover kit? Surely coffee and breakfast is what people want

keyring? That’s going staight in the bin

heres an idea! Shout the first round in the pub or
htoel bar. That’s a grown up way to thank everyone

Nevermind17 · 26/03/2026 07:41

In 50 odd years I have never heard of party bags for adults. I thought they stopped around the age of 10?

ChocolateMunchBunch · 26/03/2026 07:42

How about something like a sarong? I went to a retreat years ago in Bali and we all were asked for our favorite color as part of the preparation documentation. On arrival there were a few welcome gifts including e sarong in our color. It was a lovely thought and also useful!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/03/2026 07:42

Light Up Dummies WTA
I've seen teenagers walking about with a dummy in their mouth Hmm but on an actual adult .......

A couple of beauty items that will get used or some edibles ( I don't drink so cocktails not for me but I'd go for a mocktail )

I;m joining the FunSpongeCamp here

EasterlyDirection · 26/03/2026 07:43

I wouldn't want them either, I thought they were only for young children. Agree with standing everyone a lunch or a couple of
rounds of cocktails, that's much more fun and less wasteful.

pouletvous · 26/03/2026 07:43

£30 x 9 =£270.00 £270

it will look good on Insta though 🤣

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/03/2026 07:45

Lots of the goody bag contents that people get on flights ( 1st/Business) end up on eBay , anyone looking for Elemis or Elasticiser are adviced to go there for samples

LittleBearPad · 26/03/2026 07:46

Why waste your money on a load of plastic tat that will get binned. Who needs a key ring and as for the light up plastic dummy suggestion!

Buy some drinks and food when you get there for sharing.
