Ideas for 40th birthday Mallorca trip gift bags on a budget

Looking for some inspiration around what to include in party/gift bags for a 40th birthday trip to Mallorca in September. There are 9 of us girls going but we range in age from 33 to 78 - I have a budget of maybe £20-£30 each but would like to start buying a little something each month so that I don't need to pay for it all at once. I was thinking things like:

  • Mini-hangover kit (although to be fair we are split between big drinkers and not)
  • Personalised bracelet/keyring
  • Small bottle of prosecco or can of cocktail (although our flight is at 6am and we are only 15 mins from the airport)
  • Printed itinerary

They all seem a little bit boring to me though so would welcome other suggestions! I've no qualms about shopping on Shein/Temu, etc. as want to keep it cheap. We already have sashes and not interested in getting t-shirts, etc. as it's not really the done thing in the resort we are in (planning to wear the sashes when we go to the nearest 'party' town)

I would think of:

Face packs to rehydrate/ relax on the plane
Sleep eye masks (easy to buy on Temu)
Ear plugs
Lip balms
Hand sanitiser
Pack of tissues/wet wipes
Small item of jewellery that you can all match, or in birth stone colours/initials.
Rehydration sachets and paracetamol
Scrunchies
Sweets or chocolate

Out of that list I would only appreciate the tissues, wet wipes and chocolate.

I think you would have to know your friends very well to buy from that list to know that they will be appreciated.

I just wouldn’t like being given a bunch of plastic tat. But that’s just me.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 26/03/2026 12:35

Oh, forgot to mention- some snuggly socks, I'm always forgetting to bring a pair on holiday and hate having to walk barefoot on the freezing cold hotel floors or scratchy carpets.

Because some people are on a budget we probably won't be eating/drinking outside of the hotel - some of us may go to a beach club but that won't include everyone

You could take them for a coffee or something, Mallorca is beautiful it seems such a waste to sit at the hotel.

I'm leaning towards something like this after reading the replies here. The type of trip we are going on is absolutely not something I would normally book but it's what the majority of others wanted/could afford (their last trip was Benidorm). I go to Mallorca every year and am going in June regardless but where we stay is around 30 euros per cocktail hence why I won't be taking everyone else there!

@ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget oh fair enough! Have a fab time and I think it’s a very lovely gesture.

ChapmanFarm · 26/03/2026 13:28

If you want the experience of giving them the gift bag you could still do that but with a voucher (even a made up one) for whatever you decide to do and just a few boiled sweets, lib balm or whatever that is low cost.

If you do decide you want to buy more, the eye masks with a built in speaker for listening to audio books are great. Especially if sharing rooms and wanting to nod off without hearing someone snoring!

Lomonald · 26/03/2026 13:34

I saw pp suggest tote bags could you do something with that? Champagnes 40th or Mallorca 26,

julieh1968 · 26/03/2026 13:53

how about personalised wine glass charm - they can be got cheaply. Fun sunglasses temu/shein/primark. Rehydrating face mask, the cooling things for under eyes, blister plasters,
I’d love a party bag for this sort of trip x

I think the airport lounge or cover the cost of an outing (I assume you aren't going to stay in the hotel the entire time) are the best ideas if its AI and a meal out won't work. I wouldn't really want toiletries and paracetamol, I take my own and have sensitive skin.

I did look but unfortunately the airport lounge doesn't allow bookings for more than groups of 6 and warns against making more than one booking per group. It would be a bit pointless anyway as there are only 1-2 flights per day from the airport so feels quite exclusive anyway....

Mini perfume? Buy packs of the Next minis or Marks etc

No. They would get used once then thrown away.

@ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget you sound lovely. I know a lot of posts are rather negative (including me, I must admit), but it probably reflects that most people don't want use once throw away items, and knowing that will help you make a decision, and hopefully one that everyone will enjoy.

Lordofmyflies · 26/03/2026 15:02

I think I'd rather have the money go towards a couple of glasses of fizz one night and then maybe a lovely photo of the group in a quirky little photo frame when I got back?

VividDeer · 26/03/2026 15:08

Spend the money on a meal / drink

soontobeamama · 26/03/2026 15:09

Ignore all the fun sponges - if this is something that you want to do and you feel the group will appreciate you doing it, carry on!

An itinerary is a great idea, as it means everyone knows what is planned for the trip and you can also personalise it.

Snacks for the flight would be good.
A fan if you’re going somewhere hot.
How about beach towels? You would need to give them in advance though so they could be packed.

Instead of lots of random things that may not suit all ages / tastes, you have a decent budget - how about organising arrival drinks or cocktails at the hotel, or putting the money towards an activity once you are there? Your £25-£30 each could probably cover a bus tour / boat trip etc?

That might be better received than lots of cheap things and if the resort is not suitable for T-shirts, bracelets, shot glasses etc might not be appropriate either and not everyone would use them or wear them.

RampantIvy · 26/03/2026 15:14

😂@soontobeamama
The irony is that you are repeating what the "fun sponges" are suggesting. No to tat and yes to drinks.

Light Up Dummies WTA
I've seen teenagers walking about with a dummy in their mouth Hmm but on an actual adult .......

A couple of beauty items that will get used or some edibles ( I don't drink so cocktails not for me but I'd go for a mocktail )

I;m joining the FunSpongeCamp here

I'm guessing this is to avoid teeth-grinding if they drop an E? That's why ravers wore them in the 90s, anyway...

People have enough plastic tat in their lives.

I would keep a tote bag and use it probably put it in a handbag.

A kind friend arranged some sunglasses for my 40th that everyone wore, I think you can get them from Etsy. They were heart shaped and said I’m 40 bitches. (I’m sure MN will definitely not approve!) They made for some cool photos too and it wasn’t anything over the top that people had to wear and one size fits all!

I’d go for a face mask or those under eye patches, mini suncream, mini face spray, maybe a scrunchie? Another big birthday weekend I went on they put a mini bottle of molton brown in each bag which was appreciated.

sittingonabeach · 26/03/2026 15:26

Give them a contribution to the cost of the trip

millit · 26/03/2026 15:26

And definitely yes to the printed itinerary! It’s nice to look at on the plane and for everyone to get excited

What about those who need prescripion sunglasses?

millit · 26/03/2026 15:31

@RampantIvythey were just for fun, obviously people didn’t go around the whole weekend wearing sunglasses that said I’m 40 bitches 😂
